If a unit is on top of the relic can it pick it up at the end of any movement phase not just your movement phase?

I don't have my rulebook on me, but I believe picking up the relic is an action you perform with your scoring unit during your movement phase.

It is the movement phase. No mention of your turn at all.

Incorrect. It's in the movement phase you moved into contact with it.
Like I said, pretty clear.

Alright so now the quesiton. If you are on top of the relic at the start of the next turn. Do you have to move to claim it or are you already on top of it? Moving into contact is just naming how you can pick it up. You have to be in contact at the end of the movement phase.

You'll automatically pick it up at the end of your movement phase, since that's when you "move" into contact.

No i mean you end a combat at end of your opponents turn and consolidate onto relic... do you have to move in that movement phase to pick it up even though your already on top of it?
According to your assesment if your already on the relic you cant claim it. Because you will already be in base with it and cant move into base with something your already in base with...

I don't think you have to move; you just have to be in contact with it at the end of your own movement phase.

Thats just it though... in the relic rules page 131. It just says the movement phase. No mention of requirement to be your turn.

But the text about moving into contact with it implies that it's your own phase, as you can never move in your opponent's movement phase.

Infiltrating Broodlord
|
It came up in a game I played but was a little more complex.
A unit of Space Marines along with an IC(The Warlord) who was carrying the Relic assaulted my Hive Tyrant. His Warlord died(in a challenge of course) and dropped the relic. It was placed in contact with another SM in the unit. My Turn comes around and at the end of my movement phase my opponent says his SM picks up the relic. We looked and decided that as the rules for The Relic do not state your movement phase we decided it was legit. At the end of the turn the game ended and he won by one point... I was a little upset I didn't roll a single 6 during my last assault phase so I could precision strike the model holding the Relic... cost me the game

Except it does. It says you move into contact and then pick it up at the end of the phase. You can't move into contact with it during your opponents movement phase so it must mean yours.

There's two queries to answer here, really.
1) What happens if the Relic and my model come into base contact during my opponent's Movement phase?
The *ONLY* way I can see it happening this way is if your opponent holds the Relic, has Deep-striked from already being on the board (such as Gate of Infinity or Summoning), and landed in such a way that they are within 6" of where they were at the start of the phase (so they don't drop the Relic), and both you and he are touching the marker for the Relic but still being over 1" away from each other. The enemy model is then killed by something using Interceptor, leaving only your model in base contact.
Even this is iffy, because it requires the marker to be over 1" in width itself, and this isn't exactly specified anywhere. But in this case, RAW would still be that you don't get the Relic - *you* haven't moved into base contact, your opponent and the Relic moved into base contact with you.
2) What happens if I'm in base contact with the Relic already during my movement phase, and don't move?
Much more feasible thanks to things like falling back, regrouping, involuntary moves, consolidating and so on. But the same wording applies. The requirement is that you move into base contact during the phase - so, you'd have to move to pick it up. You can of course declare that you've moved an inch away and an inch back to "stay" where you were and fulfil the requirement, but this will count for things like firing Heavy Weapons and so on.
This restriction does make some sort of sense - you can't exactly have much concentration on aiming and firing at something with a massive weapon if you're picking up the VERY THING YOUR ARMY TURNED UP FOR...
