So, what do you guys think about the imminent release of the new Tomb Raider game?

I'm not a fan of the franchise - I'm not too big on puzzle-esque games - but I have to say that this looks intriguing.

Mega-pre order hype. I'll wait for reviews, YouTube coverage and perhaps a steam sale.

I'm with you, not a big fan of puzzle-platformers. But might be worth playing.

It looks good. But the last one I was iffy on as well. It was OK

It's getting really good reviews. That's a good sign, as past few games in the series have been panned horribly (and with good reason). I'm optimistic.

Is it still Crystal Dynamics making them? I want to play this one but it'll have to wait till the latter half of the year.

Still Crystal Dynamics. They are a good studio.

The industry buzz is that the game is less about puzzling/raiding, and more about combat and characters. Which is really a continuation of the game's trajectory since no.2.

Personally I have enjoyed them less and less as time has gone on and they have moved farther from the original concept, but that just shows you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I never really got into the Tomb Raider games, mainly because of the clunky controls. When Crystal Dynamics took over I became more interested, mainly because of what they did with the superb Soul Reaver on the PS1. It made Tomb Raider seem hopelessly outdated to such a degree that Eidos published the publishing rights; now those games have also drifted from their roots, and not for the better.

I think it looks pretty good, and I loved the original series for PS1....but honestly, from what I last saw, it looked EXTREMELY similar to the Uncharted series. But, I am hopeful that it'll turn out well.

Early reviews are positive. Multiplayer is supposedly bad.

I don't understand why the whole 'attempted rape controversy' was even an issue though. If you're a woman captured by outlaws in a third world country/uncharted island you will probably be raped. A man will be tortured or killed. /shrug

I preordered on Steam.

I'm a fan of the TR franchise. I've played the games since the first one on the PS1 all the way up to Legend on the 360. I still have yet to try Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Tomb Raider Anniversary, or Tomb Raider: Underworld.

I even loved the movies though I wish Rhona Mitra had played Lara. (Rhona is the first person I've ever seen as a live model for Lara Croft and she's still my favorite).

I might pick it up on the PC - although I hated the button hammering aspect of the last game / PS3 games in general.

Its an wonderful francise in my opinion

I like them trying to get a new perspective on the series, away from that "badass with huge milk jugs" attitude to a more vulnerable protagonist - although that certainly creates some considerable plot holes. But alas, at least they're trying to change something and don't attempt to pull a Call of Doofy on us.

The Tomb Raider games did not age well, so I can only really recommend Tomb Raider: Legend and the new one.

Oh I have no intention of going back and playing the other ones. If this one is good Ill play this one and thats it. If its not, than I simply will have never played a Tomb Raider game

Can't agree on that one in terms of style, plot and gameplay - graphically obviously - but otherwise no. Its a bit like Resident Evil in that way.

I'm stupid. I wanted to name the remake, Anniversary. That's the one. Legend is bad-bad.

Actually I meant I still like the oldest ones but I was not very clear - sorry

I grabbed this today. I like it so far. It's a pretty good looking game, graphically. I'm not too far in yet but I'm definitely liking it.

It's getting fairly good reviews looks like. Metacritic has 8.5 user score on PC, 87 metascore/8.3 user on PS3, and 86 metascore/8.7 user on 360.

I refused to pre-order due to the terrible tier preorder system. The main reason they got a lot of preorders is because people who preordered the game convinced their friends to preorder the game so they could get more unlocks that should of been in the day 1 launch. I'm going to wait for a steam sale to teach the Compnay a lesson.

Well, there are Quicktime events, but I haven't found them onerous so far. Again, I'm not super far in yet either though.

One of the reviews I read said that the opening is a big self-indulgent, with a bunch of button mashing QTE's just to get you through the highly scripted opening, but once that's done with it settles into a more open style that has a lot more freedom.

A:CM is literally the only reason I haven't pre-ordered Bioshock Inifinite. So I understand your trepidation.
