Ok, sheer ignorance here:
Are there any offical GW models for these?
If not, what is a good alternative (in your guys/gals opinion?) - 3rd party sites or home made?
What size should they be if home made? Marine drop pod? Able to size a Tervigon inside? Bigger/Smaller? Apoc size?
If someone (maybe I!) brought some home made ones to a tourney - would they be accpeted?
The tourney may or may not be GW offiicial (?)
Just looking for guidance really. Sorry mods - feel free to move elsewhere.
What are you other Nid players doing / using?

No official gw model currently. Chapter house makes a pretty nice one.
I made mine with great stuff and a tupperware. Get about ten out of a two dollar can.
Check out my gallery for a handful of pics at local tournaments I've used them at. Attack of the cupcakes from space!
So I started out with:
A can of "great stuff" expanding insulation in a can.
Some disposable gloves (great stuff is very sticky out of the can)
A 6" round "glad" tupperware container.
A stabbing implement (like a nail, modeling poker, etc)
Size of the tupperware container can of course vary, and you might even try one without a container at all. (I plan on trying that at some point.)
I chose the container I did because about twenty gants could fit in it. a carnifex could fit in it, and there was still a bit of room for the spore surrounding the all. Turned out most of them would fit on a 120mm base, although I used cardboard cut outs.
For my first couple I made a plastic skeleton inside to help reinforce them. Just cut up pieces of sprue. This did help a little bit with the shape, but after a couple days of drying I was unable to tell the difference between those with and without the skeleton, except where it protruded from the spore in one case.
After the stuff is in the container, leave it alone for about thirty minutes or so.
When you come back to it, you will see where it has kicked, and where it is still gooey or has air bubbles in it. Stab through the tupperware at these points and you will be entertained by the great stuff taking up that void almost instantly. (This step may have to be repeated a couple of times.)
Once it is all kicked, squish the tupperware just a little bit, helps break the very slight bond that may have formed. Then pull out your spore.
The side that was exposed to air will now look wonderfully tyranidish. After a couple of various tries you'll figure out what you want it to look like when you first spray goo in.
I then cut the bottom off to make a flatter surface for my cardboard. Great stuff is easy to cut with anything remotely knife like.
I cut lengths of 1/8 inch wire and bent it to look like ripper tentacles.
For my own look on the top I mixed up some "amazing casting resin" It tends to kick very quickly and has a wonderful mozzarella string stage. I poured this over the spore so that it had a near melted look on top from entering the atmosphere.
Ripper tentacles were tipped with pokey bits from the bitz box. I believe the really small talons from the mawloc kit.
At some point I would love to come back with more resin, some hot glue, and some green stuff to shape the spores up so they look less like cupcakes and more like vicious living transport pods, but for the moment they are table top capable.
Hope this all helped mate.

A friend of mine uses the Dragon's universe Eggs. They are about as tall and about as wide as a Drop Pod. He painted them to match the rest of his nids and they look great painted up.

Cheapest and easiest I've seen is here:

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Totally not easier than getting the Dragons Universe Eggs and painting them to match.
Cheaper, yes, easier, no.
