I have 2 of the new Ork fliers sitting in their boxes waiting to be assembled and configured one of three ways. In all likelihood, I'll probably magnetize everything so that all options are available to me from game to game. Since I've never used one before, (in fact, I've never played a game with a flier in it, on either side) I'm curious as to what some of you think of these Orky planes. Share your experiences, your opinions, and maybe even some strategies you find that work for you. I plan on having at least one ready for my next game, so I'm kind of fishing for ideas on how to use it.

Go with the Dakkajet.

I've had it wreck everything from a full tactical squad to an entire blob of cultists led by a Dark Apostle.

Seems unanimous for the Dakkajet.... Are the other 2 just downright terrible? They don't look that bad on paper...

Its not that they are exceptionally bad its just that the Dakka Jet can easily do as much damage as they can especially with an extra Waaagh here and there either by Warphead or Ghaz`s two turn Waaagh.

I run one jet in small lists and usually wreck some faces before it goes down.I have another to build actually its an F86 kit im going to fully magnetize for all three options But in the larger 1k plus lists I wouldnt field any less than two Planes as the chances to run into some AA units is much higher. One Quadgun intercepting usually results in one dead Jet.

One thing to consider about using the Bombas is if you are facing regular lists with multiple Intercepting AA you at least can get the first bomb drop off before getting pasted.Just that its alot of points to pay for just one Template...

They aren't bad, but you will get more bang for you points with the dakkajet than any other jet.

Dakkajets are atleast useful, they arent awesome by any means but theyre not dust-collector material.

Burnabommers and Blitza-bommers on the other hand can go burn in an apocalypic explosion. They cost a fortune, do the same job the ENTIRE ork codex does (cheaper too), and die just as easy as a trukk.
I never looked at the rules for the fliers till i got a box, but prior to that i kept hearing the blitza-bommer was so bad you WANT it to crash because its more likely to do what its suppose to do - antitank - if it crashes in the process.
Its guns are pathetic, and its bomb has a stupid low strength, rolls on a 2D6 mishap chart, and has 2D6 pen if you didnt blow up in the process. You wanted snake-eyes or 3-4 results because it caused a Str9 Ap2 hit....then they nerfed the snakeeyes to just crash and burn as per BRB (Str6 AP-) the other results almost never did anything.

If i am bringing something that costs ~185pts and is AV10 and has limited ammo, that ammo better be fething scary. Nope. I used it 2-3 times to dink around with it...the one time it did anything at all was when i rolled a 3 and i caused a Str9 Ap2 hit to both me and my target (killing me of course).

Burnabommas are just plagued by orky BS. If missiles had a 1D6 scatter or something, it wouldnt be as bad, but limited small blasts that scatter like that? No thanks.
"But it has a large blast bomb!" Yea, so what its never going to kill anything but the crap your boyz will eat alive anyway. Waste of points.

Good points, all around. I'm still probably going to magnetize the crap out of both of them, but it looks like it's going to be the Dakkajet all the way, at least until Orks get their next codex... Whenever that's supposed to happen.

TO be honest, I'd use the Burna Bomma just for fluff/cool factor. Throwing blasts is cool.

I'm waiting to build 'em too. I'll get all the bits I can to mod a 1/32 wwii fighter and then a light bomber at least. You can get cheap 1/32 and 1/48 heavy fighters or light bombers like Ju 88s, Mosquitos, Skyraiders, Thunderbolts, Marauders or Mitchells that you can mod into bommers and that.

'ere we go!
