I have just finished my copy of The Betrayer and I really enjoyed it. Although that may have something to so with the world eaters being my favourite legion

The only thing-

Spoiler:
I really wish Erebus had died when he fought kharn at the end instead of teleporting away, or whatever he did. Can't stand that guy.

I can't wait to read the next one. Does anyone know if there is a book which follows on from The Betrayer, or is it not out yet?

P.S. wasn't sure if this belonged in here or general discussion so I rolled a dice to decide for me

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Erebus has been established to still be running around as late as the 13th Black Crusade. It's going to be a major retcon if GW decides to kill him off.

Oh, I completely understand why he wasn't killed off, he's a major player in the series. I just couldn't help but want him to be killed.

Death is very relative in 40k they can always bring him back like eliphas.

Like the great storm of the Horus Heresy, the forces of the True Gods will descend upon the Emperor's minions. The stars will tremble at their passage and the mighty armadas of the Warmaster Abaddon will bring annihilation to a hundred worlds. Know this, for these things will come to pass.

i just really liked the contrast between Lorgar here and how he was in the First Heretic.

I cant say i like the whole Cabal and immortals angle that continued here, but thats a wider HH thing.

RIP Argel Tal

I enjoyed Betrayer a lot. I think Forge World should make a diorama of Argel Tal and Kharn fighting together.

I think the latest FW newletter stated they are working on a WE squad which uses rad grenades and stuff - those were the destroyers weren't they?

That would probably be the destroyers. The book mentions something about the toxic sickness of jus being around their weapons or something.

Finished it last night. (forgot time, suddenly, 4 AM).

Loved the book. I really liked the Titan legion, 90 warhounds with ursus claws ftw.

Also, I can't help but think how great the title of this book reflects it. Almost every major character in it betrayed something or someone major.

Lorgar and Erebus were annoying as usual, for a second it's almost as if they would turn into Tzeentch worshippers and start throwing just as planned's at us..

Found it. Forge World newsleter #339

"Will Hayes has designed the Legion MkIV Destroyer Squad; units within the Legiones Astartes that are equipped with, and expert in the use of, otherwise proscribed and forbidden weaponry. Considered dishonourable by some Legions, who eschew them altogether or make little use of them, the Destroyers’ arsenal includes rad-weapons, bio-alchem munitions and the crawling horror of Phosphex. These weapons, which irrevocably taint the ground upon which they are used, are otherwise forbidden by the Emperor’s own edict. The fire-blackened and chem-scalded Destroyers are often shunned and distrusted by their Legion brothers, yet none can deny the potency of their relic-weapons."

I second this, mostly because i am dying for a FW HH Kharn, but i think that would be amazing with dead smurfs at their feet

I think a FW Argel tal might be the most magnificent think ever, even better than the Russ and Lion Duel that they are supposedly releasing in 2015

I agree I imagined someone like Sanguinius killing Argel - Tal. I like how the Traitor Primarchs are becoming Daemon Princes First Fulgrim and now Angron. I hope we see some more of Magnus it was awesome when he was having a conversation with Lorgar I really liked that (Im a bit sad like that).

I'm enjoying the primarchs ascensions as well.

I hoping they shwo the others as well as there is not much fluff arrounding the daemonic versions of many other primarchs.

I'm also loving the increased depth thatthey are putting into ther primarchs now - my fave aspect of Angel Experminatus was how much background fluff they have put into Perturabo now. Can't wait to see whatthey do when he ascends to daemonhood (can't find any images or fluff online about his daemonic form).

How was Lorgar annoying ?

He verbally tore Magnus a new ass and pointed out his hypocricy and bullsh.it

He was not intimidated by Horus and showed how far his view reaches.

He correctly predicted that Sanguinus would not fall and why he would not fall

He put Erebus and by extension Kor Phaeron in their place

He ''saved'' Angron.

Went toe to toe with Guilliman.

The book made me dislike the Ultramarines more. Angron hit it dead on the head with their hypocritical "courage honor" stuff. If he was truly the great leader that smurfs think he was instead of calling Angron childish he would have told he was right in that he was mistreated by the Emperor, but their was still a chance for redemption and for him to prove his worth by killing Lorgar who was just using him.

Like the great storm of the Horus Heresy, the forces of the True Gods will descend upon the Emperor's minions. The stars will tremble at their passage and the mighty armadas of the Warmaster Abaddon will bring annihilation to a hundred worlds. Know this, for these things will come to pass.

I always wondered if Angron could have been a loyalist? I think so, he just needed daddy care, instead of Lorgar care. I mean to me, the Big E should have known that that one, of all his sons, needed a little extra hug now and then to reaffirm.

Angron was doomed from the second the high riders smacked the Butcher's Nails into his skull. Had he remained loyal, he'd have ended up dead from taking on something even he couldn't finish, a drooling vegetable as the Nails destroyed his higher brain functions or Russ would have finished the job as the World Eaters got worse and worse and eventually it was time for termination with extreme prejudice.

Of course, had the Emperor not been a total twit and helped his wayward son out with his "final battle" alongside his gladiator chums, Angron might have taken a bit longer to go irretrievably nuts.

Just finished it myself. Great book!

I was expecting it to be rubbish, I don't think much of most of dembski bowden's work. I thought The First Heretic was average at best, & Helsreach was dismal, but he seems to be getting there.

I loved the characterisation of pretty much everyone.

Argel Tal & Kharn, Bros forever.

Again, he couldn't help without attacking Imperial citizens, and Angron would probably be even more obstinate and insufferable if he had his posse with him.
