OK, so I saw Codex Tau Limited Edition appear on the GW website around midnight Friday. Pre-Ordered, super, I'm now one of only 1,000 owners. Checked the website periodically on Saturday until sometime late evening it disappeared from the Pre-Order section totally and was replaced with the Tau Battleforce (Edit : Not Battle Force, One Click Launch Bundle), Great! sold out in 1 day I was lucky.

Today I see that Codex Tau Limited Edition is BACK..... NOW 2,000 copies available..

As if it wasn't bad enough they raised the price to 60 quid for this Codex to gouge more cash from us, they are now screwing us over by making 'Limited Edition' .... well..... LESS Limited.

Thoughts?

Also, e-mailed them to cancel order, we'll see how over complicated this process is.

Listed in WD as limited to 2000 copies.

They either listed it wrong on the site or you were mistaken.

How does the phrase go again? A fool and his money are soon parted.

Yup. You paid £50-£60 for a thing that is all flash and no substance. I'm having trouble sympathising here.

Hmmm I think you have misunderstood the context of the post, I am not looking for sympathy, looking for comment on A) extra price for limited edition compared to before B) Changing the run from 1000 to 2000 thus diminishing the idea of collector editions in comparison to other Codex C) Possible typo on website that required a takedown of the item for a period.

You should have no problem getting your money back. Simply state that you bought the codex on the basis that it was advertised as a limited edition of 1,000, and that is not true, so the contract cannot be completed.

When I saw it, shortly after it went up, it clearly showed "only 2000 copies worldwide". Furthermore, I'm pretty sure it was in a splash graphic art, making a typo somewhat less likely.

Are you certain it was only 1000 copies?

In any event, Games Workshop has terrific customer service. If you call them and cancel your order, I'm sure they'd be happy to help you without you even needing to specify what that reason is. At that point you can simply order a normal codex.

Alternately, keep your order and flip it on ebay. I'm sure at some point after they sell out, someone will want it, and you'd probably make a small profit on it.

edit: Just saw you already emailed them. Let us know how it goes, but out of all the retailers I've ever dealt with, I'd say GWS is probably number one with a bullet for no-hassle refunds, exchanges, and fixes.

yup 2000 copies only. They took the listing down and fixed their mistake.

It's not really a problem.

As for the price, well, it seems sin line with GW's current pricing strategy.

So paying ~90% more for an alternate cover and slip sleeve is fine, but paying ~99% more for the same is not? And going to 2000 copies hardly makes a difference at all.

You were already quite willing to be gouged for the flimsy reason of the product being limited. This really does just feel like buyers remorse.

The whole limited edition codex thing is an actual scam. Not just exaggeration/hyperbole there either. It fits the literal definition of a scam. It's like buying a watch from a guy on a street corner in NYC. Stay away from them.

I agree, it is a scam. They aren't "collector's items", they'll be literally worthless when the next rules edition comes out. Like the old "collector's edition" of the 5th edition 40k rulebook, I saw them pop up on eBay once or twice and they didn't even sell for retail.

Most people only seem to be buying them because they think they can scam people themselves with them on eBay. Like this donkey-cave, made all the funnier by the fact that the codex hasn't sold out yet.

I've seen collectors edition rule books barely cover the postage costs on ebay, once they are no longer current they become pretty much worthless. At least with figures they keep their value (unless they are finecast; games day 2012 and the 25th anniversary figs aren't always hitting retail now)

At least they've mentioned the volume of the limited run, usually they don't.

It certainly still won't make them collectible in any way unless there is something ground-breaking about the codex release, like it's the last one or the one after it is terrible.

The only reason they make sense as a purchase is if you're trying to sell them before they become obsolete.
