Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of what collecting or playing a Luftwaffe field division is like? If so thanks, or even just a point in the right direction.

i personally do not have any experience in playing that list ,but i do know a few people that have played them and did not care for them. They soon switched to the HErman Goring Division from Dogs and Devils. All of the players were in USAF)If interested they are listed in Earth and Steel.Their rating is reluctant - trained so not the best.Herman Gorings list has alot of 88s and paratroopers, even a Panzer division.

My reasoning for picking the field division was my preference for that branch of service, I liked the Goring division, though I'm not sure if they have a grenadier option, do they? I really dont want to go mechanized, expensive in my opinion, thanks

They do have the equivalent of a Grenadier option, that's basically what a Luftwaffe Felddivision is - an infantry division made up of Luftwaffe personnel.

They are poorly-rated infantry, the advantage of that being you can field a ton of them. It's an opportunity for a German player to try their hand at a horde-type army. There's no reason to go with less than three full infantry platoons, and you are going to need all of them if you ever have to attack.

They also have good air and AAA assets. 88s and other good stuff.

It's an interesting army but it's going to play a bit differently than a standard CV Grenadier or Panzergrenadier force.

My most frequent FoW opponent has used the Luftwaffe against me twice and I haven't been able to defeat them. I lost to them terribly one time and the other time we ground out a draw (we didn't have the time to finish).
I think they have good support and should not be underestimated!

If you want to play luftwaffe, why not Fallschirmjager?

My choice for picking either the field division or the Herman Gorring are rather trivial to be honest. My first reason was that we already have a Fallschirmjager player and the other is that I personally dislike the fallschirmjager paratrooper helmet

Just saying, if you want to play an Air Force unit (and why wouldn't you, its a superior branch of service ), your options are a ragtag unit of mechanics, planeless pilots, and support personnel thrown into line combat units with the hope that their political ideology will see them through(luftwaffe field div), an over-bloated police/security/air-defense unit given tanks and sent into combat (HG div, to be fair they acquitted themselves nicely), or the Air Force equivalent of Marines (FJ)... i know which I would pick lol.
