I was having a heated debate with my brother (scarletpheonix) about who would eventually become triumphant in the war of the 41st as i like to call it.
My bro thinks tyranids as whenever they kill they get something out of it but i say necrons as they can resort to going underground. Who do you think will win and why?

Sorry if there are tons of threads like thus but i have to know.

It is useless to debate because every faction has their triumph card as it is stated in their codex. The only certain thing is that Imperium will be at pressure like never before, but an empire of such military power that has survived catastrophe like HH and actually recovered is not to be dismissed so easily.

The only one who will definitely not win here are Tau because their empire is too small and thus they will be unable to have any kind of large impact on the fate of the galaxy. They could only win if every other faction is exterminated and they are left alone in the galaxy.

My answer is: none. It's a tie and it will remain so until GW decide to finish 40k one day, and who knows who will they choose as a victor in the end.

Blah blah timeline never advances blah blah it's a setting blah blah gw hates me blah blah.

If you think its a waste of time, why post?

On topic: I'm going for chaos in the long run, I'm backing them due to the ability to see the future ( to a certain extent) and there near endless numbers, traitor chapters and legions and the chaos gods backing.

Chaos.

Their ultimate victory is assured, for the universe will eventually suffer heat death and simply fall apart, devolving back into the primordial chaos from whence it was born.

All who oppose it simply delay the inevitable.

I have right to say my opinion here, no? Even if it's like this.

If you really want to know my bet - Imperium. Because they have Emperor becoming a God then resurrecting as their triumphs card. It will be auto win for the Imperium then.

edit on Chaos: Chaos cannot win at all, because if all factions destroy themselves Chaos will be destroyed too. Legion pretty much told us this.

Well it's certainly not Tyranids. All the Tyranids that exist are already here (pg 28 Codex Tyranids). They haven't won yet, so they're probably not going to.

It's either Orks or Necrons, but probably Necrons. Necrons are basically unstoppable except for two races, Eldar and Orks. Eldar are in no position to fight them again, and would be too busy with Chaos anyway. But Orks are like the Hulk, the more they fight, the stronger they get. If Orks got a big enough Waaagh! going, they'd be unstoppable.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Fair enough captain, you do indeed have the right, just seemed you were trying to poo poo on others having a bit.of fun

Darkness, thats an old quote, the new rulebook confirms that the nids we have seen are just the outer edges of what's coming, I agree that they won't win though, as soon as they are seen as a threat chaos will unite ( again) to wipe them out... Could you imagine that, some massive hive fleet turns up on some god forsaken world, the guard are fighting for there lives and massive warp portals open up and millions of.deamons start attacking the nids, after winning (and wiping out the guard too lol) they disappear only to attack the next world the nids are coming for... Necrons have this one in the bag. If they somehow managed to 'throw the game' then I think Tyranids would eventually devour all, except the Orks... Because they just dont know when to quit.

Ratlings - the overlooked faction

But seriously, opinion ahoy!

I'd say the Imperium or Tau.

The Imperium is still the largest faction, they have the numbers and the faith in their cause, as long as the Emperor lives (or they believe he lives, dun dun duunn!)

Chaos daemons, bless them, have a bigger hatred for each other than the Imperium. The war in the warp is primary, the war in realspace is secondary

Chaos Marines don't have the numbers, even if they have the hate

Necrons can't win as they're no longer unified, but it's not like they can lose either

Tyranids, though dear to my heart, won't win because bugs never win

Eldar and Dark Eldar don't have the numbers or the interest in taking unnecessary risks

Tau could win as they have youth + faith in their cause

Orkz can't win because, while they have the numbers, they're just as dangerous to themselves as to other factions. And we love them for it

All the above is personal biased opinion, naturally

Wait I just read a codex:tyranids article saying that they were running from something or the other. I might be mistaken but then if whatever-it-is can send a massed combination of all the fleets running would whatever-it-is not win in the 41st?

Honestly, Chaos almost always wins. Everytime someone or something dies, Chaos grows stronger. Everytime someone is betrayed, Chaos grows stronger. Every disease, every pact, everything strengthens Chaos.

Now, it's just a matter if the Emperor can come back in time before Chaos gets too strong

Tau win easily. As the only faction that is currently advancing its technology in any meaningful way (and doing so at a pretty impressive rate) they win in the long run. Eventually it will reach a point where a single gun drone can conquer an entire Imperial planet (and effortlessly defeat any attempt to take it back), and automated FTL factory ships can cover the entire galaxy in gun drones.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

No one. It's a system of such far reaching checks on each factions strength that none of them can eventually 'win' barring some extreme change to the universe. (The Emperor waking up, the arrival of a hive fleet a hundred times bigger than any previously seen, a second Heresy, the formation of a fifth Chaos God, etc.)

In the 5th Ed one? I can't seem to find that quote. Page 7 under the Great Devourer title seems to suggest that there are still more approaching from the Galactic Void.

Where on Earth do you get that from? P215 of the rulebook explicitly states that only the vanguard has arrived so far, and that the bulk of the Tyranid forces have not yet reached us.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

I just check both sources and 6'th edition rulebook contradicts 5'th edition Tyranid fluff about this matter.
I think that you are right and that we will definitely see this corrected in next Tyranid codex, I think that GW themselves realised that it is stupid for Leviathan the be the last of Tyranid fleets.

It's like the dude said: page 28, under the Hive Fleet Leviathan there is lien that says: "Last and latest Hive Fleet that enter the galaxy" meaning that Leviathan in the last Tyranid Hive Fleet that just recently came. Many raged about this because Crudance literally brought Tyranids to the edge of extinction in the fluff, with this it will be more interesting. But I doubt that even that 'big' fleet will be bigger than Leviathan already is.

When it says "last and latest that has entered the galaxy" I think it just means that it's the last one that has entered not that it is the last fleet to fleet to enter. It's a race and say leviathan finishes fifth and has been the last to cross the line so far but others still have to finish

My moneys on man kind as I haven't seen any of the others yet

To be honest I think the turning point will be when the Imperial Guard realise they have laser guns and not projectile weapons so don't need to lead shots, take into account trajectory or wind and everyman becomes a vindicare even if they still lack stopping power. The discovery of the effect of magnets on electronics will have a huge effect on the Necron threat; the 'Nids will be a close one they'll push us back to Terra where upon they contract the flu and get wiped out, if it worked for the Martians it will work for them

Orks all the way.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

The Orks plague the galaxy from the end to end with their ceaseless warring and strife. They are a race rooted so deeply in war that peace is utterly incomprehensible to them. They cannot be bargained with or bought save with weapons that they will inevitable turn against those who tried to bribe them. I pray with all my faith that some great catastrophe will annihilate them but I fear that ultimately it is they, not we, who shall rule the galaxy.

Orkz is made fer' two fings! Fightin', and winnin'!

Orkses is never defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!

To me, if another war were to happen, I think the battle would end up as Chaos and Tyranids as the victors, fighting each other. If I'm not wrong, I heard the Tyranids have consumed galaxies worth of planets (up to thirteen I think), and that Tyranids can't enter the Immaterium, which would lead to Chaos staying inside the Immaterium making random hits on Tyranids possibly, and the Tyranids consuming everything and moving on.

Or a miraculous new race comes in and wipes everything out like bugs. Just saying ^.- (not possible -.-)
