So what is everyone's favorite greater daemons with the new codex? I love the bloodthirster but the Lord of Change just seems so much better. Rerolls with divination, str 8 with the staff, reroll 1's for armour saves, the thing is just tougher and stronger. What are your experiences with the rest of the GD's?

My personal favorite would be the Lord of Change with a Lesser Gift and 2 Greater Gifts, though I wouldn't mind the other Greater Daemons as well.

The Bloodthirster and Lord of Change are fairly survivable mostly because of their access to daemonic flight right off the bat and they keep up well with the rest of the army that isn't troops.

For the Great Unclean One and the Keeper of Secrets, I prefer to just deepstrike them in after everyone else advances forward. The Great Unclean One should have all Biomancy as his powers. The Keeper of Secrets could go with the Lash of Despair as a bit of anti-transport.

Great Unclean One with 3 levels of Biomancy, 1 Greater Reward and 1 Exalted Reward.

Munches through the other Greater Daemons because he is the only one with access to Eternal Warrior and certain access to Instant Death.

Take an Exalted Reward because it adds a lot of versatility to the army. And the GUO doesn't need any more help staying alive.

Take a Comms Relay and a couple of units with Musicians and Icons to ensure he arrives as soon as possible.

Yeah seriously. Take a GUO with exalted reward (grimoire of true names), and a greater reward(insta-death attacks with balesword), mastery level 3 and stick him in the middle of the board in area terrain. Force multiplier galore. So ridiculous it's nasty. I would deep strike him there though. Then middle of the game, advance him up, and watch him wreak havoc on any unit in his way.

People underestimate the power of insta-death attacks, especially on something that ******* tough. Make him your warlord and your opponent will be hardpressed to get anywhere near to killing him. Never give up slay the warlord.

I think he is best fit to be backed up by a Daemon Prince bare with wings, power armour, and balesword as a heavy choice. Much much faster and quicker to units that don't need the GUO's attention. Anything he can't kill, the GUO can easily.

Other than that, I'm not too keen on the KoS and LoC. Bloodthirster is still a killing machine's killing machine. Nothing too special though. KoS is too fragile. even though he is T6 and W5, he only has a 5+ save. mass autocannons and other S6+ shooting will take him down in a turn. LoC and Bloodthirster are more survivable, but i don't think the LoC will be too worth it honestly.

Mine is also the Great Unclean One. His toughness, wounds, and shrouding make him a beast. With biomancy he is heard to touch. I just move him up the center and the amount of guns he takes instead of my infantry will make up his points. Flying is dandy but one bad die roll they fall and typically a goner. GUO in a building with a 2+ cover is obnoxious.

My second is the lord of change just cause he looks cool.

I can't get over the brute force of the 'thirster. Such good stats, and the chance for instant-deaths without relying on 2x S.

I'm liking the GUO as lvl 3 and a lesser reward (the plague flail). It's points effective, has a great chance to iron arm or endurance and with the plague flail is even stronger against high toughness or mutli wound enemies. With good rolls on the biomancy table I don't see the need to try for greater rewards so I think it saves points that way.

Why not spend an extra 10 points on him and make all of his enemies (that aren't EW) just outright die without having to test for it?

People underestimate the power of ID, especially on MCs that can bypass armour. It's kinda Crazy... Thing about that combo is, the MC is so hard to kill it's stupid.

Humm good point, I hadn't thought about killin a tervigon in one swipe or destroying a unit of paladins in a combat.

Best way to kit him out would be to give him mastery level 3, two greater rewards (as i think they are better than the exalted rewards for the GUO), and maybe a lesser thrown in there for the +1 Attack.

Comes out to 280 points for a very survivable (4 out of the 6 greater rewards will make the GUO more survivable) and killy warlord. He can also buff and de-buff units, which is also really nice. His ML3 on biomancy does wonders for him
