I was given a Firewarrior squad for a birthday back in the 3rd ed. and was hooked. The suits were always secondary to the Firewarrior appeal.

Plus the fluff always appealed to me with the assimilation of conquered races instead of the rest of the Galaxy's penchant for genocide.

I do not discriminate....all races are equally worthless....

While I don't play them, my friend did extensively in 3rd edition. I always enjoyed playing them - their focus on ranged combat rather than melee made for an interesting army to fight, and the mix of the super sleek, but still utilitarian Tau aesthetic and the tribal, brutal Kroot made a very different looking army on the table.

This release has me considering them. I love the Riptide and the Broadside (I never liked the original Broadside), and wuite like the flyers. But I'm still wrapping up my bugs, my Vampire Counts, my Haqqislam, and with a fledgling Iron Warriors army as well.

I love the T'au aesthetic, I don't currently have an army, but I WAS building one when the first Tau Codex came out. Time to slowly restart my Cadre!

Edit: Of course, if the new ork rumours are true at all, I may have to get me a grot army!

I started playing Tau back in 4th edition, and I chose them first off because of the models. I have always loved the robotic and techno look portrayed, and the customizability of the miniatures, in fact, some of my greatest conversions were with my Tau. As well, they portrayed a futuristic fighting style in which heavy weapons take priority over close combat, which would seem to be more prevalent in a futuristic setting. Even though the Tau have become weaker with the new release of other codecies, I always loved their style, and if used right, they have helped me tie with experienced players, and I think they'll be even with other races with their 6th edition release this weekend

I really enjoy the lore and gameplay/style. They are such a primative and tribal race yet pocess technology that far surpasses that of much of the Imperium, and have the only other opposing empire. Also they are range heavy army with tons of options and builds. The tanks are some the coolest and best in the game, and the battlesuits are not only really good, again having many builds, but are just badass. I cant wait for the new book!

I chose them in the first place because their book had a super gigantic mech on the cover. I was a little disappointed when that mech turned out to be only two or three times as tall as the guy standing in front of it, but I kept reading the codex.

I really liked the way that they adapted their tech, used allies, fought with ranged superiority, and cared more about conserving troops and resources then holding ground.
Basically, all of the things that make Tau Tau drew me to them. They seemed to have the only tactical style that made sense in a futuristic setting: using technology rather than brute strength.

simple answer or hard answer? simple is Kroot. Hard is because they embody Anime series and lets face it who doesn't like Mecha????

I got interested in 40k just before Tau were released and wanted something different. I also liked the ranged nature of the army and the anime style suits just added icing to the cake.

Is it just me or do the actual Crisis models not quite match up to the artwork for them(i.e. dakkahammers profile pic)?

I wanted to play them, but wasn't a fan of their current codex so moved onto Eldar instead. The crisis suit models as well, not too much of a fan of them. But, now with the amount of FW ones out, the riptide and the new codex may as well get into them.

I started after many of my friends were getting into warhammer. I was the 3rd to start out of the 4 of us, and was the main reason that the 4th joined too. I played quite a bit of tcg back then but after much pestering, I made the change over to tabletop gaming. I would always look at the different factions when ever I went into the flgs where I played cards, but the tau stealthsuits were my favorite model there. And that's the story of how I chose tau. because stealthsuits

Too many reasons.. I just list the main ones.

- First ever army I played as in 3rd ed... I still remember how my first game went (lost badly, but I managed to get 2 fire warriors to beat 2 charging ork nob bikers in close combat)
- Adaptability. Their suits can equip almost the entire armory the tau have, and have tons of internal wargear as well. Also, a Shas'O with lots of special issue wargear is always fun
- Background. I like the way their empire operates (Basically, communism that isn't corrupt, bias nor trying to screw the little man.). I also have the tau language text type in my word program.
- I'm a sucker for robots.
- Not built out of cheese (we have a few nasty tricks to pull, but nothing as broken as any late 5th ed codex ;3)
- Heavy forge world support (I have a trio of XV9's with dual fusion cascades for bigger apoc games, to hunt down some tasty baneblades/tank formations)

I play tau because I like their fluff and enjoy using combined force tactics, since the tau army needs to work together to win.

I liked the overall look of the fire warriors and how they value ranged combat over hand to hand. Ultimately having those rail canons and pulse rifles swayed me away from playing space marines.

Well there is a few major reasons why I chose the Tau while playing my Orks as well:

+ Interesting Lore that is Believable (INB4 realism in 40k), and Grimdark in its own way that it works like a Communist/ Caste-like system with an emphasis on trying to invent new technology to fight the enemy.

+ Basis on mobile Long-range warfare rather than the common Close Combat armies the game has.

+Did them as an ally for my Orks first, as both races seem to have a surprising synergy to them if done right.

+ And of course the main selling point of the Japanese Samurai feel to the Firewarriors and Anime Mecha looks to the Suits.

Initially it was the Drones (and thinking the suits were also some kind of big drone). I was very interested by the idea of a Droid Army and throughout my army's history I've tried implementing them in maxed out deep strikes.

Other than being my first army, and my signature army back home why I continue to play is simply the "draw the line in the sand and dance around it while a wrench gets thrown in (via outflank, deep strike, markerlights, etc.)" play style I've adapted and continue to have fun with
