So I was reading the new White Dwarf, and there is mention in the battle report of GeanStealers and Hormagaunts coming back to life. Really. In Tau's turn three a unit of Hormagaunts is destroyed by Fire Warriors and a unit of 'Stealers is annihilated by the Hammerhead. In 'Nids turn three, "The destroyed Hormagaunt and Geanstealer broods arrived from Ongoing reserve." Wait... what????? Since when do destroyed units come in form ongoing reserves? Could someone please explain this phenomenon to me?

Without Number was removed in the latest Tyranid codex, so the only things I can think of that allow that to happen are apocalypse rules/formations.
Or maybe it's just to make it more cinematic.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

My first thought as well, but it wasn't apocalypse.

Lol, I laughed seeing this thread.
For the specific scenario the goals were "against" the nids seeing as the nids had to destroy all the Tau for 3 VP's so to compensate this impossible goal, they allowed all destroyed Tyranid Troops (not specific but I believe troop choices) may enter ongoing reserve for the scenario to simulate the constant flow a tyranid swarm.

They mention it in the scenario, the nids had a special rule where they did that (just in that mission). Just like in one of the battle reports in the BRB, where one of the sides got to do that.

Tau completely dominated in the WD battle report. I'm not sure that the Nids hardly did any damage outside of a single crisis suit squad and some pathfinders. Really hope it was just due to the special mission, uneven points per side, bad army composition, and the inclusion of Deathwatch marines. Otherwise, it makes me a bit concerned about the power level of the new Tau.

The tyranid list was terrible. It featured everything the tau excel at killing. Lots of gaunts and warriors...and just enough big guys for the railguns to shoot at.

My question is why use tyranid-tau seeing as they have multiple Batreps in WD including both the older rlease of tau and this most current wave? couldn't they use orks? or an army which everyone <virtually everyone knows> is badly mismatched with current rules or did they expect the tyranids to fend half a chance at victory (i think batreps where the "new release" army is included the majority of the time GW will mismatch as to appear certain races dominate the rest [without comparison one cannot judge otherwise] thus driving up sales when they percieved a model range to not sell as much).

This. Tau have always excelled at killing larger targets from range...and the nid player had a list that seemed tailor made to lose to them. Carnifexes are horrible, warriors aren't worth taking, hormagaunts are meh, zoanthropes are meh...and yet his list was 80% comprised of these units. He didn't take any hive guard, only one hive tyrant (no wings either)...there's literally not much he could have done to make it worse.
Personally I think the list was an experiment to see if using the units in a nicely painted set featured in WD would make units that are otherwise not used much sell on the website

While you're obviously new to Tyranids, at least according to your sig, only having 500pts, can you stop spewing 5th edition garbage? We're in 6th edition how. Carnifexes are actually a tad better for their points in 6th, but still need to play Hug-the-Terrain, and still overpriced (note, this does not make them 'horrible'). Hormagaunts were never 'meh', just outclassed by Tervigon buffed Termagants, which were ludicrously good for their cost (same with the Tervigon itself). Hive Guard are completely redundant in 6th edition, and Zoanthropes? Psychic Choir lists say hi. Learn some new hyperbole please, this stuff has been outdated since 6th dropped.

I think GW is trying to remind people that they support the idea of customised missions. There is a section in the BRB about making your own mission types, and suggestions on how to do them (one of the better sections of the BRB, imo).
I'm tempted to start doing that within my own group with some of the older players to spice things up, could be fun to do endless bugs or the like, use the modular nature of 40k missions to try something funky.

I see someone who likes his tyranids (or respects them from afar) while my profile tells you i have 750pts i have been a fan since 1997 of the tyranids, really funny story relating to tyranids, but it's kinda OT here, tell you about it sometime. i agree the HG are a bit meh-ish but each edition of them they make them buffed/nerfed, 6th really favours flyers and was it shooty lists? (to counter all of the CC spam lists everyone is prone to only notice)

Alot of it was seriously bad tactics. Popping the Trygon Prime in the middle of the Tau army outside of LoS blocking cover (of which there was plenty on the Tau side) was incredibly dumb. Not using Mycetic Spores to drop the Zoenthropes in close so they could use their Warp Blasts wasn't too bright either. The Nid player also did a poor job of concentrating his fire. Letting a lone crisis suit walk after killing the first two was silly and could have tied the game.

True, but I think the whole battle was staged. GW isn't going to let the newest army release lose. That would make said army seem under powered and they would lose money.

That said, it does happen occasionally. It used to be the case where you could guarantee that any new release would win, but there's been new releases losing in WD from time to time.

To be fair, GW, as a rule, don't put conversions in battle reports anymore. Only what people can go into the store and buy. Given that there's no Mycetic Spore model from GW yet, the Tyranid player simply could not use them. Yeah after reading the batrep you can tell that the nids player wasnt trying when built his list or played......
Which leads me to worry that Tau are gonna get too big a bandwagon and EVERYONE will be playing them and create a boring meta for a while....

I doubt WD battle reports influence overall meta very much. Hardcore players laugh at the holes, inconsistencies, bad lists and otherwise continue on their merry way, fluff players aren't bandwagoners to begin with, and not that many people care about WD anymore anyways.
The 3 6th ed codexes so far have all been quite balanced, so I doubt they'll buck the trend with a blindly powerful army, especially since our spiritual liege isn't writing it. Cruddace has been inconsistent in the past, but I'm hoping his own weaknesses are balanced out by other influences; the codexes appear, at least to me, to be more of a group effort, which mitigates some of the characteristics of each writer.
