Yeah, it was pretty funny, especially as he liked to voice out all the ork's as he played "Ya' stoopid grot, shoot da' grey ones!" "I am shootin' da' grey ones!" "Waaaaagh! *smack!*"

also, from the gallery, albin-ork

It seems that there's at least a precedent towards non-standard Ork skin colours, which is very cool, even if the latest Ork fluff doesn't carry forward the other-coloured Orks of old.

I'll chalk down alternative-colour Orks in my list of potential armies to start/continue.

It's nice to have a plausible and acceptable reason to paint something other than green!

Not 40k, but in Fantasy there are the Black Orcs. I believe they're very, very dark green but appear pretty much black. In 40k the green is essential as it allows them to photosynthesize, but a mutation could result in another skin color, perhaps as an adaptation to a sun with a different wavelength of light. They'd probably have trouble with other orks, though, what with Green Iz Best and all.

Just check how GW paint their own Black Orcs. They are just darker green, not especially close to black.

Actually there used to be Red, and Grey orks (loong time ago, rogue to second pretty much). Back when they could go chaos and the like!

Source, or it never happened.

Paint them as you like though. Nothing stopping you making your own fluff.

While I need to find my older books, Codex Daemonhunters: Page 50, and 51 shows Nurgle Worshipping Orks, with various mutations, marks to Nurgle, horns like plaguebearers and the like. Should I find some older Khorne Orks, I'll be sure to tell you where.

Edit:
http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Space_Ork_%28Freebooterz%29_-_Collectors_Guide Shows some older models, like the Stormboy of Khorne.

There were Khorne-worshipping Stormboyz in Ere We Go and Freebooterz, but I have no memory of them being non-green. Even your own example doesn't mention different colours...

Yeah I know, I'd have to find actual fluff rather then just models cause all metal models are grey.

Though considering the mutations one could believe they could change color to their lord, hrm. I'll have to check later then.

I'll go have a look through Freebooterz and Ere We Go. I should clarify, by the way, that I am also not talking about individual chaos mutations, but large scale groups being different colours. One of the random mutations in Slaves to Darkness was simply to have your skin change colour, and Orcs could get mutations if you had them in your Chaos warband.

True enough I suppose. I might've been thinking of individuals rather then armies, been a long time since I ran through the old books. (Considering the quality I have them in, it's lucky at all they're still readable)

you can paint them however you want, noone can say anything (though fluff players might wig out on it)

However probably the only fluff-wise alternative is red skin. Reason being: theyre Chaos Orks. I keep hearing theres actually rules for them but i can never find it.

Otherwise you'd just be saying they paint their whole body in warpaint.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
