Angelo Lombardi, the itinerant gamer and COO of La Quinta, returns to the third chair to talk about every gamers dream: to design a game. What dreams have we thought of building? And have we ever considered trying to make them real.
Later the three dive into a detailed review of Dungeons and Dragons: Dungeon Command. Is there a meaty game packed in the box with all those pre-painted miniatures?
All that and our other not-too-horrible segments including:
- Total Fan Girl
- Do You Ever Notice
- News
- & More
Please let us know what you thought of the show!

nice review gentlemen, enjoyable show as always.
I want to pick up two Dungeon Command boxes for my stepdaughter and I to play. She's fifteen and loves D&D type stuff.
I don't know which ones to begin with; I tried the first two at Gencon and they were ok.
I'm thinking Undead vs. Orcs, or Undead vs. Cormyr perhaps? It seems the healing abilities of both orcs or Cormry would balance nicely against the Undead's ability to gain power as they slay opponents.
Any feedack appreciated folks. Thanks.

I just started listening to the new episode this morning. So good to have Angelo back. His enthusiasm is truly infectious.
But, as I didn't get the opportunity to sooner...I wanted to touch on Craig's segment from the end of the previous episode and his feelings of "Am I gamer?"
I can relate to this right now. We moved from Ohio to Oregon in mid-November of last year. My wife and I quickly found a game store nearby (Off the Charts Games in Gresham, OR) that hosts game nights on Wed and Fri evenings. We've been going twice a week almost consistently since then. For the most part it's been a lot of fun. The most rewarding aspect is we immediately began making friends with the other players as well as the owners.
But, recently I've been less than enthused to go. See, the store is a boardgame store and they don't sell any minis games. I'm primarily a minis gamer and I haven't played a minis game (outside a few games of Wings of Glory) since moving here. I'm getting antsy. I just haven't been able to line my schedule up with any of the minis events.
I walked into the store for game night last week and one table was playing Battlestar Galactica and the other was playing Small World (we were late, so games had already started) and I would have been more than content to just turn around an leave, if not for my wife who wanted to stay.
I like boardgames. Not all. Not even most. But there's a lot I do like. But, I love my miniatures games. But what I learned, and what connected with me from Craig's segment is that being a gamer doesn't mean you love all games, or even love to game all the time. It's great to know what you like and focus your time and energy there. And it's good to break out of your comfort zone from time to time and try something new.
But, even the most die-hard of games needs a break now and then.

Good stuff. Angelo is always excellent value as a guest.
A couple of thoughts on this weeks podcast: Firstly I do get an insane temptation to glance at the last page in the book/chapter when I am reading a paper book, but this is totally absent with E-books. I have no idea why- perhaps it occurs when I check how far through the book I am.
Secondly I've had a property development card game in my head for the last ten years. It will either be awesome or awful if I ever get round to making it.

i like the episode. I loved the design discussion segment. One note, it is tough to hear the segments that were recorded involving a phone. Whether it’s the call-in segment, or the phone interview with TFG, those segments ended up fading into the background and I realized they passed without me really listening. Great show, keep it up!

Thanks for the kind words as usual, guys! It's always fun for us to have Angelo on, too. And we DID get a chance to play his pirate game when he visited last week and . . . I think he's REALLY got something fun on his hands.
Oh, and Pirate Meeples . . . so what can be wrong with that?
As for wanting to see the end of a book/story, don't get me wrong, I WANT to as well, and I UNDERSTAND wanting to, but I just got SO much more out of the end of a book when it ISN'T spoiled, that I don't. But on the subject of re-reading . . . most of the books that made the cut to be put into the Pub's bookshelves are shredded from being re-read so often. I TOTALLY understand the joy of revisiting a favorite book even though you know how it's going to end . . . so I guess I really can see it both ways.
Oh, and Yak . . . how disappointed was I when I clicked on your link and there weren't any pictures of my Dreadnaught Arena! :(
Ah, the memories
Thanks again, guys!

I don't know if Angelo reads this thread, but if he's ever in Paso Robles, home of the #1 La Quinta, I'd love to get a game in with him and show him the area.
