A friend and I recently brought out the old SST stuff for a "throwaway" one-off game last Saturday. We played at 1,250 points, and while we realized later that the Arachnid list was incorrect (2 tankers at less than 2,000) it was a rather fun game. I played as the Mobile Infantry while my friend (Doomsday B here on Dakka) played as the Bug Menace.

I also apologize for the unpainted glory of the MI models, hunting down the metal Light Armor infantry was a nightmare and they've sort of been pushed to the side and forgotten.

Opening Deployment

While there's only 30 Arachnid Warriors on the field, the Bughole and tunneling markers immediately frighten me.

Our objective was for the MI player to have more models in the 2' by 2' square on the bottom left at the end of the game to win.

The Mobile Infantry Line. "Kill 'em All!"

The Arachnid opening deployment "The Only Good Bug Is A Dead Bug!"

SICON's Top Agents survey the battlefield

The Warrior bugs scuttle outwards, commencing the assault

The Mobile Infantry waste no time blowing up the enemy bughole to bits

An MI view of the Arachnid advance (Note the Hopper Bugs hiding behind the trees)

The Mobile Infantry waste no time blasting a few bugs.

Nothing more beautiful than an Arachnid "Kill-Pile"

Another survey of the battlefield

The tunneling markers inch increasingly close to the MI line

The Arachnid Warriors also begin to close in

The Warrior Bugs charge in, promising carnage to the hapless MI infantry

"TAAAANKER!"(s)

The brave MI stare the beast down

"This'll make great footage for prospective recruits!"

The Hopper bugs swoop in. Things are not looking good for the MI

An aside. Arachnid Warriors are hit on a 5+, and the rightmost unit of MI had around 18 shots. Confident in probability, I expected to see at least 4-5 dead warriors. The Dice Gods had other ideas

Now you see them...

Now they're dead...

Sadly, this picture doesn't do the situation credit. The MI launch a Pee Wee atomic, taking out a few Warrior bugs, a Tanker, and the luckless MI Lieutenant

"Mmm... love the smell of dead bug"

The last of the MI forces hole up in the bunker, while the Tanker smashes against it.

The bunker reduced to slag, the Lt dead and the SICON agent burnt by Tanker Acid, an unknown Corporal takes a final stand against the Tanker.

"Bug Souffle"

And the resulting MI casualty pile (nowhere near as pretty =/)

Overall, a pretty fun game, with an interesting result (We decided to naturally call this game a draw) We're looking forward to posting larger games with our Marauder, Power Suit and Exosuit forces, and the Plasma Bug and Brain bugs make a deadly appearance...

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I've never played the game but I love the movie and the game looks really fun. Is it still in production?

Reading this made me want to dust off my old “Starship Troopers: Prepare for Battle” board game from Avalon Hill. Fun little report. I hope you make some more.

Oh man, don't bring up old wounds...

You can grab a rulebook for cheap off ebay, the odd models are still easy to find, some are even cheap, and the core game is available for MSRP on ebay, buy a few. But the Light Armor Mobile Infantry (ie the guys from the movie) go for crazy money on ebay.

Brookhurst Hobbies still has tons of copies of the basic game for sale at half off.

Looking for the Empire spearmen from the Warhammer sixth edition box set (empire vs orcs) Must be unpainted and in good condition. Also looking for MIB Empire State Troops boxes.

Looking for Battle for Macragge and Black Reach Tactical squads, unpainted and unassembled.

SST is a great game.

If you're looking for very close Light Armor Mobile Infantry (LAMI), EM4's Troopers are a good choice. They're cheap and look very similar and have a lot of options.
