Was planning to try out the new Armoured battlegroup (from the IA IG book) against a friend and could just any tips i can get. The list is mostly for fun and giggles, but if I enjoy playing that list-type i might 'switch over' from my current more footslogging IG lists. I'm a bit short on vehicles but i have a bucket load of infantry.
Anyway, here is the first draft of my 1500p list:
HQ:
230p LMR Vanq (lascannon, multimelta sponsons, artificer hull)
Troops:
185p LMR Battletank (lascannon, heavy bolter sponsons)
185p LMR Battletank (lascannon, heavy bolter sponsons)
170p LMR Exterminator (heavybolter, heavy bolter sponsons)
115p Armoured Fist Squad (meltagun)
115p Armoured Fist squad (meltagun)
Fast attack:
120p 3 Scout sentinels (heavy flamers)
140p Vendetta (heavy bolter sponsons)
Heavy support:
75p Hydra
160p Armoured fist heavy weapon squad (3*missile launchers with flakk)
Total: 1495p
It feels like a pretty average overall-list. But it anyone has any thoughts about the list, i'll happy to take any and all help i can get.

Well if its mostly for fun there isnt much criticize on. But if you wanted to go more competitive you will want to drop all upgrades for the LRBT's since they are heavies they have to snap fire all their other weapons whenever they fire the battle cannon.
I would even maybe switch up the weapons on the sentinels as well. They are very easy to kill and giving them flamers just moves them into range to get killed more easily.
Aside from the battle tanks and sentinels I would say its a pretty fun list, Im not familiar at all with the armored battle group or what it can bring so I dont have much more criticism.

Well the LRBT's have the upgrades glued and wont go anywhere i'm afraid, otherwise the upgrades would go instantly.
Somehow the outflanking scout sentinels with heavy flamers always works great for me, haven't had a game yet where they haven't carried their weight or more (but maybe thats due to my opponents playstyle).
But all in all, the Armoured battlegroup list seems like loads of fun due to pretty much every FW model is available to it.

I hear ya with the lrbt's, I have 5 with sponsons, and 3 of them I have fixed the battle cannon into different turrets just to get use out of them, and then I have 3 lrbt's without sponsons so I generally use those.
If the sentinels work for ya then thats good, keep them up.

I don't get it. You're bringing only 4 russes to an armored battlegroup? Why not just play with the regular guard rules? 4 russes aren't hard to fit into a regular 1500 point list.

One important thing: give your command tank a coax heavy stubber and beast hunter shells. Those two upgrades are what make the command vanquisher work. Then, since you're already taking infantry as your mandatory troops remove the upgrades from the LRBTs, make them commissar tanks, and give them the flamer shells (instantly fixing your anti-horde problems). Finally, you might want to make the armored fist squads into veterans if you can make the points work somehow.

So? What do you gain from using the codex rules instead?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

As i wrote in the first post, i'm currently a bit low on vehicles (only got 4 russes atm). Armoured battle group allows me to ditch the enormous amounts of infantry models i usually bring. Thanks, will look into that

You're still bringing 26 infantry models. You can get away with just 21 in the regular codex.

Yeah, all you're getting with ABG using this list is that command tank.
With a guard list (even allies maybe) you could potentially stick some cheap scoring in the vendetta. An astropath in a CCS could help with outflank/reserves rolls, while an infantry platoon, even smallish in size gives a tough to move objective holder.
Given that those armored fist squads are functionally the same as PIS in chimeras you could draw from the guard list just as easily.
Does your friend use a lot of air? I would recommend switching up your heavy choices also if able.
Considering you're playing with a friend I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you wanted to run those LRBTS as "counts as" and ignore WYSIWYG, to shave some points off upgrades. Your call.

So glad to hear someone else who likes IA Armored Battlegroup as much as I do
First thing is first: if you do not feel comfortable ripping those heavy bolter sponsons off, and you are playing only friendly games: don't pay for them, and treat them as just asthetics. Also, if you can, put H.Flamers on those LRMBT's
Going to have to agree with the flame shells on commissar tanks. I don't recall what the flame shells do off hand, but since they STILL did not make LRMBT's scoring, there is no need to put them in your troop slots, and having better leadership, additional hullpoints, and access to special shells is amazing.
Also going to agree with beasthunter shells unless you know for a FACT they are not playing with monsterous creatures. In tournies, I would take two Vanq's (cuz i have them) and both with beasthunters.
Ailaros, if I recall correctly, with the new IA update, the only thing you lose by going to Armored Battlegroup is Manticores, Penal Legions, Ogryns(?), Primaris Psykers, Lord Commissars (but you get commy tanks), and cheap vets. (seriously, look at the price and unit comp of veterans in IA. Take 5 guys for 70 pts and they MUST buy a heavy weapons, and if their squad is 5 or less, they may only buy a centaur which blows fath. Though, the FAQ does state that they forgot to mention vet squads have tank hunter, so they should have been called Tank Hunter Veterans Squad).
So, really, you gain a crapload, and lose a few, but get most back in the end with equivilants.
Also, you can always just ally in regular imperial guard when playing Armored Battlegroup anyways if you REALLY need more troops or a manticore etc.
