Noise Marine Terminator with Sonic Blaster

OK, so I have been going back and forth between this list and one with Huron. Leaning towards this one right now, but overall, I have never been a big fan of my list building abilities.
HQ
Ahriman - Warlord
Chaos Lord w/ Mark of Slaanesh
Troops
9x Thousand Sons (Gift of Mutation) - Rhino w/ havoc launcher
5x Noise Marines (Blastmaster) - Rhino w/havoc launcher
5x Noise Marines (Blastmaster) - Rhino w/havoc launcher
5x Noise Marines (Blastmaster)
Fast Attack
5x Raptors (2x Meltagun)
5x Raptors (2x Meltagun)
Heldrake w/ baleflamer
Heavy Support
Chaos Vindicator
Chaos Vindicator
Chaos Vindicator w/combi-bolter
Fortification
Bastion w/lascannon
Notes:
Chaos lord is there to make noise marines troops and to man the lascannon on the bastion. I know the quad-gun is the trendy pic, but I have a character here who's main role is to unlock elites. I figured take advantage of his BS5 and otherwise keep him cheap.
Only one combi-bolter on the vindis because 2 of the 3 are old metal models and do not have it modelled on. It is just there to possibly save the cannon on a weapon destroyed.
Noise marines without a ride are on the bastion with the boss.

I'm not a chaos player, so take my comments with the appropriate amount of salt.
But why mix the T-sons with the noise marine? Why not just take one or the other? Then you could save a bunch of points by getting rid of Ahriman and get a bunch more space marines.
You could also get a boat load of cultists and have them man the lascannon, but I know they have crappy BS.

Well, I was going with a Huron mix that used just all noise marines. I think I will go back to that (especially when that T-Sons and Ahriman squad is like 500+ points).
I have mixed feelings on cultists. One list has two 10 man squads that I intend to have walk on and carjack some rhinos. Another just has one big blob of cultists. I just need a chance to playtest it out to see if cultists are worth it. One use I do see for them is against those vile Dark Angels. Infiltrating a blob 18" off my opponents bikes in a line. THe intent would be to hinder his move following his scout move.

I would drop Ahriman and the thousand sons and get some regular marines because dropping them saves some where upwards of 400 points.
and if your are going for a all slanesh theme
10-15 marine squad 2 plasma guns MOS with icon of excess can be pretty nasty with FNP.
all that above is under 400 points i believe.

Again, I don't play chaos so salt my comments to taste, but...
I think one nice use for chaos cultists would be to hold objectives in the back field. You could deploy them to reserve and bring them on later in the game just to walk onto those home-field objectives. I think they're good at this mission because you can get a blob of 20 cultists with no upgrades at all very cheaply. If they end up coming in on turn 3 or 4, then they won't be shot at until later in the game if at all. After 3 or 4 turns of being punished by your units, most of your opponents units will have a tough time killing off 20 cultsists in the last couple of turns. That frees up your space marines and lets them push forward without worrying about the back field. How much is a cultist anyway? Like 4 points? If you trade in Ahriman and your T-sons, you could get two blobs of 25 cultists and still have 200+ points to spare.
That said, I also like the previous poster's idea of standard Chaos space marines with the mark of slaanesh.
One more thing - the combi-bolter on the vindicator is kind of a waste. You can't shoot it if you shoot the demolisher cannon anyway. Save the points for something else.

Interesting list, but my thougts echo others; ditch the Thousand Sons as they are a bit meh and then bulk up on plain CSM and add some Cultists for cheap objective holders. Automatically Appended Next Post: Grugknuckle wrote:

The bolter can snap fire. You're thinking of ordnance barrage.

I dont think 2 squads of 5 raptors a really needed i think one will do its job. I think you should swap it for a group of spawns or nurgle bikers

Id stick with the cheap raptors to deliver 2 melta guns, because they move over difficult and dangerous terrain no problem but just dont land on it and can get behind most vehicles no problem. Id get a melta bomb on champ just so you can charge a vehicle if meltas are out of range or failed.
Just replace the 1ksons with as many NM toting blastmasters and put those without a rhino on the bastion.

Ahriman is the kind of HQ you really have to build your entire army around to make worth it. Huron is really like a bargain version of Ahriman so you can't really go wrong with him. When it comes to T-sons, just ask yourself "Do I have enough ranged AP3?". Between the Helchicken, the Vindis and the Blastmasters I'd say you have that covered. I'd keep both Raptor squads and give them VotLW for the +1 to Leadership because the squads are too small to merit an Icon of Vengeance. I do like the Lord on the Lascannon. I feel that if you have BS5 to put on a turret, the Las is the way to go. The Quad gun is for Cultists IMO.

Weapon destroyed is randomized now. For 5 points, I get a 50% chance of not losing the cannon.

All I'm saying is that the outcome that you're spending points on to prevent has a very low likelihood of occurring in the first place. Consider that the only time these points will pay for themselves is IF the one vindicator with the combi bolter is hit with a penetrating hit, then the damage roll is a W.D. , then you roll a 1,2 or 3 instead of a 4, 5 or 6 and THEN the demolisher cannon shoots on a following turn and subsequently destroys something. This outcome can only happen on the very small chance that your one vindicator with the bolter gets hit and penned by something in the first turn or two of the game and even assuming that does happen, your points only reduce the chance of losing your demolisher cannon by about 8% (from 16% to 8%). It's not worth it.
