Do we know what HQs he is or would run? what support? The OP didn't specify anything.

Jfan: Hello! Welcome to the boards. I hope you find Dakka to be a helpful community for exchanging ideas and stories about your 40k hobby. I certainly do.
However, there are certain customs and expectations in any community. Most forumgoers expect their fellow posters to compose their posts with care, including the use of basic writing conventions like capitalization, punctuation, and proper sentence structure. A post is only written once, but it can be read by hundreds of people. The forums become a better place for everyone if we take the time to organize our thoughts and present them clearly.
It's also customary for a topic creator to present their issue with some background information. In your case, you could have told us about the rest of your army and the role you want your marines to fill. If you intend to bring an HQ selection that lets you field them as troops, this would affect the dynamic of the topic, and our discussion would change accordingly. You're more likely to get helpful responses if you give us something to work with.
Best of luck with your CSM. They're a cool army and offer a lot of great painting opportunities to a new player. And for what it's worth, I really like plague marines.

Plague Marines are more costly but have FNP and T5 making them ideal for 2 plasma cannons. Blight grenades and poisoned blades make them built in good in CC.
Noise Marines come in two flavors - Shooty with sonic blasters and blastmasters. Great ranged support and with ignoring cover very good shooty.
The other option is HTH, take the extra CCW and they are good chargers with +1 attack for having 2 CCW and then being I5 they are good at getting their attacks off first. This one I spend the points on the doom siren.
If you like power weapons, give an axe or fist to a plague marine. He has a low initiative anyways. A power sword or lightning claw or even a power maul makes more sense on a Noise Marine champion.l

I wouldn't give a noise marine a power maul. One of their big advantages is being able to strike before other marines, and so you want to select a power weapon that can capitalize on that. Off-hand, I believe a lightning claw is better than a power sword on any model with 2 base attacks or more.

A Power Maul is not slow. It is +2 S but only AP4. It is an awesome weapon but lacks against MEQ. Figure a Maul + Pistol on a champion... 4 attacks on the charge 2 hit, 1.67 wound that is pretty good. A llightning claw is 3 attacks 1.5 hit 1.13 wound. It is pretty much in favor of the power maul until the MEQ gets his save. Against a T 6 MC, the maul is going to still average 1 wound whereas the LC is going to drop off to .31 So even if the creature has AC 3, the maul is going to do marginally better. Basically if you are facing marines take the LC otherwise the maul is better choice.

I didn't say it was slow. I just said that it wasn't optimized for killing marines -- which is what an I5 model is designed to do.

I did this before, the only thing that sucks right now is a Power Sword.
If you say 2hits from a Power Maul, Power Axe or Power Sword
or 1.5 Hits from a Lightning Claw or Power Fist...
Kill chance: Geq/ Meq/ Teq
T4 PM = 1.67/.56/.28 Axe = 1.33 Sword = 1/.17 Claw = 1.13/.19 Fist = 1.25
T5 PM = 1.33/.44/.22 Axe = 1 Sword = .67/.11 Claw = . 83/.14 Fist = 1.25
T6 PM = 1 /.33/.17 Axe = .67 Sword = .33/.06 Claw = .46/.08 Fist = 1.25
Total PM = 4/1.33/.67 Axe = 3/3/3 Sword = 2/2/.34 Claw = 2.42/2.42/.41 Fist =3.75/3.75/3.75
So you can see, a Power Maul is superior to all at killing GEQ. It is superior to all but Axe and Fist versus MEQ and TEQ but it gets t go at initiative... So finally versus a Lightning Claw it is superior versus GEQ and TEQ and it is superior very close versus T6 AP 3.
So if you really want a versatile weapon, a Power Maul is not a bad choice except if you are facing T4 AP3. So if you expect to be facing bikes or nurgle marines, a power maul is still not a bad choice. Face a Carnifex or Nurgle biker though and you will be glad you took a power maul.
The other consideration though lesser, is you can bang on a vehicle with AV 10 on the rear a lot better than with anything but a Power Axe (about neutral since +1 S but axe gets +1 on vehicle table) or a Power Fist but of course the Fist costs more.

Hmmm. He was just trying to help because your posts were really a bit short. Nevertheless, you ARE new and he could have been nicer about it.

Agreed. I think Noise Champions are great single claw users. If you want a little more utility, I'd take a meltabomb but then again I5 krak grenades is fun against MCs and most walkers.
For Plague Champions, I really like the axe. Its the opposite situation as the Noise Champion, since you're already slower than most marines you might as well take the weapon that stronger. I go for axe over fist because it's cheaper and the extra attack helps more when killing other infantry units.
At the moment, both troop choices are very effective. Since the FAQ, I think MSU Noise Marine squads with blastmasters are becoming very common because they fulfil the role of objective camper and ranged fire support for cheap. The roughly equivalent squad for Plague Marines is dual plasma. It's better against armor, flyers, terminators and MCs but has less range and less infantry kiling power.

Its simply a courtesy to use full sentences when asking a question. Nowhere in your les than laconic posts did you tell us what you want to run, how you plan on running it, or what you are playing against. Playing compare the units doesn't do much more than start some vague storytelling about how well one unit works.
Provide us with information, not a mysterious two word response.
As for what I assume is your question, I see noise marines as a bigger danger than plague marines. They get into a fight faster, still have FNP (with the icon), and their weapons deny cover and put out a lot shots.
