Hi guys,

At my LGC I have 6-7 regular players who all have several crews and are happy playing the game with little to no rule discussion. However I seem to have got a few people interested in the game and so (as part of my application for Henchman Status) have thought that I'd set up a New Players League for myself (so i can start a new master) and the 3 other players.

For these games I'm looking at making a series of 25SS lists using primarily the Starter Boxes with the addition of a totem (or two depending on master) and a single blister to keep the cost small so here is what I have so far.

Ramos - Cache 2 SS (Me)
Mobile Toolkit - 3ss
Steamborg Executioner - 10ss
Steampunk Arachnid Swarm - 9ss
Steampunk Arachnid - 3ss

Seamus, the Mad-Hatter - Cache 7SS
Copycat Killer - 2ss
Madame Sybelle - 6ss
Rotten Belle - 4ss
Rotten Belle - 4ss
Rotten Belle - 4ss

Sonnia Criid - Cache 6SS
Samuel Hopkins - 8ss
Witchling Handler - 7ss
Witchling Stalker - 4ss
Witchling Stalker - 4ss

Pandora - Cache 5SS
Primordial Magic - 2ss
Baby Kade - 6ss
Candy - 8ss
Sorrow - 3ss
Sorrow - 3ss
Sorrow - 3ss

So have a nice mix of crews and factions for the newer players which hopefully should lead to a fairly balanced league plus each of the players seems genuinely interested in at least trying out each of the crews for a few games before making a decision. It also helps that I'd only need to pick up a small selection of models and if all goes well can offload them fairly soon to purchase more to try this again in a little while.

If anyone has anything that they can recommend on any of the crews (particulaly Seamus and Sonnia) that would be greatly appreciated

Jackob Lynch - Cache 5SS
Hungering Darkness (off table)
Beckoner - 5ss
Beckoner - 5ss
The Depleted - 4ss
The Depleted - 4ss
The Illuminated - 6ss

and Collodi

Collodi - Cache 1SS
Weaver Widow - 9ss
Stitched Together - 5ss
Stitched Together - 5ss
Brutal Effigy - 4ss
Marionette - 2ss
Marionette - 2ss
Marionette - 2ss
Marionette - 2ss

Incase someone fancies running something a little differnet and allow me to play something other then Ramos (as I'm looking at Ramos and Mei in Brawls)

I would look at the SoCal Malifaux's 1 Day Achievement League rules, as well as taking the Achievement League Rules from the Dead of Winter Campaign.

Achievement leagues work great for beginners and non-beginners because it forces players to play in a way that doesn't always rely on wins and loses, which is a good thing to keep the older players interested, as they might just faceroll the newer players.

Something that I did was a slow grow league, with teams. One team was the good guys and the other was the bad guys. Each week you could play anyone, or someone from the other team (depended on the week). I had preset missions, and at the end, I gave out prizes.

Edit: Found the document

It's attached if you want to use it, feel free to tweak w/e you want.

Thanks i'll have a look into those once I am at home so I can bypass this stupid firewall that I have to put up with at work. The older players are in the midst of their own games at the moment (I was away on holiday so couldn't join in) so would be nice to play some pick up and play/demo games

The initial idea was to get the newer members used to how Malifaux plays as they're all from GW backgrounds so Malifaux plays a little different (alternate activations being the main one) and that should give me some time to actively plan the league as I was thinking about a narrative based map campaign but not entirely sure how well that'd work for Malifaux.

Plus it'd be nice for me as I'm fairly new to the game myself so I wont have to keep playing people who have had crews since day 1 book release (damn Dreamer) plus I seemt o constantly be running campiagns and tournaments so a small scale one would be a nice change of pace (not sat waiting for 3-4 hours for one game to finish like some of the WHFB games have lasted)

If you want to run a narrative based map campaign, I think there was someone on Wyrd's forums planning out how to do this.

Also, if you look at the Dead Heat Summer Campaign, that was a map based campaign, albeit without the narrative.

I've bookmarked the Dead Heat Campaign to read at homenow just got to go about magnetising the Steampunk Arachnid Swarms that come in Ramos' boxset which may take a little while, also have a load of terrain schematics that I have to try and see if they fit the scale so may have to set up a project log somewhere
