Hi Dakkians!
I normally lurk this forum to fulfill my Warhammer 40k addiction but today I've started a new project! The project is Hive Fleet Kracken. I just completed a ripper and my basing for it in its lava theme (I know its been done but I do love the look). I'm not a terribly skilled painter mostly from a genetic disorder that causes my hand to shake but I was wondering if there was any tips or tricks that I could do differently or improve upon with this paint scheme. As a pre-warning, I know it's only a ripper which wont show too much towards my painting of the hive fleet but surprisingly all the techniques I'm going to use on every other nid will be the same as what I did on the ripper I think and the base is larger so I hope it showed how I attempted to do lava sufficiently. So without further wait this is what I've got so far:
One note is the lava isn't too "shiny", would it look better if it was and is there anything i can put on it to do that?
Any and all review is welcome, thanks again!

The model looks really good. The paint inst too thick and the rock on the base is spot on.
As to critic I would bring the orange parts of your lava up to a bit more red at the edges.
For making the lava more "shiny" if your looking to make it more of a fluid you can use a gloss coat or even use a gloss medium mixed with your paint (which would look better than just putting a coat over it).

Throw an orange glaze over that lava.
It will help blend your layers together a little bit better and make the transitions smoother, you can still kind of see distinct layer outlines.
Otherwise, you nailed the paint scheme. I like my bugs with some streaking on the carapace as it makes them a bit less dull, but its personal preference.

I'm newish to here, how would I upload to the Dakka Gallery? Also, thanks on the glaze advice, I like that idea and will put it into effect when I'm able to sneak by my FLGS. as for streaking, if you're referring to the lines that would go from the head or the tops of the carapace down the back, I would attempt them but I don't think I could pull them off very well. Do you normally do the streaks in the same color as the highlighting?

I'd use some fluorescent paints in your lava, just to get the pop. It won't show up well in your pictures, but in person it'll be noticeable.
Then again, I love fluoro paints.

When you're looking at the top of any page on dakka, you should see something that says, "Gallery" click that and you'll see a link that says, "upload your wargaming photos" from there you can upload them to your dakka gallery.
