Helloo,

I was wondering since in the new codex books flakk missiles are an upgrade for most missile launchers.

Has anyone got any established rules they use to allow old codex units to upgrade to be carrying flakk missiles for x points so they are not underpowered in that way?

Seems unfair that an IG army with missile launchers and flyers vs a csm or DA army with missile launchers (flakk) and flyers should suffer simply because the codex is outdated.

Anyone else dealt with this and come up with a solution?

GW could fix it with an Errata. However, they won't for whatever reason.

You'll either have to house rule it (+10 points for Skyfire) or just wait.

An IG army is not at an unfair disadvantage against any new book. They may faq it into the other SM codexes like they did the stormshield. But no Flakk missiles yet for anyone not in a hardback book.

They've "fixed" it just fine with the errata documents.

Q:Which missile launchers have access to flakk missiles?
(p57/415)
A: Only those that specifically have an option to take them
as an upgrade in their army list.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Playing Necrons against my friends Eldar out of the 5 times I have fielded flyers they have been taken out 4 of those times by units without skyfire. IG is hardly at a disadvantage when they have so many shots that can be fired.

ADD causes my posts to ramble from time to time. Please bear with me.

I obviously meant that they should have given them to the other chapters.

And you won't field them because they are expensive as hell and are S7 AP4 just like any other autocannon

And only one shot. Yeah, that's the kicker, I suppose. I might toss one in some random tactical squads that I'll combat squad, but putting them in Devastator squads would be too pricey.

I think this would work fine for Imperial armies like marines and guard, but for armies that don't have missile launchers for example sisters of battle, something else is needed.

Therefore, for each army, I would suggest the following weapons/units get skyfire added to them:

SM/BA/SW/BT: Flakk Missiles for Devastators/Long Fangs (Tac squads in the case of Templars as they don't have Devs)
Whirlwinds get Skyfire?

GK: No idea to be honest, as army wide Psycannons with Skyfire would be ridiculous. Maybe only on Purgation squads as another use of their Astral Aim power (but not ignoring jink saves as well, that would be stupid).

IG: Flakk Missiles for Veterans/Heavy Weapon Squads
Hydras get Skyfire if they don't have it already

SOB: Exorcist gets Skyfire (points upgrade needed)

Eldar: EML gets Skyfire option plus swooping hawks gain the ability to assault zooming fliers with haywire grenades and their interceptor skill (the rule even has the right name!)

Dark Eldar: Not sure on this one as their main anti tank is dark lances but army wide skyfire on those would be OP.

Maybe only on ravagers/trueborn and maybe scourges can assault fliers with haywire like swooping hawks?

Tyranids: Give Hive Guard Skyfire for a point cost (+10 per model). Maybe the Tyrannofex Rupture Cannon?

Orks: Not sure they need it when they have Lootas with massive amounts of shots (and I definately wouldn't give it to them) but I would say maybe Flash Gitz or Tankbustas to encourage players to use them (could be the new rule for their Gitfindas). Their guns would probably need a strength boost to make it worthwhile though.

Necrons: They definately don't need it with Gauss glancing all over the place but if I was pushed I would maybe consider Destroyers for it as I believe they are not a widely used unit in the new codex. Although Skyfire with Preferred Enemy would be brutal (points boost needed)!

Tau: They are rumoured to be getting Skyfire on Broadsides and Skyrays in the new codex so that will be plenty if it happens. If not maybe consider adding it to markerlights as one of their effects?

I think that is all the armies covered! Thoughts people?

I think
Spoiler:
this would go better in Proposed Rules[.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

How about none of that because Skyfire isn't as required as people make it out to be?

Why would you give IG Skyfire anywhere but where they already have it - the Hydra and the cheapest triple TL lascannons in the game?

But yes, should be in proposed rules.

I don't think it is that skyfire is required it is more than some armies have options for it now and most don't.

I was just brainstorming a couple of ideas for each race to get it in the waiting time until their next codex.

I am not familiar with the IG codex so don't know how cheap their lascannons are (I assume you are referring to the vendetta?).

Ok if the hydra already has skyfire let them stick with that.

Can a MOD please move this post to proposed rules, to be honest I didn't look at which forum it was in when I replied to it.
