Cool product, but ridiculous shipping makes it a non-starter for me.

Yeah, you have to pledge 200$ to get a better deal on shipping, but the upside is you ought to have a pretty complete board after that.

Base floor panel is 11x17"? What would that be used for? Wouldn't 1' square sections be a better plan? They look good though, so I'll be watching.

I hear the concerns about the shipping but my hands are tied on this one

I sent a test package to Australia 2 weeks ago and It cost 56 dollars for about 20 items. I was hoping to give every one free shipping but the new rates made it a net loss for me.

BUT *spoilers* if we hit the 42K mark I am cutting the shipping for international donors in half, that is one of the stretch goals. At that point I should have enough US backers to offset the cost

so pass the word

Also there will be a later option where you can chose how i cut the 11 X 17 sheet so you could get the size you want

Free shipping in the US but $50.00 for international is a no no from me I'm afraid.

I'm assuming 11'' X 17'' is the maximum size of the lazOr bed?

and really, it's not that bad, I use 9'' by 12'' plates for my table, so tabloid sized would be helpful against those that insist on finding ways to premeasure everything.

This seems, really, really good for people in the US. Almost too good to be true if I'm understanding the options right. Essentially I can get 36" of laser detailed wall for $10 with free shipping? Double that of undetailed wall? Even counting the pillars you would want for that amount of wall, its still crazy good.

The modularity is fabulous, and the whole thing looks good. Perhaps later you can add the "gothic" elements some of us crave, like walls with an arched profile.

At first I liked the look of everything till I realized the buildings were shipping containters. But regardless of that I hope you do well.

Also, the $10 option doesn't seem priced correctly. It should probably be around $13 based on the other levels.

$10 for 1 = $10 per option
$50 for 4 = $12.50 per option
$100 for 9 = $11.11 per option
$200 for 19 = $10.53 per option
$400 for 39 = $10.26 per option

The 10 dollar level is a half option slot, so you could get a shipping container with no details on it or a set of wall with no details. I wanted to give something for low level pledges and that's the lowest I could go and still afford my laser time/shipping... there is going to be a pretty nifty set of 1X1X1 and 1X1X2 inch containers for scatter terrain that can also be used for the half option.

Also there will be a set of buildings coming up in the next 2 weeks that are stand alone with more rounded edges, they will look like the V2 shipping container.

That is correct, on the 36" of wall for about 10 bucks or 72" with no details (doors/windows/the x frame/ and the notches in the supports will be cut into the blanks). I am making a very tight profit here, main goal is to rise the funds needed to pay the laser, secure a second laser, pay for supplies and my salary for the next 3-5 months so I can launch the company. Profits will come later.... I hope =)

Well, good luck, I made a pledge and I've pretty much stayed out of Kickstarter land until now. : ) I'd really like to see a pillar option that is a little more like a buttress and arches. Also, wall sections with fewer slots (so you don't need as many pillars) would be cool as well.

I am pretty sure that kickstarter forces its creators to provide free shipping to the US, correct?

Nice product anyway, shall have a proper look after work!

there are a few options coming down the pike, a 5 inch wall with 3 pilar slots or 2 slots for a long wall. also a 6" 7" 8" inch versions

the buttress and arch ideas are actually on the pipe line for the end of this year, that's when i'm hoping to release fantasy/steam punk/modern version for the grid system. trust me we could have waited and launched a kickstarter with everything but peoples head (and mine) would have exploded with the 30+ skins we have planed just for the 3" wall. not to mention 20+ floors etc etc. ohh and all of them can be used with each other.

Not to mention the battle damaged walls that can be slid into the set as walls get blown out =). that's coming around the 15th

No, all KS does is give project creators to set two rates

one for the USA (convention says this is free, but it doesn't have to be)

and one for all of the rest of the world (which means companies have to plan for a huge number of expensive Australian backers, just in case)

Sweet! I hope there are some good mix and match options. Also, it occurs to me that the one thing I'd really want is a full length doorway, with or without door. The hatch is nice, but not what I would want to end every corridor with. Also, I have a total noob lasercut question - is the detail just burned on or is it cut in? I ask only for painting purposes - in other words if one is going to paint it should one only get blanks?

there are some door frames options that plug into the columns so you can do any where between 1" till 5" slide up doors, problem we have not figure out is how to do slide doors on buildings so they don't just fall off with out the frame. its hard to explain but once I get the pictures up next week I can go into details.

They paint really well, as long as you thin your paints and/or use an airbrush, here is a picture of an early prototype painted by a friend of mine.

So is shipping $6 for US backers? I know shipping is a lot, but particularly for Canada, I know that shipping is rarely going to be as much more than it costs for US backers as is charged. If shipping is 'free' for US backers, then whatever the base price is should cover US shipping. Whatever international shipping is should estimate the difference. Doesn't feel like that's done often.

But I'll keep my eyes on this for when the shipping prices drop. As I mentioned, I do like the product.

You know what, thats not fair, I'll add it to the FAQ right now wile I'm sleep deprived

FREE SHIPPING TO CANADA ,

Sadly would have done that before but we get 2 choices for shipping settings, US or World wide, I wish there was a bit more control so I can designate areas

you gave us Mike Myers, that's the least I can do

yep, better lock it in before my wife finds up. if enough people donate I can tell her "look honey to many people already did it, can't take it back now" =)

seriously I already made the change on the FAQ, I can't make changes to the levels after it launches and there was no way to split international shipping by country.

I'll have to figure how to do it by the end of the kickstarter, looks like I will issue a refund of the shipping cost after payment. unless I can find a more efficient way to do it.

I'll fire some emails this week at the Kickstarter staff and I should be able to give you guys up north a sure answer of how this will happen.

but yes Free shipping to Canada as of Yesterday to every one Delta and above (95+ level), the extra 2-4 dollars won't kill me

Might want to be careful about offering free shipping to Canada, now that the postal costs from USPS have gone up through the roof for international shipping.

Check out the costs for sending stuff, as you might be hit with some pretty huge bills otherwise.

Not wanting to stop Canadians from pledging, but it's something you need to be aware of. Fully check this out otherwise you're liable to be losing money on this rather than making any.

That is pretty sweet! The pillar set would look good in sci fi or fantasy I think.

Well that is disappointing. I wish you well and hope you get a European distributor otherwise I won't see these on my table with free shipping in the US and Canada but $50.00 if I want something.

yes, I am making everything with the same frame stats, so you can mix and match, only the items in the stand alone section don't line up with the locator pins

I should have fantasy walls burned by tomorrow afternoon

I like that it has a nice nod to depictions of the original Labyrinth in ancient Crete that often feature similar patterns. Good work!
