Hello this is another thread confirming my suspicious on hitting flyers with PP. so here's the deal, I was playing a double match my partner taking necrons and having some night scythes. So my opponent takes a daemon prince of tzeench and uses a beam phsycic power that hits the flyer now being the nice team my partner and I were we decided to just leave the rule discussion as our opponent was very *cough* 'aggressive'. So he blew up all 3 scythes with his power. My question is can he do this. Flyers can only be hit by SNAP SHOTS and from what I've read even if the deamon prince is flying, a beam cannot hit the flyer as it is and cannot be a snapshot. The only thing that might be a variable is whether the flyer or deamon prince is swooping/zooming.
Thanks for reading

A flying (and swooping) daemon prince has skyfire, thus meaning it can fire normally against it, no?

a FMC can shoot PPs at flyers as long as they are not any form of template, blast, large blast, beam, anything else that does not require a to hit roll. So in short your opponent would not have hit or destroyed any of the flyers with the beam ability.

Ah but even so skyfire does not allow you to hit the flyer with any form Of template

Not that a Beam is a "template" for the purposes of the 40k rules. We need to bear in mind that's the teardrop-thing, because it has a number of special rules and properties which don't apply to blasts, beams, lines, (etc).
But yeah, any kind of shooting attack which uses a template, blast, line, beam, maelstrom, nova, automatically hits, doesn't have to roll to hit, or generally uses any other mechanism than Snap Shooting, can't be used on a Zooming Flyer (Hovering is fair game) or a Swooping FMC. And having Skyfire makes no difference, as the Doom Scythe's Death Ray is specifically called out as an example.

Mannahnin is correct. For the OP's reference, this question is addressed near the beginning of the questions section of the BRB FAQ.
