Subject: orks have bad posture - i need some help

one of my biggest pet peeves about orks is their legs.
i was hoping someone might be able to give me some ideas on how to make them stand more "normal"?
i like the aobr nobs for this very reason, they stand like a normal person.
i can try converting them or slapping torsos on alternate legs but i cant model my own legs.
any ideas on what to try?

bad posture is part of the Ork speices. Therefore, part of the sculpts in general. Where the torso and legs connect is the overall issue here as your nearly gluing the rear of the torso to the front of the legs unlike other models where they glue bottom to top.

Wow, upright standing Orks look about 10 times more imposing.

@AllSeeingSkink - i couldn't agree more, hence this post
@Viktor von Domm - thanks VVD, this is exactly what im after but ugh... the amount of work involved. unfortunately i also have very unsteady hands. it makes detail work like his extremely hard for me.

Boyz are meant to look like apes. All orks are. Nobz are actually still hunched over, it's just that they're bigger. If you want an "upright boy," you'll have to break his back. In the previously posted thread, there's a shot where the upright boy is next to an AOBR nob, and they're pretty much the same size.

You are probably better off just getting alternative ork models than attempting to modify 60ish GW models.

well... you could always opt for only converting some... this would help you to mix up the lot... and with a good saw and some LGS you would be set up easy...
best of luck!

They're much the same size, but I just feel the upright one looks more imposing than the hunched ones. I think it's the legs more than anything, Ork legs have always looked off and a bit silly to me. They look like the legs of a gorilla, I get that... but gorillas knuckle walk, Orks don't, it just looks unnatural. Even then, they don't just look like gorilla legs, the angles look like exaggerated gorilla legs.
As for converting your own orks to look like that. It's going to take you forever, and for metal orks or even just plastic/resin orks with a lot of detail around their legs, it may be damned near impossible (if not impossible, extremely difficult). If you could do it, I'd applaud you though

if you want upright orks, save urself the trouble and go get mantic marauders. saves alot of time, effort and money, only bad thing about those things is how their heads are so damn small

i was looking at those novelist, do you happen to own any?
i was wondering how they look side by side with a GW ork.
i already have a bunch of mantic forgefathers so its not out of the realm of possibility to grab a dual box

Marauder Grunts are about as tall as a Nob, sans spiky bits, meaning they're also roughly the height of an upright Boy. Being on the "true-scale" side of the spectrum, though, the limbs are much weedier. They can work on their own, but they don't mix with GW very well, at least in my opinion. A cursory Google image search only netted a few direct Mantic to GW comparisons, only one of which was actually orc to orc. They're both fantasy versions, though, with the Mantic model being distinctly more hunched over (and, therefore, shorter) than the few Marauders I have. The discrepancy is more pronounced when comparing Warpath and 40K models.

That's the thing though, in the current codex Orks are described as walking with their knuckles almost brushing the ground, and being more ape-like than man-like. Plus, the silly look is part of the fact that the Orks are the comedy army of 40K. Until the SoB were turned into sissies.

They're described as that, but the actual model are carrying guns/axes/shields, which is why I think it looks unnatural

True, but have one weapon facing downwards and it's better. Or make shoota boyz.

Not only do they have bad posture, their grammar is atrocious!
And their penmanship! Don't get me started on their penmanship!
OK, seriously:
I would look at the Kromlech ork legs. They have running legs, and kneeling legs. Especially if you mix them up, I think these might help you some. Also, as much as I like storag's orks, they are a lot of work. However, you might notice that he also 'poses' his orks a lot, with legs up on rocks, etc.
With a combination of different legs, and some different poses, you might be able to get your orks to have a little less 'silly walk' syndrome. I like the way they look, myself, but to each his own.
