DE codex page 91 says a unit must be able to fit in a dedicated transport inorder to take it. But 6ed allows ssquads to take dedicated transports regardless of the squads size. So can DE take these transports now

Codex trumps the BRB. If your codex demands a certain squad size, you follow the codex.

This is especially true since other Codexes don't have this restriction. The Codex was created during 5th edition, and the general rule for being allowed to take transports for oversize squads was still allowed (ie Razorbacks) - that's why it had to be overridden specifically in the Dark Eldar Codex.

Why is it this way? ...couldn't tell you

There is no 6th edition rule that allows a unit to take a dedicated transport that the unit will not fit in. That is solely at the discretion of the rules in the codex whether or not the unit can take a dedicated transport that the unit won't fit in.

Well no, if we're being precise. But there's no restriction either. By standard wording in most Codexes you can take the transport regardless of size as long as the Codex gives you the option for that unit, as in most Codexes the squad size isn't mentioned. That's why it's had to be FAQed.

This has never been a core rulebook rule. It's always been a restriction (or lack thereof) in any given squad entry, in each codex.

It has nothing to do with what edition we're playing.

Necrons, IG, SoB can all take transports regardless of unit size.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Fair enough.

Shows that i need to bone up on a few codexes then.

Orks, Tau (unless new codex allows it), Eldar, DE, Nids can't.

Daemons don't get any.

Not sure about CSM. I don't play them often.
