So looking to include some forgeworld in my army, and in games if it is sanctioned for play, and not a experimental unit you can play it right? But in this http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/v/vehicle6thupdates.pdf its gives a bunch for sixth edition but for some units within this list it says they are experimental. I am so confused

Same list, different army

Bottom line is ask your opponent if he wants to play with Forge World units. That way there is no issues.

DR has it right, just ask ahead of time what people would be ok with and for tournaments you would need to talk to the TO.

Experimental rules generally mean they are still being worked on and haven't appeared in an Imperial Armor book, yet.

RAW, yes. FW units (at least the non-Apocalypse ones) are part of the game just like any other unit GW publishes.

However, you should be aware that some people have a house rule that FW rules are not allowed. Unless you're going to hold a gun to their head and demand that they play against you and your FW stuff (or, more reasonably, are willing to refuse to play against anyone who wants that house rule) you might want to check that you aren't going to be in that situation before you invest a lot of money in FW models.

Experimental rules are just rules that haven't yet been published in a book. Sometimes models are released before there's a book that could include the rules for them, so rather than force everyone to wait indefinitely to get the rules they'll put up a pdf download of experimental rules. They're usually balanced and won't cause any problems in normal games (though, unlike final rules, they are not officially part of standard 40k), but they may change when final rules are published. Opinions on them vary: most people will happily play against experimental rules as long as they don't seem too unbalanced, but some people prefer to limit things to the rules which have been officially published in their final form.

The 6th edition update covers all FW vehicles, both experimental and final, because they all need HPs and other 6th edition rule changes. However, that pdf is just an update like GW's online FAQs, so you'll need to get the actual rules for the unit to find out whether it's standard 40k/experimental/Apocalypse-only/etc.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

You are allowed to use any forge world unit in regular games of 40k that doesn't have an Experimental stamp on it OR one that is not designed for regular play(Super Heavy vehicles and Gargantuan creatures)

However, your opponent always has the veto power to not play you for every reason. Forge World tends to elicit an illogical reaction from some people. A reaction born out of fear of the unknown.

This is no different to someone refusing to play someone that uses Vendettas, painted his army pink, being a duche, or for being a GUO.

As such, you may wish to inform your opponent you will be using some Forge World stuff.

Best to make sure there are people in your area that will play games using Forge World if you intend to use it.

illogical isn't really a fair assessment.

In order to know the FW rules you need to buy how many books? It's a huge library of unknowns. And in order to understand the FW logic you have to really get into FW. It's not like normal GW stuff which is just "play with this army? Then get the codex and the BRB. Done."

So for a lot of us, FW is a huge unknown, so we ignore it as the BRB is giving us enough of a headache.
And it's not really an even playing field if one person gets inot FW stuff and gets it, while the rest only play GW.

Fear of the unknown? Absolutely. My group enjoys even games.
Illogical? No. Not at all.

and OP: the FW question is NEVER a quick question It always dissolves into a huge thread of pro-FW and anti-FW, and no one budging an nch from their stance.
Mine is that FW is an addon to the original game, and needs to be agreed on before the game.

Its no different than a new codex coming out really.

And IA books have stuff for multiple armies and are nice hardbacked books so the increased price is worth it.

You only need to buy the book that contains the stuff in question. And IA2 basically condensed much of what they had made previously into a single book.

We'll leave the FW legality debate out of this thread please, this includes digs at other posters and the like too. Thanks.

I wish more people would distinguish between Forgeworld models and Imperial Armour rules.
