I know this tread isn't going to do much good, but I just want to vent on how badly I want to play this game. The figures are ten times better than anything I've seen from GW or PP. I'm thinking of picking up a starter just to paint them. Sadly, after browsing through the Find a Game section, closest person to me is about 4 hours away. So indulge me a little bit, how does this game play compared to say 40k or Warmahordes? It sure as hell has them beat on sculpts.

Sometimes them's the breaks of playing an game that's bitnoff the beaten path. Sounds like its time to buy some extra pieces and start recruiting.

sorry... stupid touchscreens...

Have you tried the player DB on the Infinity site?

If you got some gamer friends, try to sell them on the game.

The main advantage Infinity has over, for example, War40K is that even in the other player's turn you still get to make decisions.

For example: You move with one of your Keisotsu toward the enemy. He spots you with a Kazak of his. Now, he has to make a decision: either he tries outshooting you (it is his reactive turn, so he is only using 1 die, even though his gun usually uses 3), or he dodges the shot - usually dodging has less negative modifiers than shooting someone. However, if you chose to shoot and rolled well, and the enemy rolled badly, it might be you who does a wound on the enemy's miniature, n HIS turn.

That, and the fact that you can compose your list however you want. There are no broken/unplayable units like in Warh40K (Vanguard Veterans, I'm looking at you).

It was the sculpts that attracted me to this game, and what got me really interested was all the free support out there, rules, army list generators etc. I've only played a couple of games so far, quick start style, and in the second game I lost two of my dakini tactbots to return fire in ARO :(. This game really makes you think tactically, much more so than 40k. The miniatures were a joy to paint and my terrain building skills are slowly improving. Very new to this, but I highly recommend you try and get some friends into it!

I'm in Las Cruces, NM. The closest player I saw on the games DB of players was in Albuquerque, which is about 3 hours.. I would think that someone in El Paso, TX (about 45min away) plays, but if they do they're in the closet about it.

As assumed, I'm in WI. If you have any local game stores near you all I can suggest is download the rules and proxy some basic games.

Nomads:
3x Alguacils with Combi Rifles
1x Mobile Brigada with Multi-Rifle / Light Flame

Pan Oceania:
3x Fusiliers with Combi Riles
1x ORC with Multi-Rifle

If you really want it to be "fair" starting out, just pick one of those and both of you use them. Get out there and promote!

Contact Magno or Crushar on the Infinity forums. They are a little ways from you but they may know more about folks in the area.

Good news! I posted on my local gaming groups facebook page and got two other people interested in picking up a starter and trying out the game! Are the starters pretty standard points wise? I'd like to pick up a starter for Haqqislam and Ariadna. Will they be pretty evenly matched?

Great to hear that! Sometimes it comes down to how much you want to do it and try to recruit people.

The starters are close in points depending on the forces. The new Steel Phalanx might be a bit OTT.

I play Ariadna and Haqqislam and have used the starters to run demos quite a few times. They are pretty even on points and the models are pretty evenly balanced as well.

ARIADNA
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

GROUP 1:

3x LINE KAZAK Rifle (9)
VETERAN KAZAKS (CH: Mimetism) AP Rifle, Light Flamethrower (47)
HIGHLANDER GREY Rifle, 2 Light Shotguns, Grenades, Smoke Grenades (30)
CHASSEUR Rifle, Light Flamethrower, Antipersonnel Mines (19)

123 Points | SWC: 0

ARMY CODE: Army Infinity v.3.0.

HAQQISLAM
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

GROUP 1:

NAFFATÛN Rifle + Heavy Flamethrower (12)
3x GHULAM Rifle + Light Shotgun (13)
HUNZAKUT (Deployable Repeater) Sniper Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines (25)
JANISSARY AP Rifle + Light Shotgun (45)

121 Points | SWC: 0.5

ARMY CODE: Army Infinity v.3.0.

You could make the Jannisary a doctor to even the points exactly but for a demo game i wouldn't bother. Or to keep things simple if you are just learning the game yourself just use the 3 line kazaks and the vet kazak against the 3 ghulam and the jannisary.

Where in WI are you located? I'm in Dubuque IA. I've been looking for players as well, I just play games with my family when they are in town.

It's worth saying. If you look through the Find A Game thread and don't see anyone near you then please leave your details anyway. There could be someone in your area doing the same thing. Putting your name up may encourage people local to you to do the same.
