This is my take on a Canadian Rifle Company. Rated CV with a total of 9 Platoons.

HQ

Company HQ 30

Combat Platoons

2x Rifle Platoons (6 Rifle/MG, 1x PIAT, 1x Light Mortar) 480
1x Rifle Platoon + 4x C15TA armoured Trucks (6 Rifle/MG, 1x PIAT, 1x Light Mortar) 195

Weapons Platoons

Anti Tank Platoon - 2x QQF 6Pdr 85

Support Platoons

2x Canadian Armoured Platoon - 2x Sherman 1x Firefly 610

1x Field Battery, RCA - 4x QQF 25Pdr 195

1x Rocket Battery, RCA - 2x Land Matress Rocket Launcher 135

1x Anti Tank Platoon - 2x QQF 17pdr 150

Total: 1780

What do you think? I see the lack of Machine Guns in this list but i hope its made up by the land matress rocket launchers.

This is my alternative. Difference is i dropped the armoured rifle platoon for bringing the 6pdr guns and the matress launchers to 4 guns. This list has 8 total platoons rated CV.

1x Anti Tank Platoon - 2x QQF 17pdr 150

1x Air Observation Post

Total 1760

Which list would you prefer and what would you use the 20 points on that are left in the second list?

List two is more to my liking!

Two things I'd consider you're likely to be defending vs tanks/mech - 17pdrs are powerful, but are very expensive, I'd consider more 6drs, remember the enemy has to come to you!

I'd also have 2 shermans and 2 fireflies, there the 17pdrs are far more effective!

My only other consideration is that whilst the landmattress is fun, consider some 5'5'' artillery, if you combine bombardment you get a double wide templates AT 5 FO4+ IIRC.

The 2 Shermans 2 Fireflies option is too expensive on 1780. Thats an additional 260 Points. With the CT list i'd consider it ... but not with the CV. I really try have at least 8 platoons to deploy. Also i have 4 5.5" artillery guns but i'd like to try out the land mattress'.

I face a lot of heavy german armour. Most of the time in infantry companies so i cant rely on being the defender and i need heavy antitank as well as a lot of artillery to drive the infantry out if i happen to be the attacker. The land mattress seem fitting for my situation.

I think i will stick with the 2nd list add an AOP and look how it goes.

I've a lot of experience playing British para's if you're going to be commonly facing infantry, then make sure you have three infantry platoons, you need it to assault well.

From experience of using British infantry I'd rather have 1 platoon of 2 shermans - 2 fireflies than 2 of 3 and 1, also if you are Canadian consider the armoured recon option - the shermans can move and keep gtg

Hmm i wanted a rifle heavy army anyway. So what about this approach? Has a total of 8 Platoons with 3 Rifle Platoons. I also had the points to get 4x6pdr and 4x Land Mattress'.

Quick question to ease my utter ignorance- Does the rocket launcher battery get a staff team and can it fire smoke barrages?

Rocket launchers don't get staff teams (so no all guns repeat - very useful as a Brit) as for smoke - can't remember

No they dont. But they are treated as having a staff team if they are in command range of one. This way they are able to do all guns repeat if im not mistaken.

In that case I'd say they are worth it on the attack. Not being able to repeat against dug-in inf is the one place where rockets phail, but if they hug the 25pdr's then they ought to shine.

in the rule book, it says an artillery team with a staff team, not one within command distance

Hm understood this one wrong after rereading you are correct. A battery needs at least one gun troop with an attached staff team to join combined bombardment. Since this is not the case with the rocket launchers they cant join combined bombardments.

Thats a bummer tbh. Makes them kinda useless in comparison to 5,5" guns as an addition to the 25pdrs. Bad luck i already ordered them . I will try them out nevertheless since i have them now anyway and really like the models. But good thing this came up before i cheated someone with them on the battlefield .
