Hello all,
I work for Tabletop Workshop. We're a small company from North Yorkshire in the UK who've just started up a 3D printing service for wargame scenery. We enjoy the hobby and would like to contribute our services to the wargaming community! Some of our designs can be used in Warhammer, 40k and LOTR. We design plastic models and can do one-off showcase prints for any custom-made scenery design and would love to help any wargamer finish off that ideal board. Our latest project was a highly detailed search light which can rotate and swivel as required. An image can be seen on our Facebook and Twitter below.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tabletop-Workshop/563457086999981?fref=ts
https://twitter.com/TabtopWorkshop
We are just starting out and are not selling anything specific yet but are currently working on ideas for building scenery and will be releasing these soon. We're interested to know what you think of our ideas and we'd love to hear ideas of what plastic scenery you want us to produce. You can keep up to date with us on Facebook and Twitter and I can be contacted by email at dan@enigmadesign.uk.com if you guys need any more info. We look forward to working with you all and the rest of the Wargaming Community!

A teaser of our first products for sale can be found here on our blog here:
http://tabletopworkshop.blogspot.com/2013/02/welcome-to-new-era-of-wargame-scenery.html
Early signs suggest it's a lot more cost effective then resin models of the same scale.

I clicked the link and didn't see any products after hunting around for a bit I did see the searchlight; but I have no idea what that costs if I wanted one. You might want to produce a few things and setup a store of some kind; then come back and announce when you're ready to go. I'm sure people would be interested. Also, I'm not entirely certain it matters to me how the part was produced. 3D printing is great and all, but really what matters is what I, as a consumer, can get from you and what that costs. One of your FB posts says "Imagine 10-12 buildings, that you could take down easily and store away.".. sounds great...but I'm more of a Show me, Don't Tell me sort of person. Do you have a couple buildings to show how that works? How much are they? In your original post here, you mention about scenery, can you show some of that? What's the expected cost? How would I even get started with you guys assuming I was interested? In other words, do you have a focused message of who you are, how it works - I don't mean the printer, that process really doesn't matter. Instead I'm trying to understand exactly what it is you are offering and what the value of that is. You'll notice I mention cost a few times in this post. For a few reasons, that searchlight looks cool but if it's $100 for one then I'm not interested. Next, you mention that your tech is more cost efficient than resin, great, prove it. One thing I'd like to see is a building or part printed and painted. In other words, what did it look like at the beginning and what does it look like when it's actually ready for use. Does paint stick to this type of plastic very well or should I expect flaking? Thanks and Good luck.

We're currently snowed under with work at the minute and our website and forum are still getting the finishing touches. We're just in the process of trying to let the world know who we are!
We're looking to get the buildings produced for one of the upcoming UK wargame shows and when that happens we'll be sure to get videos posted on our Social Networking sites demonstrating how the product works and pricing information. We'll also have a few professionally painted to show on forums like this. At the minute we're just dipping our toes in the water as this is our first venture into selling wargame models ourselves.
Thanks for your time and feedback though and hopefully we'll get you guys some samples pretty soon!

The following is not intended to be mean or snarky in any way shape or form as I am actually interested: It sounds like you have a cool idea, but maybe if you guys are so busy it might be better to delay any type of announcements until you are actually ready to launch. Meaning the things you call "finishing touches" but some of us believe are "important details" are good to go. First impressions and all...

Maybe prices have come down, but I actually looked into producing some of my terrain through 3D printing - it was more expensive than the resin casts! And my terrain is not exactly cheap to begin with...
Of course, that was over a year ago. This is a field that moves pretty quickly.

You're using sterolithography\DLP to print, yes?
I always thought this would be an interesting business plan - have customers send you masters and have you print them off for them, or license them to sell to the public at large. Curtis at Ramshackle does this, but with traditional casting techniques of physical masters, not from a CAD file.
Obviously there's Shapeways, but I find them both slow and over-expensive.

Yeah, but those could be, in video game parlance, Bullshots. One awesome image, and a note they can't show more due to "customer confidentiality" makes me a little dubious. I'm not calling shenanigans exactly but I'm certainly... tempering my excitement, yes?

Agreed...
Poor first impressions make me forget and move on. Would have been much better waiting to make your "announcement" when you had something to show other then a stock photo of your 3d printer.
I wish you the best though given that it was recently announced that Staples was thinking of bringing 3d printing to their local stores.

I'm curious as to why you chose stereolithography instead of FDM. Stereolith stuff tends to be more fragile and expensive to produce than material extrusion.

We're thinking about designing roads, bridges and other things in the same design so that they can be as long as the gamer desires. Find out more on our mailing list, Facebook and Twitter (below).

It's not STL, it's 3D printing. 3D printing with a polyjet resin has a smoother surface and much higher resolution then both STL's and FDM. We're aiming for maximum quality. We'll be using plastic injection to make the parts, we're using the 3D print to show you an early design of the parts. Expect the plastic injected parts to be much better than the 3D printed design above!

You kinda make me sad with this. Stereolithography is 3D printing. It's just one type of process. If you've gone with polyjet, I'm assuming you have an Objet printer. Just using the 3D printer to make molds then?
