Depressing news.
Obviously great painters aren't any less great than they were with a GD, but things like the Crystal Brush just aren't the same to me.
I shouldn't be 34 and waxing nostalgic about elements of this hobby being removed, I should be at least in my fifties and complaining about kids these days and their holographic mind painting.

A very large part of that is simply that GD has been around forever and has built a large amount of prestige because of that.

There's no reason that other events can't build the same level of prestige if people support them. The level of the stuff that I saw at Crystal Brush last year and Auscon's 'Wizards of Oz' the year before was easily the equal or better than the stuff that comes out of Golden Demons, but without being limited to GW's model range. These sort of independent events need to be supported by the community if we want to still have prestige events, because clearly GW's interest in such things is waning.
