Odd question perhaps,
Are Techmarine Characters or Independent Character?
Came up in a game where a dude used his servitors to get a 2+ look out sir.

Shouldn't it say in the codex? If it doesn't clearly say IC then it's not an IC

ICs unless attached to a Thunderfire, when they are characters.

I'm A tau and CSM player, I don't have the codex to hand and I never thought to ask when the game was going on (I took out the entire unit in the end anyway so it didn;t matter with he got a 2+ or not) it's just for future reference.

Wrong on both counts, I'm afraid. It's "Iron Priest". And if the fact that non-IC characters didn't exist when Codex Space Wolves was written wasn't already enough, page 135 of the rulebook updating unit types confirms it.

Look at the codex entry under the special rules, if it has the Independent character special rule then it is.

Hmm pg 135 of the rulebook is a picture.

While an Iron Priest is indeed a Character shown on page 411.

Not sure about 3rd or 4th, but while they did *kinda* exist they were never explicitly defined in the Rulebook as such - I remember all the confusion when the Necron Codex came out.
Apologies on the page listing confusion - just checked page 411 in my big copy too (yes, I have both) and he's definitely an IC.

Really? Never thought of that... :\ I don't have the codex as I'm not a SW player. Like I said in an above post I'm a Tau and a CSM player.

No, they really were clear on this - they had characters, upgrade or IC listed in 4th and 5th edition.

If it came up in a game then it is reasonable to assume you and your opponent would have the relevant books. So stop being facetious and look it up.

And if you had read earlier, I hadn't thought to, since I wiped his unit anyway. Also we all need to be a little facetious now and then otherwise we'd all go crazy :L
