I bit the bullet, last week, and won a Cypher model off Ebay, knowing fully well that there aren't rules for him. But, dangit, if it isn't a sweet model, and even GW suggests running him as something else.

So, I've been thinking about that "something else," and here's what I've come up with. By the way, I'm fully aware this is a point sink, you don't need to tell me. Also, whether or not you believe Cypher has fallen to Chaos or is still a Loyalist is a topic for another thread.

Cypher - Counts as Company Master
- Artificer Armor for his sweet armor
- Replace Chainsword with Plasma Pistol (If I could pay extra for Mastercrafted, I would)
- Shoud of Heroes Chapter Relic to represent his cowl (I realize EVERY DA EVERYTHING wears robes, but Cypher's cowl / cloak tends to be mentioned A LOT, so obviously it's special. Also, at 50 points it's a toss up whether it's really worth taking for FNP and +2 Cover)

And here's the part that I'm concerned about
- Perfidious Relic of the Unforgiven to represent the C'Tan/Lion/Luthor sword

My concern is that there's an existing model for the Relic of the Unforgiven, but the model doesn't DO anything. You can't target it, it doesn't count for base contact, it doesn't block line-of-site... it's just there to hold a sword. Well, the Cypher model has a purely decorative sword strapped to his back, already. One that he never draws to use on combat -- and one that is so trade-markably him that it very well could invoke Fear in anyone who went up to battle him.

I'm 99% positive this would be allowed in a friendly game, but would you as a player / TO accept it as WYSIWYG?

I would say 90% of them would. However there are always the weird ones that want you to run only units with "official" models, etc.

Cool idea and should look great.

It's all GW, but I get what you're saying.

If they have a problem you probably don't want to be there. Besides he would be sub-optimal at best so they really have nothing to worry about.

Considering optimization was never the point of this, I'm okay with that.

As other things like spell and combat familiars are modelled on the base or on the armour of the controling model I think people would b fine.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.
