I'm sure this has been covered innumerable times, but my interweb skills seem to be lacking and I can't find the issue. Is it possible for boyz mob nobz to equip big shootas? As in one boy in 10 gets a big shoota, then is upgraded to a nob?I find nothing in the faq to deny this option, and nothing in the codex either.

Armies I play:
-5000 pts
-2500 pts
Mechanicus -1850 pts

The weapon upgrades are available to 1 in 10 'orks' rather than boyz specifically. So yes, you can give one to the nob.

I've always read it as an either/or proposition. You can either equip a "boy" with a big shoota or you can upgrade him to a nob. I've never seen a Nob with a big shoota.

adds an interesting dynamic.

Again, it says you can upgrade an Ork, not a Boy.

In the last codex, Boz mobs were limited to 2 special weapons, but the Nob could take one from the armoury. In this codex, they removed the armour, increased the special weapon limit to 3, and allowed the Nob to take one of those 3. End result is exactly the same.

Giving the big shoota to the Nob has been a fairly commonly used option for 3 editions now.

If anyone gives you guff about it, look in the codex. On the last page where they show painting/conversion ideas, they show an ork with a big shoota and a pklaw. Also, on gamesworkshop themselves you can get a solo nob with bigshoota and a pklaw.

The rules that allow it are you upgrade the nob whenever you want. Seeing as how nothing is replaced when upgrading the nob, this is allowed. This also avoids nobz being required to have a Shoota in shoota boyz groups, and they cannot have a shoota since it states it replaces both weapons not one (big shoota says slugga only).

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

The rule that allows it is simply that the Nob is an ork

Or that, i use my excuse because its also the excuse that lets me have slugga-pklaw to begin with.
Or for that matter bigshoota-pklaw in a shoota group, as if it was Upgrade to Shootas first or never you'd never have a pklaw.

Whichever way you want to view it its still legal and i do it all the time. Only one of my nobs is modeled to have the bigshoota but im working on the rest (sluggas to bigshootas arent that hard with toothpicks at the ready )

No, that would be the Codex Orks FAQ that allows that.
