Following on from Alfndrate's Neverborn thread found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/510561.page I would like to start with my personal favourite Faction. . .

Firstly, a little disclaimer!

I'm not a Henchman and by no means an "expert" of Malifaux. I have a few years of experience but until recently was an on-off Malifaux'er. Everything I put here will be to the best of my knowledge and if I make any mistakes or give the wrong info then I will of course edit/revise any corrections that you guys "kindy" point out!

A couple of links to wet your apatite:

PULL MY FINGER! Anyone who knows Malifaux, knows this wiki. It has an amazing level of info and tacticas and is being constantly updated. Bookmark this one (just below Dakka! ) http://pullmyfinger.wikispaces.com/Resurrectionists

MALIFAUX.com! Not so much for tactics but rather background Fluff and Stories! http://www.malifaux.com/Rezers.php Also home to the very usual (and fun to play with ) CREW CREATOR http://www.malifaux.com/Crew.php

WYRD MINIS! Be the first to see your Factions newest upcoming units and all things Wyrd! http://www.wyrd-games.net/content.php They also have a Forum but tbh it's not a patch on Dakka and it doesn't see much traffic.

The point of this Thread!

 Alfndrate wrote:
So this is a little idea I had as a way to resolve 1 or 2 issues we seem to get here in this section of Dakka, with the exception of one or two regulars, there seems to be little activity until a new player jumps into the conversation and asks about a specific master. While those threads are still good, a question we often get asked is "where do I go from here?" Malifaux is extremely fluid in it's play, the same list you take for one encounter might be different than another. This could be due to the cards you flip/draw, the strategies, schemes, or even your opponent's play style. So this thread will start us out, and I encourage anyone else to start threads like this for the other factions .

 Alfndrate wrote:
So here is how posts should go in this thread (if you're submitting a list):

[Strategy], [Scheme 1], [Scheme 2]

Master w/Soulstone Cache
Minion1
Minion2
...
etc...

vs

Opponent's Master

Feel free to include more if you want to, but every post that is submitting a list and experience should at least strive to include those things.

Alternatively you could just copy the text output from the Malifaux Crew Creator.

Add in a little BatRep!

Make it as brief or as detailed as you want.

A few things to think about;

Were there any neat tricks that you managed to pull off, or even that your opponent did to you?

Any combos or synergies that were game changers or just caught you by surprise?

Any comedy moments? (Probably a lot of Gremlins for this one! )

Man of the Match? Or a model you missed from your usual crew and regretted?

What you learnt?

Your next purchase?

So hopefully you get the idea and hopefully we can piece together a decent Tactica of our own, right here on Dakka! Have fun all!

If you don't mind, how do you go about ensuring you have the body parts to get Simulcrum 29 on the field?

You can "buy" body parts for 1ss each at the crew hire stage! Also once you summon sim29, McM stays around to keep collecting them! Although i tend to hire the totem then sacrifice him, netting 2 body parts for 1ss!

I know you can sell stones, but you need like what? 10 to get sim29?

If you have a flesh construct in play, you replace that with sim29. If not, McM can suffer 3Wd or spend 4 body parts and PLACE sim29 within 3"!

Also at the end of the turn, if sim29 is not in play, McM can spend 6 body parts to Place him with 6". Sim29 suffers 5Wd when doing this!

That's right... When I was doing the Avatar's Demo at GenCon, I had someone asking me what happens since his Flesh Construct had died.

Though I find it rather odd to not have at least 2 Flesh Constructs on the Board

Its actually pretty rare that i have shortages of body parts with McM. scalpel sling, rancid transplant (with scalpal magic if possible) and dissection will take down damn near anything and rake in the body parts.

Forgot to add that with the scalpal sling/rancid transplan/dissection combo you can potentially meet your manifest requirements in one activation too.

Let The Games Begin. . .

Well, as soon as I flipped for Line in the Sand I was like. . .great! So far I had had zero success with this Strategy but I figured, new crew, new ideas!

Turn 1
Starting the Encounter I knew I had to do 1 thing! Turn Izamu into a Spirit! And that I did! (Using Lost Loves Pass Beyond) All I can say is WOW! He is hard. He's hard as he is but as soon as you whack Spirit on him, he not only becomes so much more agile but to do more than 1 Wd on him (with non-magical attack), you have to do no less than 7 Dg! (7 Dg, halved (Due to spirit) to 4 Dg (Rounding up) -2 Wd (Due to Object 2) = 2 Wd suffered) Crazy!

With him ready to be unleashed I set about my next challenge, turn a 2ss Canine Remains into a 3ss Gaki (or even a 5ss Onyro) and a 2ss Seishin! To do this, enter Datsue-Ba. She was to kill the Canine with Weigh Sins. In theory this would summon a Gaki (or Onyro with a X card as would trigger Wrongfully Judged) into base contact before removing the model. And as the model is removed Kirai would gain a Seishin from Spirit Anchor.

However, in my infinite wisdom of playing as undead, I figured that the Canines Hard to Wound (H2W) would most likely mean that Datsue-Ba would be inflicting Moderate or even Weak Dg with the Weigh Sins causing only 1 or 2 Dg to the Canine, meaning that I'd have to redo the spell to finish him off. So I chose to knife the Canine first to soften it up! . . . . Oh dear! For once the cards were playing the right game and decided to flip me a severe and a mod for damage! Being a - flip I couldn't cheat this so inflicted 3 Dg on the Canine, killing it and so denying me the chance to summon in a free Gaki! Doh! I did however get the Seishin!

Right then, with 1 out of 2 plans going rather well my next goal was to get Izamu on the move. [Meanwhile the gremlins were running around the Bayou looking for Treasure and causing themselves Wds through their Recklessness! Occasionally popping off a shot or two towards the Spirits but usually hitting fences or trees instead! ].

Turn 2
The Spirits didnt do an awful lot this turn, mainly due the Ikyro popping up 12" from the group in base contact with Ophelia only to get mullered by one of her Totems before having chance to do anything! No panic, didn't really cost too much apart from 5 Wd to Kirai. I'm not panicking at this point because I've read all about this. She needs to take Wds to work and the fact that there's whole bunch of troublesome Bayou Locals the other side of the shack really shouldn't be a problem. . . *Gulp!*

Turn 3
With Izamu all fired up and the Gremlins closing fast I thought I'd send the big guy in! But not without a little help. Kirai was kind enough to Heal him some Wds (which he suffered from Pass Beyond and then felt it necessary to give the big guy Reactivate from Spiritual Combination. This send him on his merry way and put him right where he wanted to be, in Melee! First Walking round the Shack, then Walking upto Ophelia, then whacking her once causing a whopping 6 Dg! Ouch! Ophelia triggered her squeal giving her a PUSH away from Izamu and he triggered himself a healing flip! Nice! He then proceeded to Reactivate and Charge Ophelia this time, shoving one of her "Bodyguard" Totems out the way! Whacking her again with another 6Dg! Bye Bye Ophelia (after a botched prevention flip) Bye Bye 3 Totems! Bye Bye 2 VP for my Betrayed by Spirits scheme! Bye Bye 2 VP for the Gremlins for Frame for Murder! Another Healing Flip for Izamu and back to full health! [Meanwhile the Gremlins were taking out Datsue-Ba (who had basically lost my need for her after a few lousy activations) but whose death did net me another Seishin! And one wiley Gremlin, Namely Raphael was legging it (or more like strolling with a reduced walk of 4") back to his Deployment with the Loot!]

Turn 4
Much the same for Izamu as he set off after Francois this time, taking him out in one swift charge. Bagging the Resser a further 2 VP for Grudge. The rest of this turn saw the Gremlins trying to regroup and Raphael moving further back to his table edge! My Spirits then set about Arming the Dynamite for Line in the Sand!

Turn 5
The Onyro and the newly summoned Ikyro (from turn 4) set about taking out Rami and the 2 Slop Haulers, Izamu set chase to Raphael and the rest (including a newly summoned Gaki) carried on Arming the Dynamite. By this point Kirai was able to get closer to Izamu to give him Reactivate again who then caught Raphael and made short work of him!

Turn 6
Turn 6 was auto-played as there were no Gremlins left. The Gaki flipped the last Dynamite giving the Ressers another 4 VP. Izamu Forgot to pick up the Treasure from the Gremlin Deployment zone giving the Gremlins another 2VP.

Victory

Ressers 6 VP
Outcasts 4 VP

Excellent game, even the Gremlins enjoyed it to a point! Prehaps Izamu was a little too much ? How effective would Kirais crew be without Izamu?

Thanks for reading, hope it wasn't too mind numbing! (I know my legs are now. . . time for a stretch! )

Tis why I love the good Doctor!

It's probably also worth mentioning about Nurses. Who are now much more useful with the introduction of Avatars as they can give your Master Reactivate through Massive Dose and as long as your Master Manifests the same turn then the Massive Dose side-effect (Death) is removed from the Master along with any other effect!

Ok, so I'm new to Malifaux and decided that Kirai would be my first crew .Some may think its a mistake, as she is apparently a tough Master to Master, but i enjoy playing with her even though sometimes I'm not sure what to do next! I started with her crew box, along with a blister of Lost Love (to give me that extra protection while learning to play the game and getting to grips with her!) along with some more Seishin (I read that just one isn't enough, so i bumped it up to 3).

Anyway my first game came and went and WOW, what a mind f***. I felt completely out of my depth, not sure what anything does or how to use it! That game came and went and well.........atleast I learnt how to play Malifaux, not i just have to concentrate on mastering Kirai. Looking back at my first game I don't think I was using the Seishin to their potential - basically using them to surround Kirai just incase anyone hit her. Not using them to get more spirits - therefore not getting anymore when I killed things!

So onto the second game. My opponent was Lady Justice, with an exorcist, a guild person with an eagle (don't know its name sorry!) and 3 guild riflemen. Anyway I think the game started well, managing to take out his guild riflemen within the first 3 turns. It then went downhill. Looking back at it my main problem again was not using the Seishin to their potential, always playing to defensive with them. Looking at it I thought that the main reason I was playing defensive was due to the fact I had no other spirit models to summon, so i bought some gaki and some more Seishin to get my upto the max. 5!

Onto my 3rd game. Kirai vs Nicodem! Wow this was a long game!! although it was long I believe I was more offensive with Kirai, basically being in the middle of the Nicodems crew by turn 2 and staying there with her wall of seishin! On the bright side I did use them for summoning, gaining about 5-6 Gaki throughout the game, although they did die pretty quickly. The main reason for this was because, in my opinion, i was activating Kirai to early in the turn, therefore summoning the spirits only to have something activate and attack them! That being said I did try a few daring things, although poor planning and fate were not on my side. For example, having 2 Gaki on the board I decide to activate another and put him witrhin melee distance of Nicodem (hoping that with Unstoppable Eaters i may have a chance of 'Devour Anything'....ing him - especially since he has a low Df and that is the Rst). Unfortunately what I failed to foresee was his next activation of a punk zombie - killing the other 2 Gaki due to being on >3 wounds each, therefore ruining my Plan!!! In fairness I would of never won that game. Mainly because I still, havnt got around the schemes - and havn't found any that I enjoy or that Kirai is good at, but that just some with experience.

Another one of my downfalls I've noticed is that the majority of how you play is determined by your knowledge of the opposing crew! This I learned the hardway, activating an Onryo to cast 'Blind to Spirits' on a flesh construct. Two things wrong with this. Firstly my opponent told me the flesh construct doesn't actually have any charges, spells or ranged attacks therefore making the spell useless. Secondly he is immune to Wp Duels, again making the spell useless!

So thats my experiences so far. I'll keep you posted as my experience grows!

Twas a ruddy good game though!

Nicodem's not keen on being that close to combat but his minions managed to take the brunt of the attacks!

From what I have been told about leviticus my hopes really weren't that high (i am a new player to Malifaux so still learning about other masters and all the schemes and strategies!). Anyway he got the initative and proceeded to activate Leviticus, doing all the usual stuff he does to get him to as low wounds as possible. Although he achieved this, this happened to be his un-doing. As it since he activated Leviticus first, meant that he couldn't use the last corpse count that he got from Alice killing the Canine Remain to summon another Hallow Waif, and also Leviticus dying from rust alice also.
Anyway to cut a long story short, I ran the Onyro forward, turned kirai into a spirit, swapped her with the Onyro and then summoned Ikiyro 12" away into base contact the his only Hallow Waif. To which my opponent replied with a concede at the end of first turn!

So we played again! Same crews, same strategies. Only difference was I swapped my Seishin out with a Canine Remains (starting with no seishin felt like a massive risk - even tho i knew the canine remains would work out slightly better! Turn 1 saw me take the initiative and with Datsu-Ba i killed the Canine remains, gaining a gaki and a Seishin, due to Kirai's Spirit Anchor. I sent the Onyro right. Having to keep 50% of my starting models on the board meant I was playing very cautiously. Anyway the Onyro provided suitable bait for the 4 swirling steampunk abominations, which arrived within melee range of it, before turning themselves into a Desolation Engine. With the Desolation Engine on the board I activated Kirai, using swirling spirits to swap the Onyro with a Seishin, and then summoned Ikiryo close to Kirai (i didn't have an idea what to do with her at the moment but more models on the board next turn meant I had more leeway. I then pulled the Seishin back into base contact with Kirai. With that done Leviticus took pop shots at my seishin, killing it, leaving me with no seishin left on the table. The Shikome (who's prey was Alice) double ran and nibled her way 15" up the left hand side of the board, and sat nicely behind a statue out of LoS. I then used Ikiryo's Call Spirits to get my models further up the table.

The next few turns saw the desolation engine kill the Gaki, with me retaliating by heavily wound it with Datsu-ba then finishing it off with an Ikiyro. The Following turn datsu-ba and ikiyro killed the created steampunk abominations, which thanks to Kirai's close range and her spirit food, along with datsu-ba weigh sins, meant that out of one abomination I got 2 Gaki and a seishin, followed by a seishin from Ikiyro's kill.

It was the last turn and with Leviticus playing very defensive and sitting in the far corner (only to come out, kill a few Gaki then die) only to be brought back to life next to a close by Hallow Waif) I decided to power up the board. I kept quite far back at first, activating and passing the seishin, while sending the gaki after leviticus until levitiucs himself and alice had activated. I then began to move.

First I sent the Shikome into my oppenent deployment zone, which was followed by kirai spirit worlding to the onyro up the board then swirling herself with the Shikome, easily putting her into the oppenents deployment zone. I then moved all my remaining models more than 8" away from my deployment and ended the turn

The Final Score Was

Kirai - 4VP (leviticus kill Datsu-Ba last turn gaining me my announced Frame for Murder)
Leviticus - 2VP from Soulless Life
