Anyone watching this? I've watched the first three episodes and its interesting.

Spoiler:
I love when the Vikings and Brits meet, both speaking an approximation of their language at the time). Norse, vs. Angle. Interesting!

I LOVE THIS OPENING!!!

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Watched the 1st two episodes, loving it. Will try and watch the 3rd one tonight. Awesome intro and the scene with Odin in the 1st episode sent a shiver down my spine. Gotta say that the guy who plays Ragnar reminds me of Alexander Skarsgard. Thought he was his brother as there is a Gustaf Skarsgard on the cast, turns out he plays Floki though

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Yep all the blond gals have long Scandinavian names.

You'll like the one this week, no spoiler but the scene between the Norse and "others" is humorous, as the others are like "chill brohams"
It strikes me as a good example of how two cultures would meet. Substitute nationalities and it could be a whole lot of meetings in the past.
Spoiler:
This one replicates one of the first meetings, when the vikings were met by the local sheriff

It's good but the camera work kind of irks me. The lighting and stuff I mean. It seems so much like they were making a documentary.

But I like it. It's interesting so far.

Historical drama. It details the tale of a ragtag fleet on a lonely quest, for a place called...earth. Oh wait, no this one is about er...Vikings and their first voyages west.

I am quite enjoying it so far its shaping up to be a rather nice show.

Its not to bad from a Historical perspective either. Though Ragnar was a Danish rather than Norwegian Viking, not a lot of Fjords in Denmark. Giving Ragnar and some of the other Vikings Norman hair cuts is an interesting touch.

The show is really good. Just got done watching episode 4. I think It was partially made to capitalize on the success of Game of Thrones. Not the same plot or era at all, but you know, gritty medieval show. Anyhow, Vikings is really well done and if I remember correctly most of it is based on true events (mixed in with some legends and whatnot). Good show

This show's about Ragnar? Of all the vikings they could've done, they did him? I thought it was going to be about Leif Ericson based on the commercials. Aw well. He may not be my favourite but I guess they wanted to capture the archetypal viking in their series.

So what, it's going to be about him going to Paris and trashing the place?

Well it seems wildly fictionalised and not based on the saga at all - Ragnar raids Lindisfarne!

except that the first ever recorded Viking raid (recorded by written record that is) does take place at Lindisfarne, and IIRC, the leader of the Vikings to do that was indeed a Ragnar Lodebroke (sp)

But yes, it's a pretty good historical drama, but I would not really call it completely true to history. Also seems somewhat odd that they begin the story with a lead up to Lindisfarne, instead of having it be a sort of season finale type event... *shrugs* still, when I get to watch it, it's a good bit of fun.

That's not quite what I meant.

Ragnar Lodbrok was a character from the Saga of Ragnar. He sacked Paris in 845 AD - more than 45 years after the sack of Lindisfarne!

He'd be ancient by the time he'd sack Paris!

I think they are doing the Ragnar storyline as a rubrik to show the history of the early viking raids.

Makes me suspect then that the last scene in the show will be Ragnar being executed in Northumbria and him saying something like "oh, I'm just the beginning" and then it'll cut to Ivar leading a massive army of vikings towards Britain.

Or alternatively, cut forward a few centuries and William lands with that wacky band of funloving hippies...

Damnit Frazz. Now I want a sequel series titled Normans. And I'm not talking those panzies from Normandy. I want Bohemond.

We'd need a better title. Irish Fighting the English sound's like an episode of Celebrity Deathmatch.
