Well... No comment. I honestly don't want to know.
Furthermore I was flipping through the new tau releases and she saw the new broadsides (the ones holding the big :cuss: gun in both hands) and thought they looked pretty "epic, for an army man" Anyone else feel a bite?

Possibly. Is it the best reaction that she's had from an army thus far?

Just moved to the middle of nowhere (anyone ever heard of Bernville?) but I've been waiting on a new tau dex since early 5th Ed came out, this is my excuse

Middle Earth

If you want to get anyone into nerdy stuff start with your basics, watch Lord of the RIngs, the new hobbit movie and star wars. These are good mvoies and anyone can enjoy them, if the person doesn't like anyhting about them then you probably aren't going to get very far. The I would move onto video games, I know a lot of girls who love mass effect, dragon age and TES games, and these can go very far to promote interest in sci fi and fantasy.

From there you can move onto reading tolkien and watching stuff like dune if you feel really confident (don't bother reading dune though, its pretty dense). If the person is still interested in sci fi and fantasy then you can move to RPGs like DnD (which my sister and her friends really love) and then that can lead to warhammer. Its all about gradual immersion rather than simply chucking someone in the deep end. Of course in my family we were raised on the holy trinity of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Dune so it was easy to fall into geek stuff later in life.

We're watching you... scum.

Hey, if a person doesn't get that spark to start playing, nothing's going to change their opinion regardless of gender.

Are you Dutch? Do you live in Zeeland, and want to join a cool, friendly club to play your games? Give me a PM!

<--- Yeah that's me. I'm a cartoon bear IRL.

Be subtle. Ease her in gently. Get White Dwarf and leave it open on one of the Tau pages. Maybe a battle suit or two and leave it on your desk half-assembled - it's hard, but eventually there's a good chance she'll say "Are you EVER going to do anything with that robot thing?" and decide someone should finish it for you. Wait a little while to pick up the codex. Rushing her will just make you seem like you're trying to force the issue and she'll backpedal out of sheer sibling orneriness.

She's already into things like Star Wars, LotR (she read the books before I had time to) played all of the Dragon Age and WoW games, even took a crack at Fire Warrior when it was released. Course im sure she didn't know it was 40k related. Will use subtext and subtle imaging to ease he into the relm though.

As people say, subtlety is king. Pressure only gets resistance in turn.
Most of the work must be done by her and not you.

Why not try gathering up two small kill-team army groups and inviting her for a very small game one day; provided she's shown interest prior to this. Start small.

Maybe you should consider a career in the Games Workshop marketing department.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Nahh GW doesn't treat their gamers well enough. If I went to work there it'd be in the general management section so that I can represent the gamer heart of the industry. Otherwise it'd be for the employee discount

Simple answer and your not going to like it. Leave the issue alone. if she doesn't want to play. there must be good reasons. you listed she is a HS age girl living in the middle of nowhere, that might be a deciding factor.

Since she's shown interest in Tau, there's no reason to "give up".

while true in part.

that was under pretext or context of a videogame.

40k is much greater than button mashing on a controller.

the OP mentioned his kid sister didn't like 40k for it's "geek" culture which is generally the stereotype most gamers that are labelled with.

if the OP explained in detail what the game was about then his sister would make an informed choice, and if she still doesn't want to play, quit pushing the issue.

the OP say's he is in College, here is a better more easier way to game with a pal or meet new people. at the moment i am doing just that (am in between gaming groups)
