War Walker Pilot with Withering Fire
|
Hey guys,
I've been posting my weekly lists from a campaign i've been taking part in. I've had quite a bit of success. This week I expect to be up against CSM or C:SM.
My latest addition is a 2nd Wraithlord, so i'll definitely want to field the two of them.
Here's the list;
Eldrad
Autarch - Mandiblasters, Power Sword, Fusion Gun, Jump Pack
5 Dragons + Exarch - Firepike, Crack Shot
9 Avengers + Exarch - Dual Cats
5 Pathfinders
10 Defnders - SL, Warlock - Embolden
10 Storms - 2 Flamers, Warlock - Destructor
Wave Serpent - SL turret & Shuricannon
3 GJB - Cannon, Warlock - Spear, Embolden
4 Spiders + Exarch, Dual Spinners, Powerblades
5 Swooping Hawks + Exarch - Skyleap
Wraithlord - BL & EML
Wraithlord - BL & EML
3 War Walkers - 6 Scatterlasers
That equals 1999
I'm pretty much set in using this. It looks solid, and i've got some great AT firepower in there. The spiders might even get to go on infantry duties with the Autarch.
Any thoughts?

Executing Exarch

Looks pretty solid. The fragons on foot are going to have some issues, but with good placement of the exarch, the pike and crack shot have a chance. It really depends, but they are your weak link.
The hawks are great for skyleap yo-yo blasts, but they are going to need to touch down eventually, and probably shoot. Good to give the exarch a gun upgrade, both are good.

Personally I dislike Guardians of any kind, they are just too fragile and have limited viable uses. I would either consolidate the guardians into a dire squad in the serpent or flesh out the jetbikes to a larger squad or just another if you want another warlock (though I don't recommend it).
More importantly, the Dragons need to be in a transport, period. Otherwise they will never get to the positions you need them meanwhile the hawks are kind of useless. The primary use of them is to deep strike, drop template, skyleap, rinse and repeat, but then you lose a great deal of usefulness with the low powered high volume of shots. Can the hawks for a Wave Serpent for the dragons.
Personal preference but not necessary: The sword on the wraithlord is a great investment for low points. You get to re-roll hits in CC which is where the wraithlord really proves its worth. Good luck

Well, i'm contemplating moving the dragons into the serpent. I'd also love to upgrade the hawk's exarch's gun, but don't have the points to spare anywhere.

I play an Ulthwe themed army, so those 2 squads of guardians are mandatory for me. I've actually been thinking of a 2nd defender squad haha.
I will put the dragons in the serpent, but I think I need to look into getting a 2nd serpent in the long run anyways.
The hawks are a new addition for me. I'm still working out the kinks, but I love the models and am quite proud of my paintwork, they'll be staying around for these friendly games.
I'm not sold on the sword for the lord. He only has 2 attacks. Basically i'm giving up the use of his BS4 to be able to hit a lil bit more often when he RARELY makes it into combat. I'd field them with swords against a nid army, but that's it. I want to use the lords as riflemen hunting tanks and shrugging off enemy fire. 2 attacks is not enough for such an expensive model. They are to hunt tanks, and make my opponent scared of them. I want him to be shooting at them, over the war walkers and serpent.
Also, i've dropped crack shot for a spirit seer upgrade to the storm guardian warlock. I don't want my expensive lords derping out on me.

I have used hawks effectively this edition by just jumping in replaying and either dropping behind cover shooting a secluded unit or jumping out. Sometimes you can do this and get close to something worth risking being shot at to slap on grenades

Ill agree that running a second squad of guardian defenders over the storm guards in the serpent to give the fragons a serpent is cool.
Give the spiritseer upgrade to a backfield warlock. The stormlock will be going upfield, so you are wasting the upgrade.
Hawks and an autarch have served me well the last 2 games I played, and the yo-yo is a nice ability in 6th. Plus, grabbing linebreaker and cleaning up stragglers late game is handy.
