for those of you who ever wanted a nothing but leman russ tank list, this army can have tanks in every selection for all but fast attack and heavy support ( other then the hell hound and variants )

HQ

x2 company command tanks ( 220 points, vanguisher, co axle heavy stubber, pintle heavy stubber, las cannon, 2 heavy bolters )

TROOPS

x2 3 battle tank squad ( total is 1020 and thay all have a battle cannon 3 heavy bolters )

FAST ATTACK

x2 vulture gunships ( 155, twinlinked punisher cannons )

HEAVY SUPPORT

x3 hydra flak tank ( 75 )

all together thats 1995 on the dot, and this is a legit army, its on the forge world book

also the plan for this is to have the hydras spread apart so any air or infantry would die, have the troop tanks go first and spam blasts, and have the hq pop tanks and then take on infantry
and vultures mop up

A very solid list nothing negative to say

I thought Vulture's were listed as Heavy Support? Where do you find the Rules for this? Is it in Imperial Armour Vol. 1? I am very very interested!!!!!

TBH, it's a pretty bad list.

1) You don't have any scoring units. Good luck with objective missions.

2) You're wasting points on HB sponsons on LRBTs. Go review the ordnance rules, BS 1 weapons are not worth buying.

3) You're spamming LRBTs instead of the good Leman Russ variants (Demolisher, Executioner).

oh my mistake, yes after re reading the rules the hq cant even give orders XD

Drop sponsons. Reconsider Hydras. Vultures handle most air targets anyway. The only thing they can't ruin is the Stormraven and if your opponent has more than one Stormraven then you've probably won anyway. Not to mention Hydras don't do a lot to Stormravens (or any aircraft) anyway.

How exactly do you score? If you don't wipe your opponent out, you'll lose horribly as the only 2 points you can get are STW and FB. One objective is worth 3 points.

Where's the bubble wrap? Leman Russ tanks die horribly in assault. If you let even one MEQ squad near you, you'll start bleeding hull points.

it was just to pie plate them to death and vanquisher kill tanks , vultures mop up and hydras do anti air and anti ground

but what would i switch hydra for, there are no manticores because in that book manticores are apoc only, i could get a agis def line but no one to shoot it unless i bought infantry but i dont wana, i want a tank list >:3

They don't do anti-air very well, and they must snap shoot at ground targets. They're pretty poor.

If that's how you want to play, I guess go for it, but it's not a good list. If you leave 1 troop model alive by turn 5, you will lose.

This list is not fun to play against. I played against a similar one with this tardo upgrade called "slick loaders" or something like that, which makes me not like FW. It also takes forever to scatter the blasts and is incredibly boring.

Fortunately that rule no longer exists. Perhaps before you dismiss FW rules you should play against modern rules instead of 3rd edition relics?

If im not mistaken the LRBTs are Scoring as they are troop choices. So...yeah you are wrong there. Aside from that, he can litearally blast something off an objective/Tank Shock it away.

Not owning the books myself, I'm left to the mercy of FW players that do own them. It doesn't seem very cost effective to buy books that I'd rather not use just to read what other people might use against me and what is "modern."

You are mistaken. There are no special rules in the ABG that allow vehicles to score. The BRB states that vehicles can't score (unless HS or FA in the appropriate missions) and are never denial units.

It might not be so easy to "blast" someone off an objective that's out of sight. Or blast someone off an objective when they can easily obtain a 2+ cover save. Or blast someone off muliple objectives, since even 1 objective would secure the win against ABG.

Tank shock? That oh so mighty 6" movement. Coupled with AV:10 on the rear means that almost any troop can krak grenade the vehicle to death in a Death of Glory.

I thought the HQ tank could give orders. They have three of their own orders in the IA book.

This is correct, but the Armored Battle Group commander HQ can only issue orders to applicable units from the Armored Battle Group army list =)
Not an issue if you only take units from said list and no allies.

I ally in C:IG units, but am careful to make sure that each detachment has orders applicable to itself. For instance, all of the russes and hellhounds come from the ABG, whereas the CCS and vets/platoon come from the IG. It is actually working really well, although I still haven't finished tweaking my list. Using a ABG/IG combo seems really effective, I'm surprised more people don't pick up ABG allies. A command vanquisher, one or two troop russes and a vulture would add some support to any list. It is also one of the few lists where the "ally tax" is actually the part you want.

As for the posted list:

1. Your CCTs need beast hunter shells. They really are one of the best things in the list. Imagine the look on a Tau player's face when you one-shot his riptides on turn one.

2. The troop tanks seem a bit weak. I personally focus more on the "siege" tank choices in troops, which would mean demolishers/thunderers. LRBTs work better as command/commissar tanks with inernus shells, as these make them much more versatile.

3. Vulture gunships are fun, but it may be difficult to get a squadron of 2 (as you are forced to have max 1 unit of gunships) in the right positions at times. I would probably drop one and pick up something else.

4. Hydras are nice but make poor infantry killers. I really like them for killing Eldar skimmers though.

5. The list does need at least some scoring, either some AF squads or allies.

ABG is fun though. I tend to go for a "right down their throat" style, pushing forward with siege tanks and following up with mechanised elements. Hellhound variants are very useful for plugging gaps and reacting to the enemy.
