So this has come about from me building a pre-heresy army.

1. A dreadclaw counts as a flyer and has deepstrike, and I can put a contemptor dread inside one. Can I deepstrike in "hover" mode, so then T2 I can disembark the dread and assault. Or do I count as zooming and therefore have to wait a turn?

2. For 40k, say I have a vendetta with a vet squad, when they arrive, do I have to enter the board zooming. Or can I come on in hover mode, move 6 and disembark the guys straight away?

A unit cannot initiate an assault the turn it enters the game from Reserve (unless it has a special rule exempting it from that specific restriction).

You can indeed choose to enter the game in Hover move, and thus disembark the turn you enter (with the usual restrictions as you mention).

The vehicle must enter fully onto the board.
In the case of the Vendetta it is quite literally too big to move onto the board with a 6" move. You need 9" minimum to get it onto the board.
Theoretically it's possible with a smaller flying transport, but not a Vendetta.

If it leaves the board zooming it has to return zooming, just thought I'd mention that

Pivoting the Vendetta requires 9" to get it on. It's a big vehicle...

No, pivoting a box that is ~11 inches by ~9 inches around its center point will never let it fit in a 6" square.

Right. In 5th, since it was a Fast Skimmer, folks wanted to be able to move it 6" onto the table to fire all three lascannons, but it was physically impossible.

In 6th, a Flyer with Hover mode (like a Vendetta) can move onto the table in either Zoom or Hover mode, and if it moves on in Hover, as a Fast vehicle it can move up to 12" and fire two weapons at full BS, and snap fire the third.

but if you want to disembark the cargo (hence hover mode) you can only move 6.

So looks like in both situations I need to come down zooming, then disembark T3 for assault. Cheers guys.

I wonder why the dreadclaw is a flyer and not like a pimped up drop-pod, kind of seems odd but that's for another discussion

Which he can not anyway as you can not assault the turn you arrive from reserve.

Even if its an assault vehicle like the dreadclaw?

I guess I would have to come in zooming with the dreadclaw, then hover for T3 assault. Assuming I came in T2

Or could I deepstrike and disembark in the same turn, so the dread can shoot but not charge?
