So i took an impromptu trip to Warhammer World tomorrow and was struck by a few of the things that were 'Out on Campaign' and thus missing from the display cabinets. Often this has been a good indicator of what may be on the horizon as they may be off in battle reports or having army shots done to include new releases.

40K
Eldar - 80% missing
Tau - 50% missing
Tyranids 100% present

WFB
Skaven - 80% missing
High Elves - 80% missing
Dark Elves - missing EXCEPT Cauldron of Blood Witch Elves Dark Riders and Black Guard so draw your own conclusions there

They were the major absences, there were a few other bits missing here and there. Forgot to look for Dwarves but the Lizardmen were there.

Could mean something, could mean nothing, personally i think the Dark Elves miniatures that were left in the cabinet are a very good indicator.

What of Tau were still there? I would expect the battlesuits to still be there as it's rumoured they are redoing those.
Vespids and perhaps some kroot minis left behind as well.

Skaven must be due for an update then...

Or just a battle report? As an example, iirc they trotted out Eldar to show off the new allies rules in WD.

The Dark Elves would be a lovely coincidence if they got updated in 3 months or so (presumably being photographed for WD etc), or even feature in WD at all for that matter.

Also, I went down there at least 2 or 3 months ago. From what I recall the same sort of amount is missing. I dont think it means much.

Aren't Eldar and Tau due to get a new flier? Could be they have taken some of the other models for a photo shoot/battle report

I've been up there 3-4 times in the past 6 months and the Tau, Eldar, and Tyranids have been exactly as you describe them every time. The Lizardmen were gone but I did see them last time I was up there in January. I'm not sure how much stock can be put in this really. Especially since Warriors of Chaos and Daemons were there in January.

Didn't read anything about a new Skaven army book yet but boy, that would be SWEET.

I don't think that there too much to it. All the Tau were out when I was there three years ago, barely a sniff of a new codex in that time.

Had a look at the cabinets at Warhammer World during the last 40k Throne of Skulls tournament (~20th Jan). At that point there were virtually no Daemons and Tau and not much Eldar on display. Didn't notice that Tyranids were missing and didn't pay much attention to the WHFB stuff.

Guess they've finished photographing Daemons for a while now (assuming it must be for the latest White Dwarf, since the codex would have been long done in January).

Interesting there's still not many Tau and Eldar models there. Perhaps codex and WD photoshoot!

Eldar much being out would make sense if they were at about the photographing models/scenes stage for a new codex. Tau being out is a bit late for codex or even WD, but for GW website to go with the Tau release would make sense.
High Elves are supposed to come out around the same time as Eldar, so again, Codex pictures makes sense.
Skaven and Dark Elves are more likely to be things like Battle Report stuff, maybe big spread in HE book.

No, they were updated a few years ago.

I'm thinking the Skaven are absent to be used as an "opposing" army for whichever fantasy army is being updated. After all, the new FotM needs to have someone to fight.

Still, Skaven are pretty much set for this edition. Except for some models still in Finecast, I don't really think we'll see anything for them before the next edition of the game.
