I started playing warmahordes last summer after not playing anything for long time.
I have a sizeable Warhammer collection going back to 3rd Ed and some 40k stuff. I can't really see myself playing WFB anymore but i do prefer the fluff and world to warmahordes and really like most of my models. I love the GW plastics too, but the metal is a joke its so overpriced.

Anyway i was thinking that rather proxying lots of figures (have done some - but would rather have proper figs) i could write hordes stats for my armies.

e.g. For my chaos, i have models which would work as warlocks, units, solos, UA and would use Greater Daemons as warbeasts.
Likewise for my skaven. Unfortunately most of my other armies do not have monsters so i have no warbeast/jack analogs.

I could get stats/points from existing models, and since they wouldn't be used outside of my group balance wouldn't matter - its just for fun and so i can use the models.

so the question - anyone seen or done anything like this?

While i have found 20+ custom army lists for warhammer i was surprised i could find nothing for warmahordes at all.

cheers

you mean proxy a warmachine army with WFb models?

Or shoehorn a WFB army into the iron kingdoms and bodge your own stats?

yes to the former, and no to the latter. and no offense, but in my experience fan-made, and fan-designed offerings (despite seemingly the best of intentions) are typically badly designed, poorly thought out and even more horribly balanced.

that said, i did see (ages ago) a few guys on the PPboards talking about a WMH port for 40k. dont know how successful it was though.

The latter.
I have worked out figures to use as proxies...but prefer not to.

I just fancied using my warhammer models, which i love, with a system i prefer.

In a friendly game I would play against it.

I can't see a TO allowing it in a tournament, and here is why:

1. Tournaments have timed turns/ death clock and it for WM/H models need to be easily recognizable for what they are.

2. PP still sponsors the tournaments and requires the models to be I think 50% original (might be higher like 80% but I don't remember)

Now with 100% more blog....

wouldnt matter to me im afraid. I wouldnt play against it, or try to do it, personally. I've seen too many poorly designed and badly thought out homebrews. especally since a lot of things from WFB dont really fit into the iron kingdoms - no lizardmen (we do gatormen), no orks (we do pork instead), no skaven, no chaos, our tharn are lionmen in a temporary beastmode, rather than permanent goatmen, and ogryns dont really have a faction. Beyond that you're bastardising one of your factions in the process of bastardising it into another setting. Doesnt do either any favours.

now, proxy your necrons as a cryx army with a lord being gaspy and necrons being banes and im game. but giving them your own rules? Nah, sorry mate. I have issues with home made warcasters, let alone home made armies!

Like i said, i've seen some people talk about porting 40k over to using the WMH system, but i dont lknow if it worked or not. probably not - its a hell of a job for no reward.

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as the base size is right.

Base sizes play a HUGE role in Warmahordes gameplay, they determine LOS, what can or cannot trample/be trampled, what can push, what can be thrown, etc. etc.

So as long as you can put all the models you want to proxy on round 30, 40, 50, or 120 mm sized bases, they will be accepted.

With that said, I shall back away slowly and ominously and disappear in a puff of smoke, then smuggle some fruit across the border in order to stay competitive with the veggie cartel.

I'd be fine with playing against a homebrew force once in a while. I enjoy a change of pace and its all in good fun. I like to fancy myself a bit of an armchair commentator on game design it could be fun to see someone's development process on the project.

Ill agree.

OP, it might also be easier to do on your end if your hunted for things in the WM/H universe whose size/stats make good fits for your WHFB minis. You would end up pulling from several different armies, but it would save you some guess work and stat creation time.

Ill also second the thought of not even trying it in any type of structured WM/H environment. I asked about converting a colossal from one army to fit as the colossal from another, and I was told it likely wouldnt fly very well. Seems official PP events, and even many players are very, very strict on using the correct models. While I understand the idea behind it, I find it kinda sad as I really like to convert and modify my minis. It did kinda help me in getting my Cygnar done though, and it was a matter of build and paint, and I didnt get distracted with small modifications.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

It would be possible to sub in models to make a list, to an extent. However, to make a fully home brewed faction... well, I don't really think it will work as well as you hope. The balance of factions is pretty finely tuned, and the amount of synergy between warcasters and their armies would really make it hard to make a balanced and fun army, considering that a single model or even access to a single spell or ability can completely change how a faction plays. You might be able to find that balance yourself, but it won't be without an excessive amount of fine tuning.

As for opponents, it would really depend on if your friends are OK playing against it, as I don't think you'll find many other players willing to play against a full homebrew list (but the same is true of 40k/fantasy as well). I would suggest that simply using your models as subs for an existing army would probably be the best option, but if you're set on homebrewing an army, go for it, and have fun
