Subject: 750 point Chaos list, new to Chaos

Hi all, I'm in a local escalation league and need to make a 750 point list that I have to use for two games without changing the list. I've only played one game as Chaos so far, so I'm brand new to it. (And still pretty new to 40k in general) So, any advice is appreciated.
The local meta is mostly space marine players, one daemon army, one necron army and a couple of tyranid armies. I don't know who I'll be playing.
HQ: 220 points
Chaos Lord, mark of nurgle, sigil of corruption, combat familiar, gift of mutation, palanquin of nurgle, veteran of the long war and The Black Mace.
Troops1: 205 points
Aspiring Champion, melta bomb, power sword, gift of mutation.
6 Plague Marines, veterans of the long war.
Troops2: 85 points
Cultist Champion
11 Cultists, stubber, autoguns and mark of tzeench.
Heavy: 240
Landraider, dirgecaster, dozer blade.
My tactics would be to hide the cultists somewhere near an objective, and move them onto an objective at the end to claim it. The troops and Lord go inside the Landraider and move forward, focusing on the enemy's most expensive units with assault. The Lord is meant to take out troops (8 attacks on the charge + daemon weapon) and the Aspiring Champion is there to absorb/issue challenges. I feel like I could get linebreaker, maybe first blood, and whittle down enemy troop choices like that. The Lord has 5 wounds, 5 toughness 3+/4+ and can shunt wounds onto his Feel No Pain nurgle marines to add survivability.

man that HQ is taking up too much of your points. I would rop the palaquin and the combat familiar.
The landraider is also too much. I would reccomend taking some more bodies. I would shoot this list to death in two turns running the one that I did this weekend.

Ageed with these suggestions. I would like to add that the MoT on the cultists is just wasted points, it only grants a 6+ save which will be tough to make. Cultists are expendable, nothing more.
One of the things you might have issues with is a flyer. Does your local league use them? You might have trouble facing those. You could also think about adding one of your own. A Heldrake with baleflamer easily chops up the mostly marine league (gotta love ap3). Swapping it with your landraider also frees up some extra points for marines.

Alright, I'm definetly taking those suggestions into consideration. The thing about this list, is that I'm investing pretty much everything into the Landraider and HQ + Plague Marines. The cultists are there simply as a necessary troops choice, and potentially an objective holder at the end of the game.
I had a version of this list earlier minus the palanquin and landraider, with a rhino as a transport instead. The extra points went into a Havoc squad with lascannons and autocannons. But then someone suggested that I should use the landraider as my transport since it has lascannons too, and my troops can assault out of it.

I can understand where youre coming from. But with this low amount of targets your cultist will probably get killed off on the first turn (since everything will shoot at them that cant hurt av14). Its a gamble with the landraider, one lucky hit messes you up bad, not to mention meltabombs the next turn since you can at most charge one squad at a time.

How would you feel about downgrading the Lord a bit, dropping the Landraider and replacing those points with an anti-vehicle Havoc squad, a rhino and more cultists?

This might be a better solution, flesh out the cultist squad by a quite a few (so they break less easy to low ld). Its also a question of who takes the first turn. If youre confident to the abilities of your hq and plague marines you can just use the cultists as meat shield in deployment. Field them in front of your rhino and havocs. Its up to you how close to your max deployment you field them. If your opponent gets the first turn your rhino and havocs are obscured and at least get cover saves. Then you can just move them to the side and charge ahead with your rhino and shoot with your havocs. This should at least take a turn away from them shooting at your expensive units.
Edit: remember that the palequin cant fit inside the rhino.

That's a pretty solid idea. Here's what I have without the landraider:
HQ: 165
Chaos Lord with mark of nurgle, sigil of corruption, veteran of the war, gift of mutation and black mace.
Troops1: 335
Aspiring Champion with power sword, gift of mutation, melta bomb and veteran of the war.
8 Plague Marines, veterans of the war, melta x2
Rhino with dirgecaster, dozer blade and combi-melta, combi bolter.
Troops2: 120
Cultist Champ
24 Cultists, 2 stubbers
Heavy: 130
Havoc Champion
4 Havocs. mark of nurgle, 4x autocannon

Its a good list as far a I can see. Just remember to try and shield your plague marines a bit with the rhino (which can basicly be a cheap shield after its main job is done) after disembarking (by blocking los). Also with 6th disembark with your hq and champ at the rear of your marines facing the enemy. This prevents them from becoming the first casulties after disembarking. You can always pu them in front with the assault move.
I hope your two games go well and that you enjoy them and your new chaos army. Good luck.
