Since the weapon uses leadership when fighing say a group of 20 boyz, since they have that mob rule stating the leadership is equal to the number of orks or 7 (whatever is higher). Does this mean the shredder is practically useless on squads greater than 10?

Its not pointless, its just not very effective as their Ld is 10.

Treat them as Ld10.

Note that it's not fearless that makes them Ld10, as Death Company are all Ld8 and thus, are wounded on 5+ rather than on 6+ for being fearless (Ld10)

A little confused here. How or were does it state that "Fearless" increases the Leadership value of the unit by +1.

As for the Op, is the Mob up rule used for leadership/moral tests/checks only? or does it alter the base leadership value of the unit to a certain number.

If the Mob-Up is only used for Moral checks/Leadership tests then you would use the base leadership of the unit, which I believe is 7 meaning that the Neural Shredder would be wounding on 3's. However, if Mob-Up changes the leadership value of the unit from 7 to 10-12 or what not then the Neural Shredder wounds on 6's.

By changes I mean permanently alters the value to be 10-12 and not just for leaderships Tests/checks/moral.

Based on what I have read at this time, I am led to believe that the leadership Value if the Ork Mob would 10 for the porous of this comparison. However, more research is needed.

Mob rule lets you sub the leadership of every model in the unit with the number of models in the unit. It is used for anything that uses leadership

The value is capped at 10, as the characteristics rule states.

I totally agree, Ork leadership should be able to get higher than 10, the subtract anything, then cap it at 11.
30 Boyz lose 15 models, lose combat by 1, LD would be 14, round down to 11, then test for Ld, failing on a double 6 just for being cool.

Fighting crime in a future time!
