So I want to start fielding the new riptides but I'm not keen on the $85 price TAG, so I've been looking for units to proxy. Originally I was looking at gundam models, but now I'm thinking about using TAG's from infinity. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out how tall the TAG's are compared to a riptide. Anyone know?

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.

War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

TAG models are lovely, but they are also very tiny. They're approximately Dreadnought sized... so wayyy too small for Riptides. The closest I could think of are maybe Colossals from Warmachine, or the small Dreamforge Leviathan.

Zealot Miniatures does a great Riptide sized figure.

TAGs are way too small.

Collossals would be too big. They go on 120mm bases.

And the Dreadforge Leviathan is also WAY too big. Its tall as a Forge World Warhound.

I believe he's referring to the 15mm scale version. Alas, the resin model sold out a long time ago IIRC and the plastic one isn't looking like it will be around for another couple of months. It would be a fairly decent stand-in though.

I know most of the TAG's are way to small, but they do vary in size:

I was hoping the bigger ones might be big enough. like the Jotun or the O-Yoroi.

If not, I guess there's always gundam

Ahh 2 different scales. That is still going to be too big.

I've seen a 15mm Leviathan and I think it actually is not that much bigger than a Riptide-- IIRC it was a suitable proxy for a Dreadknight, and a Riptide is I believe bigger than a Dreadknight (though I haven't assembled mine yet).

Actually going by rough "model size guessing" they're going to be very similar in size. The Riptide looks like it will clock in at about 6.5" give or take. My math is failing me at the moment but the 28mm Crusader is 9.5" tall at its most upright (slightly shorter than a Warhound, not counting stacks), so it would stand to reason that the 15mm version would be in the same range as a Riptide. The existing resin versions are actually a bit taller than is predicted for the plastics due to manufacturing requirements at the time. That's still speculation of course as nobody's seen them.

A larger problem is that the look of the leviathan is completely wrong for a Tau army; the Teutonic styling shares much more with an Imperial look than a Tau one. However, if you wanted to run an allied "Adeptus Mechanicus" detachment using Tau rules, that'd be a pretty good stand-in.

No it's not mine, I found the photo on the forum. If they were mine I'd know if any of the tags are tall enough
