Deadzone development began many, many months ago. We knew we wanted to create a skirmish game that combined simple but interesting game play, faction development, claustrophobic battlegrounds and great 3D scenery - and making it a fantastic example of all that the Warpath universe will become.
Slowly each piece of the jigsaw started to appear. Game play developed. The greens arrived from the sculptors, wonderful pieces of art landed in the dropbox. Then we received the gaming mat in the post. When the scenery tiles were delivered the office stopped to look. As each component arrived anticipation built.
The Kickstarter began 38 days ago.
However, none of us were ready for what happened then!!
We had asked for a $50,000 goal, higher than our other Kickstarters because of the more complex tooling. We thought this might take a few days.
On the first day we got 1297 backers and the project was funded in 33 minutes!
Since then there have been around 37,395 comments in the main section, plus many more in all the updates, 1000's of messages in the inbox, and 66 stretch goals. We have undertaken building 6 factions, with boosters, vehicles and characters, mercenaries, 2 core tile sets and 3 battle zones and game play that will allow PvP, solo play, multi-mat and multi-player plus a fantastic selection of scenarios - and of course hard plastic zombies.
We didn’t quite make the Enforcer Peacekeepers but so long as we make the remainder of the goal up via Paypal after the first survey, we’ll still honour the set. If you didn’t get chance to add-on them during the campaign you will be able to do so at this special Kickstarter price via the survey.
You have told us you want us to make this game, and make it great. We will do everything in our power to make you a game and models that you will be proud of backing.
Thank you for showing us faith in us - you support is truly humbling. Together we will make Deadzone everything we all know it can be - and more!
Cheers,
Ronnie!
A Word on the Survey
The survey will be out in a couple of weeks when Amazon has finished finalising all of the payments.
And finally – a word from Jake!
I just wanted to say thanks to all the backers of this incredible campaign. Deadzone is off and running in spectacular fashion!
I'd also like to say a huge thanks to all those brave folk who stepped up and built themselves boards to try out the Alpha and Beta rules for themselves. There's been loads of really useful feedback and the game is definitely stronger for all your efforts. If you're interested in continuing to follow its development then be sure to subscribe to my blog at www.quirkworthy.com where I'll be posting further updates over the coming weeks/months.
Thanks again.

Final Kicktraq data, rather nice:
Backers: 4306
Average Pledge Per Backer: $283
Funded: $1,216,482 of $50,000
Not all that different to Robotech, overall!
Especially in terms of spread. A little lower but still in the same ballpark.
Really huge day 1 which seemed to help a lot in terms of giving people confidence in it as a good product worth backing.

Oh, and for those interested in Warpath Kickstarter rumours
- Next year.
- Hard Plastic everything.
- Large battles, with vehicles and flyers.
- Aiming to fund as much stuff as possible.
Be prepared for a far more "focused on the minis" Kickstarter when it arrives, and expect Reaper Bones levels of value.
See the 56 cents zombies in this kickstarter? Extend that to an entire army.
This one was very much a mixture of minis/ rules/ terrain/ accessories. Warpath will be more focused.

Actually, Mantic had full rules for flyers in Warpath 1.0 before GW released 6th edition and went nuts on them. And the rules for them were done far better than the 5th edition kludge for them, too.

Hey SS, how big (number of figures) is a typical force in Warpath?
I'm looking at around 30 figs per faction with my DZ stuff, probably more after the manager rolls in.

Warpath sounds great, but I'm more interested in expanding Deadzone to slightly larger battles involving 25 or so models with a few "big-unz" like an Iron Ancestor or two added in, on 3x4 or 4x6 tables. It would get me the best of both worlds- the grid makes things nice and fudge-free for the wife, who isn;t a hardcore gamer, and I have lost the passion to paint huge armies made of squads of similar figures.
The assembly-line style needed to bust out painting for current 40K-scale size armies makes me go slightly insane, especially as I always have to paint the opposing force, too. So to play a game I have to do twice the painting work. But give me 15 Enforcers of varying styles and a big accompanying walker to paint to get an entire force together, and I am stoked to go.
Making the step from playing Deadzone-sized forces while I expand them to Warpath-sized ones is alot easier than a big force all at once before I can play at all.

The flyers were kinda interesting, they popped in, did something nasty, and popped back out. I think you had a chance to fire at them before they left maybe? Been awhile since I read those rules.
@TalonZahn, Think warhammer numbers more or less. Enforcers are very elite and require less, plague you can get a lot of zombie filler on the cheap. Maybe not IG footguard and greentide lists, but you can get a lot of boots on the ground, especially if you dont proxy models.
One of the cool things is the fairly flexible allies rules which allow most factions team up with 2-3 others.

Depends on the army.. 30-50 for enforcers/forgefathers as elite armies, more like 60-120 for horde ones like plague or marauders.
Here's a Plague army list I made earlier in the thread, it uses 2x plague starters, +$50 double plague booster, +$45 for 60 plague zombies
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/3120/516236.page#5675340
.. and that was before the zombies were buy 3 get 1 free, so add another 20 zombies and 200 points to the total, there!
Just $95 added to Strike Team is capable of giving you a giant 2k+ Warpath army.
The Forgefathers and Enforcers are also really easy to make Warpath armies with out of the deadzone stuff, since they're elite armies and each unit costs a lot of points.
Anyway, I'm also looking to get good use out of deadzone as a game in itself, I think it'll work great as a small, short, fun pickup game, and I'm more interested in it as a game than I am with dreadball.

Yup, that's how they worked. I think it represents the strafing-run style of actual aircraft interaction far better than the barely-maintaining-altitude velocities you get with 5e/6e 40K Flyers.
Plus, Warpath 2.0 (The current rules set) have alternating activation rules instead of IGOUGO, which helps switch up the strategy quite a bit. There's also an absolute boatload of fan-made army lists for it that should cove revery 40K army without an equivalent official mantic list, as well as a bunch of other scifi armies (Crew of the Enterprise, USSR-style human army, HALO Covenant/UNSC/Flood, Protoss, etc.) so I'm quite stoked for the WP KS as well as hopefully it'll rev up interest in my area for the system.

Well, I backed this project for the scenery but ended up dropping more on minis! Mantic looks to be seriously upping their game in terms of sculpting quality and art direction. I'm hoping the stuff I backed for (Enforcers, Rebels, Zombies) all can live up to the concepts and quality of initial sculpts.

Well I missed the last few hours as I was in town for a bit but it looks like it was a great finish.
Glad the enforcers in peacekeeper armour finally showed up. $10 for 5 is a great deal, really gets my hopes up (and my wallet down) for the Warpath ks!

I have this idea of taking one of my plano accessory cases (its a hard plastic case, thats a rectangle, bit over a foot one way, not quite two the other way, 8 inches deep maybe) and somehow fitting everything I need for a 1v1 deadzone into it, so I can take it to a game store and set up to show deadzone off. The mat will have to be outside but so would books and dice so that gets its own small satchel bag or something. I think I could get the models for two factions inside it, not sure if I could get as muc hterrain as I'd like.. maybe if I broke it all down or took along two cases for pre-assembled easy set up.

I wonder when all the additional stuff ships, as the KS is somewhat unclear. I've seen Q2 2014 on some of it, but not all. I thought it said that Forgefathers/Asterians ship Q2.
I'm thinking that unless I get the new job I'm gunning for (which the wife says would put her in a "I don't really care what you spend" mode, I was thinking of going "Scout", picking Enforcers and then adding the Marauders starter, and then adding Forgefathers. Maybe a walker for both Enforcers and Marauders, too. I really want Forgefathers as I have always liked them, but at least I could get Enforcer/Marauder games played in the meantime if they indeed ship later.
110 bucks for three starters, even in comparison to the incredible Strike Team deal, sounds like a great deal, too.
