Subject: Deploying flyers in straight line?

Member of a Lodge? I Can't Say

Hello,
I'm being told by a player that I need to deploy flyers in a straight line, because he's saying "it's impossible because then you could just place them anywhere." Can I please get a reference for this?
Thanks.

Zooming flyers can only move in a straight line (with one turn at the start usually). You pick the direction that they enter the table from, then move them from there.
So yes, they move in a straight line, in the direction of your choice.

Thanks for the response. He's trying to say that I have start at a 90 degree angle from the table edge, so straight forward. That is obviously not correct right?

Nope. You can pick the angle at which you enter, and then move in a straight line from there.

There is no such rule.

You'll find this in the "Zoom" rule (not reserves) if you need to look it up. Page 80 (ish) I think.

You pick a point on the table edge, and move on in a straight line from that point. As long as the flyer ends up with all parts of its hull above the table it is a legal move.

As above. Remember that units do not "deploy" onto the table from Reserve. They MOVE on, as if the table edge were the leading edge of their base (for Walkers and non-vehicle models), or the leading edge of their hull (for non-Walker vehicles). You follow the normal rules for movement when entering. See the Reserve rolls.

That's kind of the point of having an aircraft zoom over the battlefield. Excluding areas that you can't physically stop on, a flyer can end up at pretty much any point on the battlefield the turn it comes in.
Now, it can not zoom off the turn it comes in, so it does have to sit there for a bit.
Zooming flyers at the beginning of their movement phase get to pivot up to 90 degrees to the left or right. Then they have to perform their movement. This applies even when coming from reserves and means that you could park a flyer within an inch of your own board edge. It'll be facing almost completely to the side, but you can do it.

You can enter at a very acute angle to keep them in your backfield as long as they satisfy the zoom movement rule. Although I know of no specific rule, good sportsmanship would dictate that the model should be completely on the table with no bits overhanging a table edge. Mannahnin's answer seems correct but I'd also strive for model to be on completely for fair play.
