Anyone know if BF charges tax at Adepticon? Trying to see if it worth buying at Adepticon or waiting until next Black Friday.

That would probably be a question better suited for BF's customer service.... I would suggest calling them instead of emailing them I haven't had the best luck with email.

Yeah, I haven't had the best luck with email either. I tried calling them but they said they would get back to me. Still waiting.....

I haven't had the best of luck with their customer service, either.

Technically, if you are receiving the goods at the point of sale - you should be charged sales tax based on the location of the point of sale.

If you are having them shipped to your house, they will be charged the appropriate tax based on current distance selling rules.

That isn't to say that I have not been to conventions where vendors don't actually collect sales tax for sales made at the venue...but they are supposed to.

Technically not really Sean. Some states actually have laws saying any out of state resident doesn't have to be charged sales tax. A lot of business's will still do it but if you confront them on it and the state does have such regulations then they cannot legally charge you. I know this as 99% of my business is from out of state and my state is one of those such places so I don't have to charge sales tax.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

To answer the question, they haven't in the past. That's not to say they won't this year. If you order custom during the con or buy something they don't have In stock, they have also shipped for free.

If you are receiving the goods...you have to pay tax. If the goods are being shipped, generally speaking there is no tax collected at the time of sale (though most states have a form you are supposed to fill out for goods purchased out of state to pay your local sales tax after the fact, generally when you file taxes).

If Battlefoam has a booth, and you pick up a product from them in person at the booth, they are supposed to collect sales tax at the booth. If they ship the item to you, taxes will be collected as you say - which is to say, they will not generally be collected. Most states issue temporary licenses for event vendors which provides them with their tax ID and related materials needed to collect the appropriate taxes. The difference is where you obtain possession of the goods. Internet sales will almost always be shipped based on the very nature of it. Convention sales will be dependent on how they are processing the orders.

Probably better to wait for Black Friday, if you can. The discount is pretty hefty. It'll almost surely be cheaper, even with shipping.

Technically yes. A lot of states don't enforce it or try to collect it a shows like Adepticon. However, this is Chicago, and from friends who work conventions there, you will be charged sales tax. Chicago is aggressive in making sure dealers at a show pay their "due".

I was right as i looked up Illinois tax laws and out of state residents are exempt of charging. So to the individual who likes to claim he's always factual he wasn't this time. I also confirmed with the organizers so double whammy but this makes me happy as i don't have to deal with tax crap like i did at templecon.

In Illinois, out-of-state vendors may participate in Illinois events provided they remit Illinois sales tax to us by completing Form   IDOR-6-SETR ,Special Event Tax Collection Report and Payment Coupon. This also applies to Illinois vendors who are not required to be registered with us.

If you are selling at an event in Illinois to people who pick up products at the event...you must collect sales taxes based on the local tax rate. If someone tied to Adepticon says otherwise, I recomend they get with the Illinois tax authority so they can get accurate informatio and avoid the possibility of vendors getting in trouble.

You mean this one

http://tax.illinois.gov/Publications/Pubs/Pub-104.pdf

This exemption does not apply to sales to out-of-state buyers in which the buyer takes physical possession of the item in Illinois.

Again IRS disagrees with you but we are off topic. If the op wants BF then get it and if you don't. Then don't. Also if people are not vendors then the taxes have no bearing to them. As it stands no one that i have known ever ever charged plus a lot give big discounts.

That makes sense. The IRS is a federal agency, which doesn't dictate state tax law, so they could care less about someone collecting state sales tax...

My bad. I didn't know about the discount.
Might be better to go ahead and get it now. I *THINK* (don't want to get called out by *ahem* anyone) that the BFriday price is usually 25% off, but the 5% might be eaten up by shipping charges, unless you're buying a TON.
