I'm back and thought I'd reintroduce myself.

My name's mike and I collect CSM Emperor's Children.
I have friends who collect 40k also, Two necron players, Guard, Dark Angels, Blood Ravens, Orks, More Guard come to think of it.. More Dark Angels aswell..

Anyway, I've started a little 40k storm in that all of my friends are now learning to play and actively painting, collecting and waging wars again.

GW should probably give me commission or something.

Anyway, I've got a few questions regarding CSM in 6th edition.
Can you redirect me to the best forum to ask these questions? But if you can answer them please feel free.

Firstly, I'm looking at setting up my army with a Sorcerer. Now I've been reading up on mastery levels, warp charges etc.
Sorcerer is 60 points, he comes with mastery level 1 as standard. If I want to bump him up it's a further 25pts per mastery level.
I understand that the higher mastery level, the more spells he can take. Also, 1 warp charge per mastery level.
So if I had a sorcerer of mastery level 3, he has 3 warp charges. But within the codex and rulebook I can only find abilities in which the Sorcerer would be able to use 2 warp charges. What purpose would a 3rd warp charge serve? As I assume he can only use one spell per turn. (Remember, I'm learning)

Also, Do dreadnoughts now take the hellbrute rules?

I'll leave it at that for now, but I'll probably have loads more to ask.

AFAiK your mastery level equals your amount of spells per round but you can“t spend more then your 3 charges doing it.

You can keep casting spells as long as you have warp charges. But you cannot make more than 1 witch fire (shooting) attack.

Therefore you can cast a warp charge 2 spell and then charge into combat and spend 1 charge on activating your force weapon (see force weapons - 1 charge).

Or you can cast 1 malediction at the start of your movement phase for 1 warp charge (assuming its a 1 warp charge spell) then cast a big spell (wich fire) attack for 2 more warp charges in the shooting phase

Warp charges refresh each player turn so you can use them again in your opponents turn. However the only uses in your opponents turn are activating your force weapon (unless you have some funky special ability that lets you cast in opponents turn).

Indeed, if you have 3 warp charges you can either cast 3 single warp charge powers or a Double warp charge power and a single one.

As for the Dreadnought, yes, it's essentially a Helbrute now.

Thanks guys.

Okay so to clarify, I can only use one witchfire power per turn, in place of Shooting as it's essentially Psychic shooting.
I can however (provided I have enough warp charges) use other psychic abilities such as Symphony of Pain as it is a Maelediction. Do I use Maelediction spells in my move phase, despite targetting the foe, or is that within the shooting phase too? I suppose it doesn't make much difference. I could probably find that in my rulebook but it's at home and I'm just curious.

Also with snapshots, I assume witchfire abilities can't be used when the enemy is assaulting, but is that assumption wrong? Please tell me it's wrong.

Edit:
Reread the witchfire rules which state it's only used in the shooting phase. I assume witchfire abilities can't be used to snapfire during overwatch then. That's fine.

Yes. Essentially you could cast Hysterical Frenzy on your own unit, then cast Symphony of Pain on another unit, and then cast Smite as a shooting attack, using up all three warp charges.
And yes, helbrutes are apparently what we call our dreadnoughts now.
Also keep in mind you can only take half (Rounding up) of your power allotments from the lore of your god.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
