Hi, i really want to get some thunderfire cannons for my army but they are pretty expensive. Been thinking of converting a fantasy organ gun or something similar. Would this work? Suppose i could say its an old chapter relic. Would you accept this in a game if an opponent used it?

The Rapier isnt too much cheaper when you factor in shipping. Id go with the Thudd or this http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Cadian_Shock_Troops/GRAIA-PATTERN-RAPIER-LASER-DESTROYER.html for a more Space Marine look (depsite being an IG unit) Automatically Appended Next Post:
No a Thunderfire is £36. Which is frankly a disgusting price, even for GW.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Here you go.
That was my SM TFC back in 2011. I no longer play the game (sick of various aspects of it, and after 26 years, time to change).

Ive been using that mantic one as well and its worked pretty well so far, plus its cheap. I just cut it up a bit and slapped on some bits, and made the top shell out of an old hunter killer missile box.
Although i think next time i make one ill take that little seat off the back....or i can do that right now!

you still need the techmarine. Do you have one already? I admit I got my first TFC because I wanted a tech marine, and the FLGS had none in stock. Oh man, how I love the TFC now, so worth the time and money to build 3.
As to your question, in a friendly game, I would accept any of the above models, but good luck in a GW store or a tourney.

Since GW doesn't support tournaments any more, most these days don't have a problem with non- GW minis, so long as they fit the part.

that may be the case where you live, but in this area, and a decent number others based on people's comments on these forums, most GW will frown upon you bringing non GW/ FW models in to play. Although this applies mostly to the mantic model, the statement was that in some situations, such as at GW where the staff are picky that day, or tourneys, where the TO or you opponent are more strict (which is a fair amount of the time), you may run into problems running something else as a TFC.
*edit* to be fair the OPs question was "Would you accept this in a game if an opponent used it?", to that my answer is yes, but that's me, in a friendly environment. In a more competitive environment, where people will call you on it just for the winning edge, or a store that would prefer you had bought their product, you may run into issues. My local GW is VERY WYSIWYG, and they have a 75% GW per model with the exception of FW rule as well, which they are usually pretty strict about unless it's clear you are just play testing something you may buy (as running it may intice you to buy it). Unfortunately I cannot answer for the entirety of the gaming community as to whether it would be acceptable or not

I was referring to tournaments, not GW stores.
Obviously you can't take other companies' models into GW stores. If you're expecting to play in tournaments in GW stores, you have bigger problems then which miniatures to use.

I did a for-real double take. I even looked up two different US to Aussie conversion tables just to make sure I wasn't mistaken.
That's freaking astronomical! I only pay $56 for one. That's insane! I've always heard the complaints that the models were more expensive in Australia, but I had no clue it was that bad. That's almost double. Damn...

I found a few that should make good proxies:
These from MaxMini under 'Heavy Weapons': http://www.maxmini.eu/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21&products_id=93
This one would make a great LC or AC too:
Take a look at this Dust HW team:
http://www.bolsmarket.com/servlet/the-12073/Dust-Tactics-cln--SSU-Heavy/Detail
Also, there's always 1:35 scale models as well, which are often more widely available and cheaper, like this:
http://www.boystownmilitaryminiatures.com/TAMIYA_1_35_37MM_ANTI-TANK_GUN/p1144420_8483264.aspx
I found other things too which with some plasticard and maybe a little GS could make some decent things at sites like Anvil Industries.

They would need some sort of ammo rule though, like you can fire the gun one turn, but not the next game turn whilst you reload. and it would be limited to one firing per ammo load, so no firing it then overwatching with it in the same turn. But that still would be crazy.
