The point of this Thread!

 Alfndrate wrote:
So this is a little idea I had as a way to resolve 1 or 2 issues we seem to get here in this section of Dakka, with the exception of one or two regulars, there seems to be little activity until a new player jumps into the conversation and asks about a specific master. While those threads are still good, a question we often get asked is "where do I go from here?" Malifaux is extremely fluid in it's play, the same list you take for one encounter might be different than another. This could be due to the cards you flip/draw, the strategies, schemes, or even your opponent's play style. So this thread will start us out, and I encourage anyone else to start threads like this for the other factions .

 Alfndrate wrote:
So here is how posts should go in this thread (if you're submitting a list):

[Strategy], [Scheme 1], [Scheme 2]

Master w/Soulstone Cache
Minion1
Minion2
...
etc...

vs

Opponent's Master

Feel free to include more if you want to, but every post that is submitting a list and experience should at least strive to include those things.

Alternatively you could just copy the text output from the Malifaux Crew Creator.

Add in a little BatRep!

Make it as brief or as detailed as you want.

A few things to think about;

Were there any neat tricks that you managed to pull off, or even that your opponent did to you?

Any combos or synergies that were game changers or just caught you by surprise?

Any comedy moments? (Probably a lot of Gremlins for this one! )

Man of the Match? Or a model you missed from your usual crew and regretted?

What you learnt?

Your next purchase?

So hopefully you get the idea and hopefully we can piece together a decent Tactica of our own, right here on Dakka! Have fun all!

Notes

Line in the Sand is one of my least favourite strategies but I have to go with what I'm givin. With this strategy in mind, I selected two Depleted, i figured that Shambling, a Push and a Decent Walk they'd be able to scurry around the table activating Bombs. Taelor ended up being my second selection over Mr Graves as Graves is not yet painted (I don't play unpainted mini's) and I fancied giving her a go. Since I'd have to be agressive getting across the table I picked Stake a Claim to complement this and for something I don't typically play. (I mean I picked a different crew why not scheme as well?)

We talked a bit about his list and strategy during the game so I thought I'd stick it in here, Essentially the Watcher's were going to do exactly what I didn't want them to, go for the evidence. In the mean time he was intending to protect Hoffman by sticking him behind the Wardens. Then he'd activate last and Machine Puppet the Wardens to hand out paralyze. The Pale Rider was included for mop up duties.

Let The Games Begin. . .

Turn 1 (all directions from my Point of View - it's my thread after all!)
A lot of movement up to the centre of the table, the Watcher moved to grab the Evidence on my left flank. Lynch put up The Source to speed up the crew. Pale Rider took to the large hill in the centre of the table. One of my Beckoners tagged him with a kiss to give him Brilliance. Hoffman and the Wardens moved up in a brick formation (So called because it is that subtle). hungering Darkness moved and failed to grabt eh Pale Rider with Heed My Voice, instead I settled by Permanantly gifting Taelor with Brilliance. One of the Depleted flung himself up at the wall of Wardens. Hoffman Machine Puppet'ed down to a single wound and had the Pale Rider do 2 wounds to Hungering Darkness (here after kniown as HD). under the effect sof The Source, taelor sped on towards her targets (Constructs). the final Depleted moved over to the far right flank to start working on the Dynamite.

Turn 2
The Depleted engaging the Wardens missed with everything, he then pushed backwards a bit towards Taelor. Watcher on the left flank destroyed the first Evidence marker. The first Beckoner blew a kiss at the Pale Rider, tagging him with a wound on Brilliance. One of the Wardens popped The Depleted, who promptly exploded in a mighty showing of destructive force a gave one of the Wardens one wound and Brilliance. HD activated and successfully cast Heed my Voice on the Pale Rider. He charged in, and left the rider sitting on a single wound, HD also took this opportunity to heal himself to full wounds. One Wacther moved up the left flank. Taelor decides to get stuck in just making it into combat with one of the Wardens, The Black Joker pops up. I settle for doing 3 Damage and pushing it back with Melee Expert. The unengaged warden shoots and Paralyses a Beckoner and then moves into contact with Taelor. Lynch moves up to the Pale Rider, misses with the Pistol and then Pushes away. Hoffman and the Wardens drop Taelor to Hard to kill. The second Beckoner kisses the Watcher down to a single wound. The depleted lights the dynamite and then pushes and walks towards the next marker.

Turn 3
I lose the iniative but decide to cheat a soulstone to gain it back. The Proximity of the Wardens and the Pale Rider stays put. Taelor goes first (as she's about to die) and blows away two of the Wardens who do not have Brilliance. The Watcher on the left moves towards Hoffman. HD casts Heed my voice the Warden with Brilliance which comes running. HD then kills the Wardena dn finsihes off the Pale Riderwith Feast or Famine. Hoffman detonates a scrap counter which kills Taelor and backs away. The Paralysed Beckoner activates giving the Damaged Watcher the chance to fly 14" behind a wall. Lynch hands out The Source but is unable to get the Beckoner into a position to target the Watcher.

Turn 4
I win the iniative but then he cheats it off me with a Soulstone and a 13! The Wacther activates and moves to destroy his second Evidence marker. The Beckoner fails to blow a kiss the other Watcher but fails. Hoffman legs it, the Depleted grabs another Dynamite marker and moves towards the 3rd. The other Beckoner moves to sit near the final evidence marker. Lych and HD move to start chasing down Hoffman and the remaining Watcher.

Turn 5
HD eats a Watcher, but is unable to tag Hoffmanwith Brilliance. The Second watcher moves tot eh opposite side fo the Evidence marker from the Beckoner. The Beckoner kisses and kills it, but its Slow to Die ability is used to interact with and Destroy the marker regardless which completes his strategy. (My Bad) To make up for this she moves to my Stake a Claim building. The Depleted activates the 3rd dynamite counter and moves towards the 4th and final. The second Beckoner moves into village to try and reach the Dynamite as well.

Turn 6
The final Dynamite Marker is armed as Hoffman cannot prevent both the Depleted and Beckoner from reaching it.

Score

Lynch
4pts - Line in the Sand
2 pts - Bodyguard
2 pts - Stake a Claim

Hoffman
4pts - Destroy the Evidence
2 pts - Kill Protege
2 pts - Stake a Claim

Draw

Final thought. I forgot that Dead Man's Hand is resisted on Ca not Wp hence me not using it, which thinking back on the game probably could have made things a lot easier for me! The 8-8 Draw was extremely lucky on my part due to a major mistake (or two)

Notes

The claim is represented by a size appropriate puddle next to a pumping station. Terrain is mostly trees and rocky outcroppings with some ruined farmsteads dotted around. The relic was a suitable item looted from my opponents child's dollhouse (in this case a tea pot) which he placed on Colette's BAse, not where I ideally wanted it to be!

Let The Games Begin. . .

Turn 1 (all directions from my Point of View - it's my thread after all!)
Cassandra makes her confidence run, one of the Oiran moves double towards the board centre. McCabe moved up dragging Lune, Guild Hound and Sidir along with his "Keep Up", Colette switches Casandra with the Oiran and then reactivates. Sidir adavances and takes a pot shot at Cassandra which misses and casts Camoflague on himself. Cassandra activates and double moves to a tree and sabotage's it (damn mechanical tree's) The Wastrel with Petrified Feather takes offense at this action and using secret passage pops out and tries to back stab her, which misses and ends her harmless (oops). The Mannequin companions with the Performer and both adavance, performer towards the centre and the mannequin towards Colette. Luna and the hound head up towards McCabe, the second Oiran adavnces towards the Pump Station and the Second Wastrel Secret Passages towards the conjested board centre. Colette reactivates and creates a soulstone before retreating towards her deployment zone.

Turn 2
Cassandra attempts Sublime Performance but fails. She then fails to hit with Breath fire after spending a Soulstone sparing the Wastrel. Sidir moves towards Cassandra and attempts to melle, I flip the Red Joker for the attack but then flip the Black joker for damage, he follows up this fantastic display by camoflaging hiomself again. Mannequin companion activates with Colette, moves to base contact and links. Colette spends to reactivate and switches Cassandra with the Mannequin, pulling Cassandra out of danger. McCabe moves to the Claim Marker. Sidir, Guild Hound and Luna Keep up. McCabe takes a shot at the Mannequin hitting it and catching Casandra inteh net, but missing Colette. McCabe takes a second shot at the Mannequin who pulls the black joker. The Mannequin is caught in the net. Oiran 1 activates and double moves, Wastrel with Strange Metal Blade uses Secret Passage to Oiran 2 and backstabs her for 6 wounds killing her. I then remember what my second scheme is (I'm not good at keeping my eye on the prize lol) Colette retreats with a Mannequin and creates a Soulstone. Guild Hound and Luna double back to circum navigate the pumping station to try and catch Colette. The Performer and Wastrel [PF] head towards the Pumping Station

Turn 3
Colette Disappears Luna, but fails to hit the trigger. She then spends to reactivate and makes a Soulstone. Wastrel with Strange Metal Blade double moves behind a wall, Cassandra Breathes Fire on the Guild Hound, hitting it for 3 Damage. The moral Duel is passed (no jokes about Hot Dogs) McCabe moves up and Net Guns the Mannequin, Kkilling ti and catching Colette. Doing this gives me the first kill towards completing McCabe's scheme. He follows up by casting Stunner, hitting Colette. However, she Blinding Flashes to swap with an Oiran. After a bit of rules checking we decided that the spell fizzles out. Oiran fails to cast lure, tries again but McCabe resists. Sidir moves into contact with the Performer and hits her for 2 wounds. Colette reactives and flee's for the left side ofthe board. Guild Hound charges Colette doing a single wound of damage. Wastrel [PF] finally makes it to the Pump Station Luna re appears and is placed in severe terrain as far from Colette as possible.
.

Turn 4
Cassandra melee's into the Guild Hound and strikes the hound down with two attacks, and then retreats towards her board edge. Luna runs to Colette and tries to steal the Tea Pot (relic) but fails as Luna has no Willpower. Colette Magician Duels Luna twice for 2 wounds and then spends to reactivate. McCabe net guns Oiran 1 and catches Cassandra who flipped the Black Joker in her Dodge ateempt. He then rides up to trample the Oiran but misses. The Oiran casts Lure on (something - I forgot to write it down) but failed (I think). Wastrel [SMB] secret passages to the Oiran and hits her for 1 wound. Tyhe Performer unsuccessfully disengages from Sidir, so instead she Mesmerises him. Sidir fails to cast Empty Magazine, so cast Camoflage on himself again. Colette reactivates and kills Luna with Magicians Duel and creates a Soulstone. Wastrel [PF] secret passages to the Performer and stabs her for another wound.

Turn 5
McCabe netguns Cassandra catching the Oiran as well. The then uses Keep up to move the Wastrel [SMB]. Cassandra Breathes Fire on the Wastrel [PF] flipping the Red Joker (and then the Black Joker for additional damage). She cataches Sidir and McCabe in the blasts, but thanks to Bearskin Armour on McCabe this is ignored. Cassandra re casts killing the Wastrel and catchin the second one in the blast. Wastrel [SMB] stabs the last Oiran, killing her for the second point needed for McCabes scheme. He then shoots Cassandra, getting the Reload...Twice trigger, but only flipping weak damage for 3 wounds and is now paralysed. The Performer fails to hit McCabe with Expensive Gift, so she shoots and kills the now paralysed Wastrel. Sidir then spends his turn failing to kill Cassandra with the Machine Gun. Colette reactivates and makes a soulstone.

Turn 6
McCabe spends his entire turn shooting at Cassandra, finally killing her for the first point needed for Bringing 'Em Back Alive. Colette activates, swaps with the Performer and Disappears Sidir. She then reactivates and heads to the Claim Marker (which I had forgotten about completely) The Performer activates but fails to get within 3" of the marker.

Score

McCabe
Claim Jump - 0vps
Steal Relic - 0vps
Bring 'Em Back Alive - 2vps

Colette
Claim Jump - 4vps
Bodyguard - 2vps
Sabotage - 2vps

Loss

I really do like McCabe but played him very very badly. I failed to organise my Relic Kit around my opponent and in effect relegated himm to the role of Net Gunner and Minion Dragger. The Wastrels are amazing assains, thanks to Secret Passage. If the first attack is set up properly this can casuse great damage to an important model in the opponents crew. My Dogs as Relic Gatheres was a great idea on paper but didn't work in this game.

As for the relics I think that Badge of Speed and Staghorn would have been more effective against Colette.

For those not in the know regarding McCabes rules
Keep Up is a pulse that lets friendly models within 6" push 4" towards McCabe.
Stunner is a spell that inflicts Paralyse on a model that was Slow (I only read this last part when attempting to use the spell for the first time...hence the fizzle)
Camoflage gives +2 Defense ona Friendly Model (including Sidir Himself)

Thanks I was concerned that I wasn't putting enough detail in the mini bat reps but when I did it seems very long winded and clunky

Just hope there is enough explanation for new players to garner some advice from.

NOTE: With McCabe it is VERY important to choose his Relic Cache once you know what you're facing (which I failed to recognise until it was too late - that and several mistakes cost me the game)

I'm off to stay with a Friend in Amsterdam for a few weeks so may have some more Mini Bat Reps to put up soon (I hope) but won't be about for Vassal games :(

Ototo

Opponents Crew

C. Hoffman

Watcher
Ryle
Warden
Guardian
Hunter

Let The Games Begin. . .

Turn 1 (all directions from my Point of View - it's my thread after all!)
The hulking Rail Golem headed straight toward Hoffman's deployment zone, hoping to do some damage and possibly forcing Hoffman to kill it (looking for the Frame for Murder scheme).
The Hunter was quick to react, heading north away from the rail golem. The large rail worker, Kang saw that the Guild crew were moving into the street and sprinted to intercept.
Ryle didn’t like Kang’s aggressive manner and moved up to support the Hunter. As the rest of the Guild crew advanced into Promise’s dusty street, the remaining Ten Thunders moved to block them.
At Hoffman’s prompting, Ryle opened up on Kang with his Gatling gun. Kang took some light damage but was not swayed from his path.

Turn 2
The Warden found itself locked in combat with Kang. The large man lifted his mighty shovel and swatted the Warden as if it was a fly. The Warden was staggered but still standing, leaving it, Kang and The Hunter locked into the most deadly of dances. Kang caught a burst of automatic fire from Ryle’s Gatling gun and dropped to the ground. As a last desperate action Kang lashed out at the Warden turning it in to scrap. Heavy, ringing footsteps reminded Hoffman that the Rail Golem was approaching. He knew he would have to get his constructs out of the street before the metal giant outflanked them. Ototo charged at Ryle, smacking him in the face. Ryle roared in pain but stood his ground. Hoffman and the Hunter moved away from their attackers. The rocky hill at the end of the street blocked further retreat, not that Hoffman had any intention of running. Mei Fang bounced in off the Metal Gamin and with a perfectly formed Jackhammer Kick she pounded Ryle to the ground. As she landed with feline agility she struck a Badass Pose and glared at Hoffman.

Turn 3
The Watcher streaked across the northern edge of town and into the Ten Thunders camp. Aware of the approaching danger, the Hunter dragged Hoffman through a nearby building and out the other side. With its prey moving away from it, the Rail Golem fired up the Pain Train and stormed back towards the rail camp. Out of sight between two buildings it waited for Hoffman’s crew to act, daring them to move toward their goal. Mei Feng hopped, jumped, leapt and lunged, kicking the Mobile Toolkit to pieces. As tools and fragments scattered she saw the glint of something on Hoffman’s belt; something that looked valuable. Such an artifact might be helpful to her future plans and she knew she would have to remove it from Hoffman’s possession.

Turn 4
Mei Feng made a grab for the relic on Hoffman’s belt but he was too quick for her. She was determined to have it and used one of her valuable soulstones to force the issue. With the item in her grasp she bounded away and out of sight. Covering her retreat, Mei Feng sent the Rail Golem around the corner. It swung at the Guild crew gathered there but failed to inflict much damage. Hoffman used his powerful abilities to override control of the Rail Golem. Under his command the iron hulk turned and marched straight back to Mei Feng. It swiped at her but she overcame her surprise in time to dodge aside. Ototo moved into the Guild’s deployment zone. He braced himself and was a threatening presence to anyone who might consider approaching. The Watcher headed back toward the Guild deployment zone hoping to deny Ototo any Turf War points.

Turn 5
The Rail Golem came chugging back around the building for another go at the Guild crew. Mei Feng attempted to spring off the Metal Gamin and over to the where the Guild had come from. Even cheating fate and adding the power of another soulstone she couldn’t escape the grasping claws of the Hunter. Her linked Emberling came to the rescue; it smashed its fist into the ground trying to use seismic shockwaves to push its master closer to her goal of the Guild’s half of town. Hoffman found the Rail Golem “demonstration” was becoming bothersome. With barely a thought he took control of the huge construct again and sent it stalking over to an empty corner of town where it wouldn’t annoy anyone for a while. The Hunter hauled Hoffman over to the rail worker’s camp. He was sure to find the cause of the work delays over there.

Ok so have my next game arranged, a little 30SS tussle and I will attempt to run the following

Ten Thunders Crew - 30 - Scrap

Mei Feng -- 6 Pool
Emberling [2ss]
Kang [8ss]
Rail Golem [9ss]
Rail Worker [5ss]
Rail Worker [5ss]

Not much deviation from the typical Mei Boxset with the Simple addition of the Rail Golem, the matches after will attempt to include Willie, the Demolitionist as all in all I think that the crew can function well without the inclusion of the Metal Gamin, which are great in their own right, however I think that 3 Railwalker points would be enough.

After a few more games with Mei Feng I think that I will look into the possiblity of using her as an Arcanist Master in combination with Kaeris and attempt something along the lines of

Arcanists Crew - 30 - Scrap

Mei Feng -- 7 Pool
Emberling [2ss]
Kaeris [8ss]
Essence of Power [2ss]
Rail Worker [5ss]
Rail Worker [5ss]
Willie, the Demolitionist [6ss]

was considering a single Steampunk Arachnid in place of the Essance of Power but decided the addtional soulstone would be benficial as well as the boost to Kaeris's spells

Cheers for that mate, was beginning to think that I should rename the thread Carpe talks to himself, lol. I originally started this game for Lynch, Graves and Tannen but have quickly fallen for Mei she just has so many tricks and her trigger tree is great when things start coming together.

I have to say I am trying in vain to avoid your resser thread as I really cannot afford to pick up another crew and your Kirai crew looks amazing.

Thanks mate, they still need a couple of additions to maximize the crews potential but I need to get some paint on Yan Lo first!

I have had a few more games since my last Resser post but I just haven't had a chance to put up a BatRep!

I wouldn't worry about the lack of replys on our threads, Malifaux is surprisingly unknown here on dakka!

I do the same, read an article about a mini or boxset and then have to restrain myself from purchasing it. However playing with Mei I think that I have definitely found the Master for me, will wait a few more games and set up the Arcanist thread in the not too distant future
