PETA to Hit Starcraft Launch With 'Zerglings Have Feelings, Too' Message
Group Encourages Gamers to Have a 'Heart for the Swarm'

For Immediate Release:
March 13, 2013

Contact:
Sophia Charchuk 202-483-7382

Irvine, Calif. -- StarCraft players lining up for the launch of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm will get a new perspective on the game's arthropodal extraterrestrials, the Zerg, courtesy of PETA—or, as the group is renaming itself in honor of the expansion pack's launch, "Terrans for the Ethical Treatment of Zerglings." The group will attend Monday evening's launch event in Irvine and distribute copies of its "Zerglings Have Feelings, Too" leaflets as a lighthearted reminder that gamers and nongamers alike should have compassion for all beings—even those who are different from us.

When: Monday, March 11, 9 p.m.

Where: GameStop, by the fountain at the Giant Wheel Court at Irvine Spectrum Mall, 71 Fortune Dr. (near the intersection with Pacifica), Irvine

"To paraphrase a great philosopher, the question is not 'Can Zerg reason?' nor 'Can they talk?' but 'Can they suffer when attacked with a Perdition flamethrower?'" says PETA Director of Marketing Joel Bartlett. "PETA is full of StarCraft players, but we've always had empathy for the Zerg—and for anyone who is killed without consideration because they don't speak our language."

Like the Zerg, many species on Earth are killed or abused simply because Terrans can't or won't understand them. Some are caged, poisoned, and cut up in cruel experiments. Others are chained and beaten into performing tricks for Terrans' amusement, and more are slaughtered en masse so that Terrans can eat them. PETA encourages everyone to greet all living beings with kindness, not violence.

Shouldnt peta be happy we are hunting and mistreating virtual animals? Afterall AFAIK there is no link between Vidjagame violence and real violence

Also zerg are not at all comparable to terrestrial animals.(basing this off the fact they are tyranid ripoffs btw. I don't know SC lore) They are organic weapons controlled by a fully self concious, and homicidal, hive mind. Any cruelty and murdering of them is done purely in self defense by the virtual terran/protoss soldiers.

Are you expecting rationality from the group responsible for;
- the Superbowl veggie sex ad
- trying to rebrand fish as "sea kittens"
- "Unhappy Meals" handed out to children outside McDonalds, complete with crazed knife weilding clowns and fake blood splatter
- handing out comic books to kids called "Your Mommy Kills Animals", that contained graphic mages of skinned animals with tag lines like "Do you have a puppy you take for walks or play ball with? Or a kitty who likes to chase string? How would you feel if someone took away your kitty or puppy, stomped on their head and ripped the skin off their bodies? One of those terrible people is your mommy. Your mommy kills animals! "
- the gravestone placed in the plot beside Col. Sander's remains protesting KFC
- trying to link milk with autism
- a public psuedo BDSM to protest whips and chains being used on cows (seems fine to use them on people though )
- the naked woman barbecue
- writing to Ben & Jerry's asking them to use human milk instead of cow's milk in their ice cream
- using images of celebrities without their consent to endorse their campaigns
- their leader's will (she wants to donate her body to “alleviate animal suffering” and also “draws attention to needless animal suffering and exploitation.” She claims that she wants the “meat” of her body, or at least a portion of it to be barbecued, her skin taken off and made into leather items, such as purses and shoes, her legs cut off and used as umbrella stands, her eyes taken out and delivered to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, her index finger by removed and given to Kenneth Feld, the owner of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and numerous other odd requests. - http://www.peta.org/features/Ingrid-Newkirks-Unique-Will.aspx )
- comparing meat eaters with Jeffrey Dahmers
- providing financial support for eco-terrorists (Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front). The FBI estimates that these groups have committed more than 600 criminal acts in the United States since 1996, resulting in damages in excess of $43 million.
- using the images of the Holocaust to equate meat eaters with Nazis, and Jews with animals killed for food
- comparing the American Kennel Club with the KKK

Hell's Bells, I've heard of that, but I didn't know they went that far.

My hatred of them has escalated by approximately 85%

You left out the part where they want to ban pets, and they kill many "liberated" animals to end their "suffering."

PETA have done so many stupid stunts that I had to go and Google them because the rational part of my brain wanted to block out the crazy
I think their shelters have a 90-95% kill rate. Good thing they are sticking up for the animals eh? My wife and I, and her Mum have all taken in animals from local no kill shelters (including a disabled dog, and one that was horribly abused) and I'd much rather support those that the nasty headline-grabbing-publicity-stunt-wh*ring-group that is PETA. Of course a friend signed me up to receive their newsletters and I'm having fun getting off their mailing list. I've tried emails and in the last one I just said that I don't agree with them and never will. If they keep insisting on sending more junk mail I'll just have to be even blunter.

I completely agree - I think it's all/any birds.
They'll eat anything that will fit in their beak.

My budgies give me funny looks sometimes. The give me a chew every now and then too, just to see if I'm made of seed. On the day I turn into seed...

I'll be eating pan fried budgie. No point taking any chances

PETA is a circus. Slow-in-mind monkeys playing with their poo. Seriously. They went from animal-friendly to hating each and every human in existence and nobody takes these guys seriously anymore. Bunch of oxygen thieves.

You are aware that terrorbirds were a thing right? We already passed the giant man eating chicken phase.

As for PETA. It's a detestable organization that tries to hold a public image of helping and saving animals while doing everything they can to exterminate pets.

Yeah, I'm aware , but the man eating chicken part of this was so much better than actual P.E.T.A

Their slogan is
"animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment"

I've done all of those. I think we probably nearly all have.

PETA is not for animals, merely the ethical treatment of animals. So you are allowed to kill whatever animal you like as long as it's done humanely.

Then you get stuff like this
PETA was further criticized in 2005 by United States Senator Jim Inhofe for having given grants several years earlier to Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and Earth Liberation Front (ELF) activists, two groups that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has identified as agents of domestic terrorism.
PETA responded that it has no involvement in ALF or ELF actions and does not support violence, though Ingrid Newkirk (PETA leader) has elsewhere made clear that she supports the removal of animals from laboratories and other facilities, including as a result of illegal direct action.
Some campaigns have been particularly controversial. Newkirk was criticized in 2003 for sending a letter to PLO leader Yasser Arafat asking him to keep animals out of the conflict, after a donkey was blown up during an attack in Jerusalem.
When the mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2000, PETA ran a photograph of him with a white mustache and the words "Got prostate cancer?" to illustrate their claim that dairy products contribute to cancer, an ad that caused an outcry in the United States.

I have a problem with any group that starts putting welfare of people last.

At which point man eating chickens are far more fun

I love the way zerglings burst into bloody puddles when you pump them full of lead.

PETA would just be another internet failtroll if people stopped giving them attention.

This made me laugh.

In February 1995, a parody website calling itself "People Eating Tasty Animals" registered the domain name "peta.org". PETA sued, claiming trademark violation, and won the suit in 2001. While still engaged in legal proceedings over "peta.org", PETA themselves registered the domains "ringlingbrothers.com" and "voguemagazine.com", using the sites to accuse Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and Vogue of animal cruelty. PETA later surrendered the domains under threat of similar legal action over trademark infringement.

We tried ignoring PETA, but that didn't work. So we've decided to let them continue as a source of entertainment.

PETA's leadership... I mean honestly when you add up all the psychotic crap they do and say, you have to wonder how out of touch with reality they are.

I thought 'PETA Parody' was pretty clear in the picture though it seems nobody seems to get it. It was in the freaking title picture ffs. Learn to read before you post.

And a quick google will tell you that this is real because It's on peta's own website. It's like you people don't have internet.

Wow this is real?! I didn't think anybody could make anything so stupid. It's hard to want to hug a ravenous beast that only desires to kill and harvest biomass for the swarm. It's not like they're friendly to us esp. if you get infested or get eggs crapped into you.

Also sorry i was gonna edit my post but i was too tired and didn't really give a f*ck. Of course i'm sure i'd get flak for that as i was a bit annoyed when writing it.

PETA has become a parody of itself. The really strange thing is they seem to have deliberatly done this. At least, it appears intentional.

PETA is unfortunate, as their antics often distract from real, honest to Emperor animal rights arguments.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Donate to the World Wildlife Foundation, ASPCA, your local animal shelter/zoo directly, and for slightly more out there radical global approach with a total environmental focus Greenpeace is a good group.

It's funny everytime I talk to a Greenpeace canvasser we end up talking about hunting and how much we enjoy it.

I love the little pictures animal activists pass out of cute little piglets. I love pigs, they're cute and personable, you get to have them for 6-7 months, and then you get to have them for another 6-7 months in the freezer. The perfect animal, lovable no matter what form they're in.
